PLAYBOOK: Members of the Republican-controlled Congress have filed a rush of bills seeking to honor President Donald Trump while he is still in office — a multifront effort that has no precedent in congressional history and underscores the lengths that some House Republicans are willing to go to both curry favor with the president and to demonstrate their support, POLITICO’s Ben Jacobs and Gregory Svirnovskiy write this morning.
A look at the bills: In total, there are five such bills introduced in the House over the past two months, which would: put Trump’s face on the $100 bill, create a new $250 bill with Trump’s face adorning it, make Trump’s birthday (June 14) a federal holiday, rename Dulles Airport in Trump’s honor and carve Trump’s face on Mount Rushmore. While the Republicans crafting these bills say they are well-earned recognition, some scholars of American history view them through a darker lens: “This is exactly what the American Revolution was fought to prevent,” said Princeton’s Sean Wilentz.

I sent this letter to Senator Jim Banks on March 20, 2025.
Subject: Sen. Murkowski (R-Alaska) says few Senate Republicans are willing to speak out against actions by the Trump administration & Elon Musk because most fear for their political lives.
Senator Jim Banks, are you a believer in the antics of Mad King Donald or have you been cowed into not speaking up? I’d have a little respect for you if you are afraid but NONE if you believe that the Orange narcissistic, sociopathic, pathological liar is doing anything other than destroying our democratic form of government. He and his worthless sidekick Musk, who received no votes, must be controlled.
Senator Murkowski told reporters Tuesday that many of her colleagues are scared of the attacks she and others who have been willing to buck Trump and the party have faced. That is why they are unwilling to take steps that put them out of line and in the crosshairs of Trump supporters and conservatives. “That’s why you’ve got everybody just zip-lipped, not saying a word because they’re afraid they’re going to be taken down — they’re going to be primaried, they’re going to be given names in the media…We cannot be cowed into not speaking up.”
Look at how strong Senator Elizabeth Warren is. “We’ve got our toes right on the edge of a constitutional crisis here. But here’s the thing: It may be the case that Donald Trump is so full of confidence that he thinks he can wave his wand, and whatever he wants to happen will happen,” Warren said during an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show.”
Even an 83 year old Senator Bernie Sanders isn’t afraid to go on tours to Republican areas and speak out about what this country truly needs. None of it is coming from this administration.

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) on Thursday joined Senate Democrats for a media availability following reports that President Trump will soon sign an executive order abolishing the U.S. Department of Education. Murphy slammed the plan as a dangerous move that would hurt families across the country and prioritize profits for the billionaire and corporate class over ensuring every kid in America has access to a quality education.
Murphy blasted the out-of-touch billionaires in the Trump Administration who are dismantling programs ordinary Americans rely on.
Representative OAC is also a woman with the balls to speak out. “We are on the eve of an authoritarian administration,” the congresswoman said a day before Trump’s inauguration. “This is what 21st-century fascism is starting to look like.”

The Republicans in the House and Senate are so afraid of Trump that they will do anything just so that he will not come down on them. They do not want to be taken out in the primaries because of him.
Some think he is a god and walks on water. I have breaking news for them. He is nothing more than a spoiled cowardly little school yard bully in an old man body. He is a evil, vile, black hearted low life that in reality serve no useful purpose on this planet.

In the meantime the rest us have to fight for them. They are still mostly the neighbor who watches your kids in an emergency or brings you dinner when crisis hits your family.

A bill in the Tennessee House suggests naming BNA Airport in Nashville after Trump. They held up a bit when it was going to cost 10 million in promotional changes.

Soon to come, a Republican bill to change the name of our country from the United States of America to Trumpland. Followed by renaming the Gulf of “America” to the Gulf of Trumpland. All organizations immediately start calling the US “Trumpland”, and every major corporation and law firm donates from $50 million to $1 billion to the Trump Foundation to celebrate Trumpland, in honor of this great moment.

