Four years ago, I used to follow Trump on Twitter, just to know what has doing and saying. I recall the famous tweet when he said “Come to DC on January 6. Will be wild!”
And MAGA did not let him down. They came ready for action. Some were armed, some had bear spray.
David Pepper wants everyone to read what Trump said to his mob of fanatics that morning. Open the link and never forget.
The stability of our government, the durability of our Constitution was on the line. Trump did his best to tear down the government and the Constitution that day. All because the man-baby is a sore loser.

I have spent a long time watching the way various people get pulled into the orbit of maga‑mania and as far as I can see it proceeds in the trialectical series of stages sketched below.

A day that will live forever in Infamy. Only equalled by the results of the 5th November 2024 presidential election.

It is deeply puzzling that most voters would choose an elderly man who has a record as a convicted felon and sexual predator who tried to overthrow the government.
I smell something fishy.

As I understand it when the Founding Fathers were setting ‘things’ up there were concerns about the ‘mob’ or ‘crowd’ mentality.
History is littered with these ‘mass’ movements seeking out simplistic solutions…. the results always end in tears.

Determined, yes! The Founding Fathers worried about the mob electing a demagogue. They put in guardrails, like the Electoral College, assuming that wise men (yes, men) would block the election of a scoundrel.

And that failed spectacularly in 2016
I recall a Newsweek cartoon back in 1980s the cause for it I cannot remember but the cartoon stuck.
Two panels
The first shows a group of contemporary politicians in debate, and one saying:
‘Of course we have to consider just what the Founding Fathers truly had in mind when drafting the Constitution’
Next panel.
Benjamin Franklin standing up and saying the others.
‘Of course you can’t be sure what some yo-yo will make of this in 200 years time’
Ideals are fine on paper. The problem is….
The Paper itself doesn’t get a say in running of…. the system.

I find nothing ” puzzling” about it. This is exactly who we are and sadly who we have always been. We aspire to great principles as a Nation that we have never quite lived up to. All Trump and the Right has done is pull the curtain back (once again) to reveal that large numbers of Americans never believed in the principals we profess as a Nation.

What you’re smelling is Pete Hegseth’s hands.

Trump’s speech is based on his mentor, Roy Cohn’s playbook. As a result Trump will never admit to a mistake or failure. He spins a pack of lies, manipulates everyone else to support his lies and refuses to accept defeat or loss. He goes on the offense and sticks to his “alternative facts”and repeatedly spews his pack of lies. Luckily for our country four years ago, Mike Pence believed in the rule of law and did the right thing. Unlucky for our country is that so many people in this country still believe in this fraud and liar today. This time Trump is surrounded by morally compromised “yes” people that will support whatever Trump wants. What continues to be disturbing is that we still have so few legal ways to fight such blatant chicanery to defend our democracy.

With the Republicans in charge of both houses of Congress and a majority of SCOTUS, it’s easy to feel down.
But it’s not that hard to say that reason and right will prevail if we fight for it.

I am sick that he will be sworn in as our next President – he should have never been allowed to run. I am dreading the next 4 years. I cannot stand to watch him or listen to him!

It’s curious. Russia RepubliQans kneecapped Biden’s presidency by corrosively lying about the integrity of our elections, a virulence the Putin puppet continues to this day. In contrast, all Americans should be alarmed that our Constitution is being violated in real time by having an insurrectionist inhabit the highest public office.

“…because the man-baby is a sore loser.”
I would disagree. Trump did what he did because he is a Russian asset. He still is. His goal is to undermine democratic norms, weakening the American/Western alliance. All the anti-immigration crap is just a screen for prying apart a fragile consensus in the West. Musk is like him. Why else would Musk be having a cow over the UK?

Roy, you reinforce my belief that Musk and Putin collaborated. All in service to undermining our stability. Trump’s choices for cabinet are insane. They make sense only if your goal is destruction.
