Trump has used his presidency to attack universities, schools, media organizations, corporations, foreign students, and everyone else he sees as his enemy. He has used Elon Musk to close down agencies–like USAID–and Departments–like Education. He has taken personal control of the Kennedy Center and intends to remove exhibits he doesn’t like from the Smithsonian. He has directed the Department of Justice to investigate his critics and enemies. He has blighted whatever he chose. The list of his attacks on democracy is long.
A new poll reported by Axios shows that most Americans (52%) think he is a “dangerous dictator whose power should be limited before he destroys American democracy.” He retains the support of a majority of Republicans and whites, who believe he needs more time to “make America great again.”

DUH!!! Fascit Trump told the citizens of this country exactly what he would do. The gullible did not believe him. The Evangelicals believe he is God sent. Fools. Now some people is should be the King or at least President for life. What does it take to wake this numbskulls up and smell the S### that Trump is doing to this country. Probably just like it happen with Hitler — when it is far too late.

Thomas Jefferson told us what it takes in times like these.
Over two centuries ago, in 1787, Thomas Jefferson, America’s third president and principal author of the Declaration of Independence, wrote: “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.”
So, when sill the shooting start?

Why do polls generally show opposition to Trumpism and votes continue to roll in for republicans ?The only reason I can come up with sounds like a conspiracy theory, so I will refrain from commenting.

Yet, much of corporate America is still sucking up to him, or at least cowering.
Ah, capitalism at its worst.
Pick a corporate villain…there are so many. The outright evil…the liars….the sneaky corporations. There are so many categories, so many possible nominees for the worst.
I think Charmin should get the trophy for being the most symbolic corporate toady. Yeah, Charmin with those horrible, butt wiping bears that make me want to kick in my TV set. Charmin’s on the list as a trump donor. Makes sense since he’s full of crap.
What a nation!
The news reports our government cutting off aid to the poorest people around the world. Then I’m watching idiotic TV ads about getting the softest toilet paper to wipe millions of American asses.
This whole disaster called 2025 is scary stupid.
And I got a bad, bad feeling that the U.S. of A. has a dose of really bad karma headed our way.
Sure hope I’m wrong. Especially for the children. What the hell kind of world are we leaving them?

Anyone is need of some inspiration should watch Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker’s uplifting speech about the “do-nothing” Democrats. He calls out status quo Democrats and urges the party to fight back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMndfvxVeRo

Pritzker captured my heart when the previous (GOP billionaire) governor called for defunding several long-standing Early Childhood Education (ECE) programs in the state for at-risk young children, including the program that his own wife was in charge of, and Pritzker was the angel who swooped in and donated his own personal money to save her program –which is still alive today because of him. Other programs were shut down, so it was no wonder that Pritzker beat that prior horrible, heartless governor in the election that followed. Pritzker is an example of how billionaires don’t HAVE to be self-centered, ruthless, uncaring penny pinchers when it comes to supporting government funded programs for the needy.

Pritzker is impressive. I wish he would lose 50 pounds. The Republicans will be merciless.

It’s a shame that we have to be concerned about puerile playground bullying, but that is our reality today. I think though that anyone who is sick of that, has outgrown such juvenile behaviors and doesn’t engage in snide name calling etc. themselves should be mature enough to appreciate that his moral compass, intelligence and ability to articulate concerns that so many of us now share matter a whole lot more than his looks.

I got an email from a Malaysian friend who is worried about friends of hers who live in the U.S. on green cards. They went back to Malaysia and she’s worried about what will happen to them when the return to the U.S.
It makes me sick to think that the U.S. is now alone and a pariah to the rest of the world and that there are still idiots who support the Orange Maniac.
A friend of mine who lives in Canada just sent this to me. It is a powerful song that has been reworded to fit the Trump tariffs.
We Will Survive
A parody song of I will Survive written about the current Tariff threats to Canada by Donald Trump

“Make America great again” is a pathetic plea to return to a “lost” America from a mythical past. It is also a yearning for something that never existed.
You can’t go back and you can’t stand still. Life moves forward only, constantly changing. This is why most conservatism is idiotic. It seeks to freeze the world in a state someone thinks were better days. They weren’t, and even if they were, there is no reverse gear in life. You cannot recreate the past precisely because it is past. It ain’t coming back, nor should it.
I’m 73. I remember my past. I remember when the only black people I saw were janitors and other laborers. Wanna live in that world again? Women had to conform to “norms” that kept them in chains. If their husbands beat them, calling the police was a waste of time. Sound like “the good old days”?
This, Trump believes, would be paradise. In fact, it would be Hell.

Jrstheta, a wise comment indeed. Lately Trump has said that America was great from 1890 to 1913, before the income tax. Before blacks had any rights and were subservient; before women had the vote. A time when Robber Barons lived in splendor, and the bottom half barely lived. I used to think he wanted to roll back the past 75 years. Now, I think he wants to roll back the 20th century.

I learned that lesson back in college, from a very wise theatre professor.
I’ve found that it explains a LOT, and can save a lot of time spent on chasing things that can’t, and don’t, exist.
It’s the most important lesson I learned in life.

DOGE has come to destroy, or maim, the Peace Corps. I am a former Peace Corps volunteer who taught school for two years in the Malaysian state of Sarawak, on the island of Borneo. Served from 1967-68. Currently there are Peace Corps volunteers in over 60 countries.
This notice was sent out to members of the National Peace Corps Association:
On Monday, April 28, National Peace Corps Association learned that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has instructed the PeaceCorps to identify additional efficiencies in its staffing structure, and the agency is expecting the need for significant restructuring at Peace Corps headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The Peace Corps has informed NPCA that the agency “will continue to recruit, place, and train volunteers, and remain committed to supporting their health, safety and security, and effective service.”
Federal employees at Peace Corps are again being offered a “deferred resignation program” option, for which they may apply by Tuesday, May 6. Similar to other federal agencies, this program would allow staff to be put on paid administrative leave through September 30, 2025, at which time their agency employment would conclude. While Peace Corps Volunteer efforts will continue, NPCA is concerned by any proposal to reduce the support necessary to ensure their quality training, support, and well-being. We remain concerned that an already lean agency will be forced to sacrifice services for current Peace Corps applicants, Volunteers, and alumni.

The Orange Monster wants to control what we see and hear. This is one move that dictators do to keep people ignorant.
On social media platforms, Trump recently blasted the two primary public broadcasting networks, posting in all caps: “REPUBLICANS MUST DEFUND AND TOTALLY DISASSOCIATE THEMSELVES FROM NPR & PBS, THE RADICAL LEFT ‘MONSTERS’ THAT SO BADLY HURT OUR COUNTRY!”
In the executive order, Trump instructs the CPB and executive branch departments and agencies to cease direct and indirect funding of NPR and PBS.
