The hypocrisy of Republicans is astounding. Right before Hurricane Helena devastated parts of Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee, Congress voted on nearly $20 billion in funding for FEMA.
Every Democratic member of Congress voted for fully funding FEMA. Large numbers of Republicans voted NAY, including some from the states hit hardest by Helene.
Newsweek reported:
As Hurricane Helene careened toward Florida’s Panhandle, numerous Republicans voted against extending funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Last week, Congress approved $20 billion for FEMA’s disaster relief fund as part of a stopgap spending bill to fund the government through December 20. But the measure left out billions of dollars in requested supplemental disaster funding.
The Senate approved the measure by a 78-18 vote on September 25 after it passed the House in a 341-82 vote. Republicans supplied the no votes in both chambers.
Some of the Republicans who voted against the bill represent states that have been hard hit by Helene, including Florida Representative Matt Gaetz.
These are the Republicans who voted NO to FEMA funding. Note how many come from states that were hit hard by the hurricane:

Besides a misogynist and racist crust abiding on the heart of so many Americans, I think the Hamas invasion of Israel on October 7 last year will have had the greatest influence on this next American election. CBK

Hamas did not “invade” Israel. Yes, they broke free from the open air prison in which they had been being isolated by and controlled by Israel and attacked that country. Biden’s unwavering support of the Zionists in Israel allows the Zionist fanatics to kill, maim, wound, etc. . . well over 150K now with the numbers going ever higher.

Duane,
Hamas terrorists invaded Israel one year ago and brutally murdered men, women, and children. Even babies. One 9-month-old was shot in its mother’s arms. Another was taken captive with his 3-year-old brother and mother. They are either dead or hidden in a tunnel in Gaza.
Hamas is a terrorist group. They do not represent the interests of the Palestinians of Gaza. They have received billions in aid over the years, intended for food, medical supplies, schools, universities–but they used the money to build an elaborate network of tunnels where they could hideout and smuggle weapons to and from Egypt and Israel. The number killed on Oct 7, 2023, is akin to the slaughter of 30,000 in the US. How would we respond?
As I have written here, I think that Netanyahu is horrible. He’s responsible for failing to secure the border; he’s responsible for failing to reach a ceasefire agreement; he’s responsible for failing to get the hostages out.
But Hamas is also responsible for its actions.
And so is Hezbollah, which is armed by Iran (like Hamas). Hezbollah has been raining missiles on Northern Israel for years. How long would we tolerate it if a neighboring country rained missiles daily on our citizens? Hezbollah destroyed the government of Lebanon.
Saudi Arabia was about to normalize relations with Israel when Hamas attacked peaceful, left wing Israel kibbutzim. The people who were slaughtered were allies of the people in Gaza. An irony.
This is a sad day.

I hope every Hamas and Hezbollah fighter dies and gets their jihadist 72 virgin reward, and every supporter reaps the consequences of supporting the evil they represent. I am in favor of utterly destroying Iranian capabilities. Sea of glass if necessary.
Iran is the problem in the Middle East for the last 40 years. It’s not the people…it’s their authoritarian oppressive, theocratic regime.
I honestly wish we could expedite their departure/demise…but that would be rude, in terms of international diplomacy. May they trip over their own IEDs.

This behavior is in keeping with the current GOP’s plans to divest from most expenditures for the common good. Project 2025, if implemented, would gut FEMA. Every day Americans would be stranded an left to fend for themselves. The wealthy would have a distinct advantage in such as society, and for everyone else it would be “survival of the fittest.”
“Project 2025, the sprawling policy playbook written by allies and past advisers of former President Donald Trump, would terminate disaster-preparation grants, stop or reduce aid after smaller and more prevalent disasters and phase out the program that provides almost all of the nation’s flood insurance under the Federal Emergency Management Agency.”https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/project-2025-would-leave-hurricane-helene-survivors-with-little-disaster-aid/

It used to be Republicans hate socialism . . . until hurricane season, but apparently now it is “Republicans hate socialism, even in hurricane season.” I suspect that these “worthies” were allowed to vote no to maintain their “anti-socialism” credentials and because the bill was sure to pass both houses otherwise.
They usually post signs stating that the funds provided for the rebuilt come from <whatever>. Now they should include “This is being rebuilt using FEMA funds <your representative> voted against supplying you.”

All of these votes come from people who see their position in power as safe from voter outrage. The political sterility that is maintained by misinformation and its companion, tyranny, has lulled to sleep the average voter. He sees himself only as a foil to socialism. All else is immaterial. No amount of graft, immorality, or mendacity ever removes these sycophants from their places as guardians of the myth of “the real Americans.”

I think they voted because their god and master Traitor Trump told them how to vote. The convicted rapist, fraud and felon thrives on chaos. What better way to spread chaos to support the traitor’s endless lies than repeated the propaganda machine that supports him, than to get rid of FEMA right before hurricane season hits.
The malignant narcist also killed the immigration bill that would have helped stabilizes a theater of chaos he wrote the script for about immigrants.