Senator Jim Banks sent out this quote by email to constituents:”I don’t know about you but I’m still thinking about President Trump’s speech to Congress last week. It was one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard and it gave working Americans a renewed hope in the American Dream.”…
Senator Todd Young says this,”As a member of the Senate DOGE Caucus, I am committed to holding government agencies accountable, eliminating wasteful spending, and ensuring taxpayer dollars are used efficiently.”
Subject: Unfortunately, neither Senator Todd Young [R-IN] nor Senator Jim Banks [R-IN] care about the destruction that affects Indiana.
Trump has his sheep convinced that he was sent by GOD to save the world. The fascists are in charge and our democracy is being destroyed. Republicans are leaving us with less services and more expenses. Since being in office, President Trump has supported cuts in billions in federal funding. Muskrat, with the help of his young tech goons, has slashed the budgets of numerous agencies, cut essential staff and cut funding for essential programs.
Unfortunately, neither Senator Todd Young nor Senator Jim Banks care about the destruction that hits Indiana. They don’t care about the prospect of 680,000 people in the country losing their jobs in the auto industry. They don’t care about the impact that cutting the Department of Education will have on college students nor the needs of students in public schools. People will lose their healthcare but that is just fine. [Who needs Medicaid or Medicare? Just seniors, children, the poor and the disabled.] Medical research at universities in Indiana will be curtailed. Cuts to The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana (FHCCI) means that the homeless will have difficulty getting off the streets.

Indiana is the third-most reliant state on federal funding, behind Louisiana and Mississippi. Nearly 44% of the Hoosier budget comes from federal agencies and grants.
1.] The Trump administration plans to impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico and double the tariffs on China to 20%. These tariffs are expected to heavily impact Indiana, with an article from The Conversation projecting our state as the third most impacted by Trump’s tariffs. Indiana is expected to lose $4.82 billion and see a 1.12% decrease in our GDP, affecting the auto, manufacturing, and agriculture industries.
A Hoosier family of four is projected to spend an extra $2,836 each year.
The auto industry, one of Indiana’s biggest economic sectors, is expected to lose $28.2 billion because of these tariffs. These financial losses would put around 680,000 jobs at risk across the nation.
2.] This week Trump signed an executive order to dismantle the US Department of Education.
Indiana receives $1.8 billion from the US Dept. of Education (DOE) for K-12 and higher education, a little less than 10% of the Indiana DOE’s budget. The Division of Family Resources (DFR), which primarily funds schools with a high number of low-income students or students in need of special education, receives a little under $2 billion from the federal government. Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) receives approximately $670,000 in Title III funding. These dollars help students who are learning English as a second language, and they benefit approximately 6,400 students in the IPS system. Additionally, students with disabilities rely on the DOE to enforce the right to an individualized education plan – without it, their needs may go unmet.
This decision to get rid of the Department of Education could also impact hundreds of college students in our state. The department is the largest source of loans for US college students, with the outstanding loan balance in the US standing at $1.69 trillion for nearly 43 million student borrowers.
3.]Congressional Republicans have proposed $880 billion in federal cuts, which would be impossible to achieve without cutting Medicaid or Medicare. Since roughly 70% of Indiana’s funding for Medicaid comes from the national government, Indiana could be in a serious bind. It’s estimated that close to 484,000 Hoosiers would lose their health care coverage if these federal cuts are passed and Indiana fails to cover the costs.
4.] Indiana University and Purdue University’s federal funding for on-campus medical research exceeds 55%. A federal court has temporarily paused the NIH cut, but if they’re implemented millions of dollars would be cut from essential medical research in Alzheimer’s and cancer in Indiana.
5.]The Trump administration is planning to cut half the staff from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). HUD runs national programs to make housing more accessible, and it is also responsible for enforcing the nation’s fair housing laws.
The Trump Administration recently cut grants to The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana (FHCCI). The Center provides various resources to people facing housing insecurity. It also provides legal support to individuals dealing with discriminatory housing practices. The administration has cut the remainder of a $138,889 grant expected to last through June 30, 2025.
Indiana is already considered one of the most difficult states to rent in, with Fort Wayne ranked the third least renter-friendly city in the U.S., according to USA Today. These cuts could worsen the conditions for tenants in Indiana and lead to more discriminatory practices within our housing market.
