Years ago, when New York’s Governor Nelson Rockefeller commissions new government buildings in Albany, the state Capitol, critics remarked that he had an “edifice complex.”
If ever there was a President with an “edifice complex,” it’s Donald J. Trump. He is determined to make changes to Washington, D.C., that will be his legacy forever.
First, he announced that he intended to build a massive ballroom for Presidential events and promised that it would not disturb the existing building. That ballroom would be almost double the size of the White House. Due to the immensity of the ballroom, Trump’s current architect proposes to add a new floor to the West Wing for the sake of symmetry.
Then, he tore down the East Wing of the White House without bothering to obtain the legally required architectural reviews. Before anyone could object, the East Wing was demolished, gone. After it didn’t exist, he solved the problem of getting approval from two federal commissions by firing their members and replacing them with loyalists.
Now, he wants a massive triumphal arch to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary. One version of his plan shows an arch gilded in gold. The land is on the Virginia side of the Potomac River and is controlled by the National Parks Service, whose leaders are selected by Trump. .
The Washington Post reported:
The White House stands about 70 feet tall. The Lincoln Memorial, roughly 100 feet. The triumphal arch President Donald Trump wants to build would eclipse both if he gets his wish.
Trump has grown attached to the idea of a 250-foot-tall structure overlooking the Potomac River, according to two people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe his comments, a scale that has alarmed some architectural experts who initially supported the idea of an arch but expected a far smaller one.
The planned Independence Arch is intended to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. Built to Trump’s specifications, it would transform a small plot of land between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery into a dominant new monument, reshaping the relationship between the two memorials and obstructing pedestrians’ views.
The Trump Arch would be taller than the White House, taller than the Lincoln Memorial, taller than the Arc de Triomphe in Paris (which is only 164′ tall).
The gold in the Oval Office may be stripped away, but the changes to the White House and the landscape of our Capitol may last forever, a reminder of an egotist who knew no bounds.

He’s got a problem if he thinks it will be complete by the 4th. Because of the vast height there will be structure pilings deep in the ground to support the weight. With it being so close to the river, there is a risk of it sinking before it is finished.
What does it say about a man who acts like a 5 year old who wants everything to have his name on it? What will be the next shinny thing for him to whine about?

I suppose Congress won’t stop him until he announces his plan to tear down the U.S. Capitol.

He is also closing the Kennedy Center for “renovations,” which may very well be another scheme for Trump to funnel more public money into his pockets and those of his co-conspirators.

The Kennedy Center has already gone through renovations during term 1. He’s just mad that everyone is canceling their performances and no one is buying tickets (because his name is on the building).

Really, Diane! And it truly is a nightmare — It’s Bonwit Teller all over again but on a HUGE scale! So I just can’t let this go and I have some questions:
1. If he tears down buildings and sells the properties, does he get to personally profit from those sales by being the real estate agent of record?
2. If he gets away with tearing down all the “45 federal buildings overseen by the General Services Administration (GSA)” “targeted for “accelerated” disposal”, then can’t he do the same thing to all the buildings that house departments that he wants to completely eliminate, like where the Department of Education is located –effectively as an end run around having to get Congressional permission to shut down departments that he doesn’t want?

He intends to tear down the historic Social Security building, whose walls contain many classic Depression-era murals.

Yes, exactly. That’s the Wilbur J. Cohen Federal Building, which I found on this list of buildings slated for “accelerated disposition,” because “GSA is focused on rightsizing the federal real estate portfolio” (sounds like more mendacity and scares the hell out of me!): https://www.gsa.gov/real-estate/real-property-disposition/assets-identified-for-accelerated-disposition

As with Bonwits, he sees no value in those wonderful murals. He recently described himself as “a very aesthetic person” but that’s a sick joke for people who actually have good taste. He only cares about gold (and marble) in order to show off how opulent his lifestyle is, which screams to the public, “I’m rich and you’re not!” For most normal people, he’s way too tacky to be considered tasteful, so as the Liz Cheney// Adam Kinzinger Against Trump page says, the White House now looks like it came from the “Saddam Hussein Home Collection”. I mean think about it: He and a lot of his fellow billionaires really hate having to contribute to payroll taxes every month, so if he wants to stop paying that by eliminating Social Security altogether, then tearing down the building would be a quick and easy way to do it. “Oops! There’s no building now so no one works there and they won’t be distributing monthly checks anymore…”
I’m very worried because I’m already facing the prospect of becoming homeless again and people like me would literally end up on the street in the ice and snow and below zero temps, so we’ll probably die if we stop getting our measly $1200 per month checks. (This is my personal nightmare and I feel powerless to stop it!)

A lot of historians think that it was Hitler who had the Reichstag bombed, which was still in tatters when I saw it in the early 70s because he never had it rebuilt. (There’s no need for representative voting when you have a dictator.)
Meanwhile, Hitler and Albert Speer, his favorite architect (who, ironically, he made Minister of Armaments), spent many years planning together and building a lot of stuff, virtually up to the very end –most of which was ultimately destroyed by the Allies… (Think the malignant narcissist knows anything about all this?)

He doesn’t like the current Concourse so he’s planning to build a new Concourse and naming that after himself. Considering he’s got an entire motorcade that can go directly to Air Force 1 on the tarmac and he never has to use the Concourse, this is another, “Just Because I Want to, Can, No One Will Stop Me and I Don’t Have to Pay for It Myself” (or JBIWTCNOWSMAIDHTPFIM as Jon Awbrey might say.)

TRUMP IS GUILTY OF SEDITIOUS CONSPIRACY
DONALD TRUMP IS GUILTY OF SEDITIOUS CONSPIRACY for declaring that — in violation of Article I, Section 4, Clause 1 of our Constitution — “We should take over voting…the Republicans should nationalize the voting.”
Article I, Section 4, Clause 1 of our Constitution gives states the right and the authority to control elections, so Trump is calling for THE DELIBERATE VIOLATION OF OUR CONSTITUTION.
Seditious Conspiracy requires more than one person to call for violation of the Constitution and Attorney General Pam Bondi sent a letter to Minnesota government officials stating that “We will get the ICE officers out of Minneapolis if you give us control of your voter lists” — in other words: “We want control of your elections”, which is the unconstitutional action that Bondi’s boss, Trump, is calling for.
And there are more Trump officials who are part of the Seditious Conspiracy: Tulsi Gabbard, United States Director of National Intelligence participated in a raid on the State of Georgia’s election offices in which Georgia’s election documents were seized that can give Trump and his minions control over Georgia elections in violation of our Constitution. There are likely other members of the Trump Administration, as well as Republican members of Congress, who are part of the conspiracy.
Trump’s words and his Administration’s actions calling for violation of Article I, Section 4, Clause 1 of our Constitution is not only part of a Seditious Conspiracy, they are also a seriously impeachable violation of Trump’s Oath of Office in which he swore to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
(Copy and share this with your representatives in Congress.)

The next president needs to announce that Trump’s gaudy, tasteless ballroom will be torn down and the East Wing rebuilt as it was. And restore the Rose Garden to its pre-Melanoma glory.

Yes!!! Restore the Jacqueline Kennedy Rose Garden.
I hate to imagine what he will do to the Kennedy center.
