A science teacher read the post about the textbooks used in some of Louisiana’s voucher schools. As we know, Governor Jindal is eager to pay public money to send children in Louisiana to religious schools that teach creationism as fact. So is Republican candidate Mitt Romney, who looks to Jindal as an education expert and who praises vouchers for religious schools. The teacher writes:
Hopeful Monster Theory!!!!! Since when is there any such thing outside of the creationists imagination. The Flying Spaghetti Monster perhaps but that was created to point of the fallacious arguments made by Intelligent Design.
Romney giving Jiindal the time of day for any education position is beyond ridiculous. This is like giving the president of Exxon the position of EPA director.
We do have a first amendment that needs to be respected. The last thing we need is the STATE dictating what a private school can or should teach.
But once that schools accepts public money then all bets are off on that. The separation of church and state works both ways. If these schools want to hew so closely to their religious faith that they ignore the very generously worded National Science Foundation Science Education standards then they should follow their conscience and NOT accept any public monies.
Hear you loud and clear! Shout it out!
Um, the Administrator of EPA works for BritPet, not Exxon.
Lisa P. Jackson is Administrator of EPA. She works for BritPet????? I checked her history and found no such reference. Correct me if I’m wrong.
JDM: After ruminating about it, I see your point, I think. She acted as if she were woriking for BP during the oil spill because she allowed BP to use that dispersant for quite a while. But she never actually worked for BP so far as I can determine.
@MOMwithaBrain: The first amendment applies to teacher unions which you want to muzzle. You did say that the teacher unions should not challenge people like Christie or other GOP governors, they should just shut up. You have said that the public school teachers and their unions are full of Marxists. Total nonsense. Creationism and Intelligent Design are not science they are superstitious garbage. They can be taught in private religious schools NOT receiving public money, not much we can do about that travesty. Teaching creationism would be much like teaching astrology in astronomy class or alchemy in chemistry class, an absolute intellectual obscenity.
Thank you, Joe.
What sources do you have for Mitt Romney’s involvement with/ feelings about Jindal?
This is a scary thought. If Bobby (aka I named myself after Bobby Brady from the Brady Bunch) doesn’t make the VP cut and Mitt wins, what if Mitt appoints him Secretary of Education?
Has crossed my mind! All I can say is OMG, help us!
Mitt is planning to get rid of the Dept of Education, and some other human service departments. He said this at a recent fundraiser. Of course he will need to appoint managers to close these out, just like at Bain.
Can anyone cite any of these claims?
That’s why Jindal will go to NSF, not DOE.
Jindal is a master at closing things out. He just removes you from the position you held if you disagree or he will manipulate the privatization of services and departments.
