Reuters reports that Muslim leaders in Michigan who endorsed Trump are having buyers’ remorse. Thus far, his cabinet selections are pro-Israel; none is pro-Muslim or pro-Palestinian.
Trump got a campaign donation of $100 million from Dr. Miriam Adelson, Israeli-born wife of the billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson. She is passionate about Israel.
Secretary of State-designate Rubio is pro-Israel.
Trump’s choice for Ambassador to Israel is Christian evangelical Mike Huckabee, who is more Zionist than Netanyahu. Huckabee is a fervent believer in annexation and an opponent of a two-state solution. He has said that there are no Palestinians.
Why would American Muslims endorse a man who tried to ban Muslims in his first term?

As the rattlesnake said to the boy, “You knew what I was before you picked me up.”

Another example of why Trump can never bet trusted for anything. During his first four years in the White House, he broke 53% of his promises to his voters.

Obviously, these Muslims didn’t do their homework. Trump, backed by Jewish money, has never been pro-Muslim; in fact, he signed a travel ban from six Muslim countries during his first term. He also recognized the capital of Israel as Jerusalem. Many of Trump’s big donors are Christian Nationalists that want annex Gaza. American Muslims were naive to believe that Trump is in their corner. Trump and Netanyahu are birds of a feather.

I find it incredulous that a majority of Americans have listened to Trump lie unapologetically for the past eight years and more, yet have chosen to allow themselves to be conned by him. That black’s, Latinos, Muslims, Catholics, other people who claim to be Christian, and believers of other faiths have bought in to every outrageous thing this man has said is, itself, outrageous.
Now, bless their hearts, because of their naivety, all of us must be prepared to pay a terrible price.
For Donald Trump, money is more important that human beings and some human beings see to matter not at all.
Let’s hope everyone takes the opportunity to listen to James Talarico’s message that you posted on your blog.

First of all, it’s African Americans, not “blacks”. 92% of African American women voted for vp Harris and so did 86% of African American men. Don’t you dare blame us! We are the most reliabe voting block for the democratic party. Muslims who voted for trump should be ashamed of themselves. He showed you who he was in 2016. He hasn’t changed. In fact he’s worse. But I truly believe Vance will be taking over sooner than later and boy, everyone better watchout for him! He is a true snake.

What did people think was going to happen? Trump has been pro-Netanyahu for years. And despite some saying he was the candidate of peace, this is the guy who riled up North Korea to the point of near war, dropped the Mother of All Bombs, and regularly threatened to bomb Iran.

While I understand that the Muslim community does not like the Netanyahu genocide, it strikes me that one of the reasons he pursued the path of endless violence in response to Oct 6 was to create disappointment in the Muslim community prior to the election. To say, “it’s all hard to believe” doesn’t really capture it. And I think we’ve seen nothing yet. We’ll be hearing that buyer’s remorse song from every corner of the United States and beyond for a very long time as we watch the United States of America get torn apart.
Everyone screamed the facts of the Trump matter for months, years, trying to get past the hands-over-their-ears Maga people. But no one was listening on the so-called “right” because the so-called left, and even some on the right who “got it,” were regularly so demonized so badly from the dreg-brains at Fox that ANYTHING that was said against Trump was turned off like a light switch. This whole take-down of the United States has Rupert Murdock’s fingerprints all over it. Even Putin couldn’t have done what the systematics at Fox did.
Also BTW, watch Glen Fine on BookTV this weekend (and on BookTV.com). He was a career Inspector General for various agencies of the United States. These people make it their job to take care of “waste, fraud, and abuse” in the government. THEY DON’T NEED A CHEAP pie-faced trillionaire co-president telling them what to do or dismissing them once they find out they are working for the “deep state.” (Trump probably doesn’t even know about the network of these civil servants or how fine-tuned and dedicated they are.)
“Fine wrote” Watchdogs: Inspectors General and the Battle for Honest and Accountable Government.” But the BookTV interview and Q&A are extremely enlightening. CBK

This was part of a great disinformation campaign that got through to college students and Muslim communities. In the name of free speech, the college students across our country protested, which is an American right(so far) and yet many had no idea what they really wanted or expected from the administration. The trump campaign was never really expected to answer to these students. The unrest on campuses was also something that the right wing capitalized on. We are in doomed as a nation of democratic values if we cannot get a grip on disinformation.

Know how they did it? Easy, the firehose of misinformation played both sides, and won. First, show ads targeting Jewish voters that claim Trump is pro-Israel. Done. Next, show another set of ads targeting Muslims, that also depict Harris as pro-Israel, and thus by definition, anti-Muslim. It worked. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/12/us/politics/antisemitic-ads-doug-emhoff-muslim-michigan.html

Had these Muslim leaders done ANY research on Trump’s first administration they would have found information about his pro-Israel position.
While I understand, and to some extent sympathetize with, their anger about Biden’s policy in the Middle East, endorsing Trump was short-sighted, and counterproductive.

