DeSantis has prided himself on being a leader of the War on Woke. He passed a bill to ban any mention of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), which was known as the “Don’t Say Gay” law.
In line with his principle of refusing to recognize those who are not straight white men, he issued a proclamation today in honor of the 49 victims of the Pulse nightclub, but failed to mention that most were LGBT or Hispanic or both. The Pulse was a gay nightclub that welcomed everyone.
Gov. Ron DeSantis’ annual statement on the Pulse shooting anniversary released Thursday makes no mention of the LGBTQ and Hispanic communities — the two groups most devastated by the massacre that left 49 dead.
DeSantis mentioned those communities last year and in other previous statements recognizing the shooting on June 12, 2016. Those anniversary statements called it a “a horrific act of terrorism against the LGBTQ and Hispanic communities.” In his first year in office, however, the two-term governor faced blowback when an initial statement also failed to note who was most impacted by the shooting.
The deletion this year seems in line with efforts by both the DeSantis and Trump administrations to purge what it calls “diversity, equity and inclusion” from the government, which has included similar deletions that reference sexual orientation and race from the National Park Service website and others.
“Gov. DeSantis’ erasure of the LGBTQ+ and Latino communities today may say a lot about what kind of person he is, but it doesn’t change the fact that those were the communities most directly impacted at Pulse,” said Brandon Wolf, a Pulse survivor from Orlando who serves as spokesman for the Human Rights Campaign.

From all I can tell, this attack was carried out because of the vulnerability of the Pulse. There seems to be some doubt about his hostility to the gay and Latino crowd grnerally

I was interrupted. I meant to go on. Whether the gunman actually targeted the nightclub or not, erasing their identity seems to dovetail nicely with the need for DeSantis to delete certain ones from history. Look for conservatives to excuse the deletion based on trying to tell the truth, laughable at best. Wait also for the deletion of Mathew Shepard

People like DeSantis and Trump that target certain groups as “undesirable” may encourage violence those people, though they would both deny any involvement. We’ve seen an increase in anti-semitism and anti-immigrant behavior since Trump took office.

California Sen. Alex Padilla was detained and handcuffed during an altercation at Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s press conference in Los Angeles on Thursday.
Video provided by Padilla’s office shows the senator approaching the lectern as Noem was touting federal law enforcement’s immigration crackdown efforts in Los Angeles. He was stopped and shoved back by multiple men.
“I’m Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the secretary,” he said. He tried to speak further as he was forcibly removed into an adjoining room, where he yelled “Hands off!”
The video shows Padilla being forced to the ground and his arms handcuffed behind his back. He has since been released and is in a holding room. The spokesperson said the senator was told he could speak to Noem after the event.

Outrage of the day: House Republicans vote to cut 8.3 billion in foreign aid, including essential funding for AIDS clinics in nondeveloped countries that have saved and would continue saving a lot of lives, and 1.1 billion for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which is often the only source of tornado, hurricane, and fire warning systems, boil water advisories, and other essential information in rural areas of the United States.
It does not matter to these people, clearly, how many people they kill. Disgusting. And how many of these vile people, mistakenly referred to as “Representatives,” call themselves Christians? Disgusting. This is what evil looks like, folks. Evil.

This is a codification of cuts already made by dodgy Doge.
So, people have already been dying because of this. There is blood on the hands of these Representatives of Themselves and Themselves Only.

But of course, “Outrage of the Day” is a misnomer. There are so many outrages every day. This administration is a clown car full of drunks plowing through pedestrians. Every day.
