The Guardian reports that Elon Musk may not get the highest security clearance, due to his drug use and contacts with foreign nationals.
The space entrepreneur Elon Musk is unlikely to receive government security clearances if he so applied, even as his SpaceX launch company blasts military and spy agency payloads into orbit, according to a report on Monday.
The billionaire, a close ally of Donald Trump, who is set to join the incoming administration as an efficiency expert and recently became the first person to exceed $400bn in self-made personal wealth, is reported by the Wall Street Journal to have been advised by SpaceX lawyers not to seek highest-level security clearances owing to personal drug use and contacts with foreign nationals.
Musk currently holds a “top-secret” clearance that took years to obtain after he discussed use of marijuana on a 2018 podcast with Joe Rogan, according to the outlet. But that may not be enough to have access to information about US government payloads in his rockets.
Typically, candidates undergoing federal security screenings by the department of defense may not receive clearance if the agency expresses concerns about drug or alcohol use, criminal conduct, psychological conditions, sexual behavior or allegiance to the US.
According to the Journal, Musk’s lawyers outlined scenarios in which he might inadvertently disclose secrets to foreign officials with whom he regularly speaks, including the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, with whom he is reported to have been in regular contact since 2022.
Musk’s use of another semi-legal drug, ketamine, in pursuit of what friends call “pure creativity”, along with reports of LSD, ecstasy and magic mushrooms, could also be an issue.
Musk lawyers told the Journal there had been “false facts” in a WSJ report about Musk’s drug patterns and he was “regularly and randomly drug tested at SpaceX and has never failed a test”.
SpaceX lawyers and executives reportedly concluded that if the company sought a higher level of clearance than Musk currently holds, he risked being turned down and potentially stripped of the clearances he currently holds.

But Musk is an immigrant! The Trump administration is empowering immigrants?

If they are white immigrants, esp from South Africa, they waltz in

When are we going to wake up? DOGE is not a real agency and Trump will have Musk in on whatever scheme he chooses. Why do so many continue to believe that rules apply to MAGA? It has been reported that Musk has had frequent conversations with Putin. He has been kissing Trump’s rear end for a few years now. Musk has been playing a spot so subtle game of influence over Russia, the U.S., and any other country that wants to use his Tech. He has big plans. Do we really believe these three keep national secrets from one another? Anne Applebaum identified this as “Autocracy, Inc.” for a reason.

The fact that Musk has been regularly tested by SpaceX for drug influence , in which he has a large financial investment and was founder is hardly a gold standard statement is it now?

Tested by SpaceX is not the same as being tested by the Fed Govt. Before retirement from the Fed Gov’t, my husband wouldn’t even eat poppy seeds or be around people smoking weed due to the standards of the drug tests that the Feds administer. Musk would flunk the gov’t drug tests and background checks. The problem is that Musk literally owns NASA because our politicians believed he was going to be the leader of the New Green Deal….Space X is NASA.

Elon Musk will probably recommend eliminating NASA so SpaceX is the only space program.

He won’t recommend eliminating NASA because he is paid $$$$$ every time the gov’t needs/wants to put something up into the sky. SpaceX is the only gig in town for that. Musk wouldn’t hurt his revenue flow. I believe Musk pulls in about 10 Billion a year from the gov’t through contracts with SpaceX and Tesla.

If the DOD applied the requirements to be eligible for any level security clearance, the convicted rapist, fraud and felon, who became a traitor on January 6, 2021, wouldn’t be qualified.

I agree, Lloyd. What can we expect next? With a criminal as our commander-in-chief (whom the American people elected in what is considered a “fair” election), whatever Trump commands (demands), we must have the “resilience” and “grit” to obey. We’re in for a real ride!

Meanwhile Musk is wandering the Halls of Congress while having continued contacts with Putin and God knows who else. Trump has a habit of projecting, is this what he really means by “the enemy within”?

In a normal government, things could be different, but why would Musk et al have reason to be concerned about this now? Their plan is to remove career people from civil service positions at all levels throughout government & replace them with tRump/MAGA sycophants, starting on day one. So those toadies are probably going to be the ones tasked with determining the outcomes of situations like this, because with tRump at the helm, the point is for him, his billionaire buds & selective hangers-on to be able to benefit above all else.
It will be a huge challenge to fight abnormal, when the Democrats have so little say and the GOP is just as corrupt, money-obsessed, power crazy and morally bankrupt as the con-artist POTUS and his loyalists in charge are, but I suspect that’s where we are headed.

Now Musk is trying to shut down the government over Christmas and beyond, until the inauguration on January 20th, to make sure no bills are passed in Congress until tRump takes office: https://meidasnews.com/news/elon-musk-calls-for-government-shutdown-over-christmas
Do you think he and tRump realize that means people who live on Social Security from paycheck to paycheck probably wouldn’t get their checks in time to pay their rent when it’s due in January –which in cases like mine means having to pay a huge late fee AND many also won’t be able to buy food for a month? These thoughtless, heartless, self-centered jerks think they now OWN the entire country!!!

Yes, but is the MAGA/GOP going to tell Musk & tRump that and stop them? Prematurely trying to take over now is like another tRump coup attempt –only MILLIONS will suffer as a result if he succeeds this time!