That’s weird because the liberal newspaper of record reported that every Muslim they could find to interview TRUSTED Trump even though he has nominated some pro-Israel folks.
How did Reuters find these folks having doubts when the NYT reassures us they either do not exist, or have views so appallingly anti-Trump that they need to be ignored?
From the NYT:
“Many Muslim voters backed Mr. Trump to protest the Biden administration’s unwavering support for Israel in its war against Gaza.
One of those voters, Khaled Saffuri, a Palestinian American of Fairfax County, Va., said he worried that Mr. Rubio, the secretary of state nominee, is “pro-Israel to no limit.” But Mr. Saffuri believes if Mr. Trump keeps his campaign promises, he will step in to end the war.
“I didn’t think he was going to appoint angels,” said Mr. Saffuri, 65, who leads a foundation involved in foreign policy issues.
Sam Alasri, who heads a Yemeni political organization in Michigan, said he was also willing to give Mr. Trump the benefit of the doubt.
He said that Mr. Trump’s nominations, including Representative Elise Stefanik for U.N. ambassador and former Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas as ambassador to Israel, raised some concern.
But, “we trust him,” Mr. Alasri said of Mr. Trump. “I trust his word.”
What is wrong with the anti-Trump Reuters when even the rabidly anti-Trump NYT clearly looked everywhere for a Muslim to be critical of Trump but apparently could only find Muslims in America who trust Trump so much they just didn’t mind these picks very much.

Many Muslim voters refused to cast ballots for Kamala Harris because of Biden/Harris support for Israel’s campaigns of ethnic cleansing and genocide despite fears of what Donald Trump will probably do after January 20, 2025. As Caitlin Johnstone said, “Everything bad that happens under the Trump administration will have happened because the Democratic Party was too corrupt and evil to run a good campaign with a good platform and a good candidate.”

lol that anyone is quoting Australian right wing apologist/ Dem-hater, Ukrainian children hater Caitlin Johnstone, whose anti-Ukraine, pro-Putin stance is truly reprehensible.
Did you really just quote her as saying that everything evil Trump does should be blamed on the Democrats and the people who voted for the Democrats? Nope, Caitlin, people who voted for Trump or for a 3rd party because they hated the idea of a Black woman being president are to blame for empowering the Republicans who obviously are to blame for their own policies.
What next for Caitlin? “Jimmy Carter is to blame for all of Reagan’s policies”? Ukraine is to blame for Putin’s annihilating so many Ukraine families? (Oh right, she already blames Ukraine and not Putin).
For some odd reason, Caitlin Johnstone never seems to attack her own Australian government with the over the top extreme hate she has for the Democrats (which rivals her extreme hate for Ukraine since Zelensky stood up to her beloved Putin).

AIPAC and the old guard in the Democratic Party hamstrung the Harris campaign around Israel. The fact is that few Democratic policy makers spoke out because they were threatened with their careers. Shumer called out Netanyahu on the floor of the Senate, but we heard little else afterward. Senate Democrats allowed Netanyahu to speak in the Chamber. Some actually lost primaries to candidates funded by AIPAC. We are witnessing the fruits of Citizens United. The massive amount of money spent in this election was sickening while there is little evidence this will change anytime soon. The Palestinians had no agency in this cash grab. Everyone from Joe Biden to Anti-Trump Podcasters were fine with unquestioned support for Israel as long as the money kept coming in. Anytime people criticized Netanyahu, they were called anti-semites. The red flags in Michigan were obvious from the time Israel decided to obliterate Palestine, yet Biden and Harris showed little regard for the suffering. Now Trump is putting an “end timer” in the embassy in Israel, and Jared Kushner is measuring the drapes for his Mediterranean resort in Palestine. We have put people in office who are not bothered by the suffering and death of those with no money or power. If only the Democrats had listened to the warnings and actually stood against this conflagration. Maybe the results would have been different.

I can’t understand why any Muslims supported Trump. He tried to impose a Muslim ban in his first term. Now, he has appointed Mike Huckabee as Ambassador to Israel. And today he appointed a Jewish real estate developer as his Middle East negotiator, a post last held by Jared Kushner. Nsive is a polite way of describing the Muslim leaders who endorsed Trump.

Diane and all: The below is from the “New York Review of Books” (Nov. 21, 2024, 14-16) which helps explain the serious misogyny of so many who voted for Trump.
“White men’s anger comes from the potent fusion of two sentiments—entitlement and a sense of victimization. The righteous indignation, the anti-Washington populism, is fueled by what I came to call ‘aggrieved entitlement’—that sense that those benefits to which you (men) believed yourself entitled have been snatched away from you by unseen forces larger and more powerful.” (Michael Kimmel, Angry White Men, 2017)
CBK’s comment: When you think of it, the male sense of entitlement has been around for centuries in virtually all cultures–it’s ingrained in our historical “air.” So many women still abide by it also. Is it any wonder men are going through a sense of aggrievement. It will probably take generations to wash away, if it actually does.
And this:
“The structures of patriarchy “. . . ’are often quite invisible to the people (males) whose privileged social positions they serve to uphold and buttress. So, dismantling them may feel not only like a COMEDOWN, but also an INJUSTICE, to the privileged. They will tend to feel flattened, rather than merely leveled, in the process.’ In a divided culture, all games are zero-sum—if women are gaining, then men must be losing.” (Kate Manne, Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny (2017).
