More evidence that Jeff Bezos’ sycophantic actions are destroying The Washington Post.
Jennifer Rubin is one of my favorite columnists. She was hired by the Washington Post to offer a view from the right, after establishing a career as a conservative. Trump’s lies and policies turned Rubin into a liberal. She is both a journalist and a lawyer. She writes clearly and forcefully.
Media specialist Brian Stelter reports that Rubin is leaving the Post to start a new venture.
Today, veteran opinion columnist Jennifer Rubin is becoming the latest in a long list of Washington Post figures to leave the troubled institution.
Rubin tells me she is partnering with former White House ethics czar Norm Eisen and launching a startup publication called The Contrarian. Its tagline, “Not owned by anybody,” is a pointed reference to billionaire Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos and other moguls who, in Rubin’s view, have “bent the knee” to President-elect Donald Trump.
“Our goal is to combat, with every fiber of our being, the authoritarian threat that we face,” Rubin says.
Rather than anti-Trump, the founders describe their venture as pro-democracy. They said they have already enlisted about two dozen contributors, including Ruth Ben-Ghiat, Andy Borowitz, George Conway, John Dean, Bob Kagan, Barb McQuade, Katie Phang, Asha Rangappa, Stephen Richer, and Andrew Weissmann.
Eisen, who is departing his CNN legal analyst role, will be the publisher. Rubin will be the editor-in-chief. Rubin says she resigned from the Post because it, “along with most mainstream news outlets, has failed spectacularly at a moment that we most need a robust, aggressive free press.” She adds: “I fear that things are going from bad to worse at The Post.”

Jennifer Rubin and Diane Ravitch are identical twins, ideologically speaking. They were both moderate conservatives for many years until life events turned them into crazed, 100% left-wing partisans. They renounced everything they used to believe in order to conform to their new far Left tribe. Neither one will now say anything that dissents from current left-wing orthodoxy.

Diane: Yes, Jesus was and is as woke as they come, at least by my meaning of that term. I use the term cautiously, however. It’s like “critical race theory,” in having no commonly understood definition to fold into its usage. CBK

I would be thrilled to be Jennifer Rubin’s identical twin, even though I’m old enough to be her mother.
What Jennifer and I share is a willingness to learn from history and events. When you find you are wrong, you admit it.
Some people never learn.

To Mr. Bezos: You either adhere to the principles that presently govern a business enterprise (profit first), or you adhere to the principles that govern journalism (truth first, transparency, democracy, etc.).
This problem, regardless of what you said, was a seed embedded in your purchase of the Washington Post. Too bad you let it grow to destroy the very reason the Post has been so revered over the years. I feel shame for you, even if you don’t. CBK

90% of the mainstream media, including Fox, is owned by six corporations. A few years ago I looked up with those CEOs were. Most of them were old white men with Ivy League educations. Some of the names may have changed now. I recall that one of the six corporations was based in Germany. The rest in the U.S.

Lloyd: I’m wondering if any of Rubin’s colleagues would publish information about being bribed or intimidated on their new site? CBK

She has also been one of my fave OpEd columnists. As soon as I found out, I thinik 2 days ago, I signed up for her new venture, The Contrarian.
Before her departure, the other big loss was one of my fave cartoonists, Ann Telnaes. The mention of “other moguls who, in Rubin’s view, have “bent the knee” to President-elect Donald Trump” is a reference I believe to the last WaPo cartoon by Telnaes. It actually wasn’t the cartoon itself which was killed but rather the required preliminary sketch which her Oinions editor had rejected. After that, she quit. And I joined her new venture too.
That sketch showed part of a very large of statue of Trump in front of which there were 5 figures who were genuflecting in front of the statue: Bezos, and 3 others + Mickey Mouse.
Sincerely, Bobbi Eisenberg
