Will Hollywood make this movie?
It is not “based on a true story.”
It is a story of parents and teachers in Red Hook, Brooklyn, who joined together to fight off the invasion of a billionaire-owned charter school.
It is an inspiring story.
The powerless against the powerful.
The people who love the school standing up to those who see it as real estate.
Read and see what happened.
It is heartening to see the beginnings of resistance to edukational rheeform.
“Rheeform” – I think you’ve found the perfect substitute word for “reform”! Hope you don’t mind if I steal it.
I can not claim that one as my own, but it is fitting. Changing the c in education to a k adds to the irony.
SEE! Parents and teachers can work together and make a REAL difference.
Love to see them fighting the good fight! It is daunting to think of all the fighting that must be done in addition to continuing the work of a good school. Here in Georgia, we are very concerned that the charter school amendment on the November ballot will open the doors wide for this privateering takeover. It is so slimy, so underhanded and so not for the sake of children.
So what was their victory? A three year continued invasion as opposed to a five year? The Board lied to them before; they will lie to them again. I hope they can hold out against money and power both of which the district is probably already stripping from them. A few administrative changes should help sink them and I’m sure VAM can get rid of some of those pesky activist teachers. We need to be watching their story develop.
Of all the schools they had to invade. This article will break your heart.

We need a movie. Surely there are some straight-thinking filmmakers out there who could put together a high quality documentary exposing the lies and motives behind reform. Just think how edgy that would be. Don’t filmmakers like to be edgy? (mom of a film student)
