CNN called out Elon Musk for posting unhinged, misogynistic tweets about Kamala Harris. Twitter has been turned into a pro-Trump platform. Musk, the richest man in the world, is frightened that Kamala is a “communist” because she wants to lift up people who need housing, jobs, food security, a better quality of life. And, like JD Vance, he thinks that women are incapable of thinking or leading.
CNN wrote:
Elon Musk’s disdain for the Democratic Party was never subtle, but in recent weeks his commentary on the upcoming US presidential election and his attacks against Vice President Kamala Harris have intensified, aided by a crude use of burgeoning artificial intelligence technology.
On Monday, Musk posted an AI-generated image on his social media platform that depicted Harris as a communist, wearing a red uniform complete with hammer and sickle emblazoned hat.
Musk, who has endorsed former President Donald Trump for president and poured millions into a super PAC supporting the Republican, captioned the image with the false assertion, “Kamala vows to be a communist dictator on day one. Can you believe she wears that outfit!?”
The image, which appeared to violate X’s policy on manipulated content, resembled an AI-generated image posted by Trump last month during the Democratic National Convention, envisioning Harris addressing a crowd under communist symbols.
Musk’s post came a day after he shared another post with a screenshot suggesting that only “high status males” should be able to participate in government because women (and men with “low testosterone”) are not capable of critical thought. Musk posted it to his 196 million followers with the comment, “interesting observation.”

NO COINCIDENCE
It is no coincidence that the rise of “social media” coincides with the rise of attacks on democracy in America and around the world:
Communist and fascist dictators around the world immediately recognized that America’s naive Congress had given “social media” a get-out-of-jail-free card when Congress passed Section 230 — so the enemies of democracy immediately began flooding social media with pages and fake “news” that undermine democracy. Musk is taking advantage of Section 230.
The result is that today throughout America and throughout every other democratic republic in the world there are many millions of people who believe the lies that their democracy has failed.
And the communist and fascist attacks continue even now more intently than ever because Section 230 allows them to.
There’s no need to pass laws regulating free speech — the only thing needed to restore truth is to remove Section 230 that gives social media companies their get-out-of-jail-free pass even when the most outrageous lies are posted.
Removing Section 230’s free pass to allow lies simply makes social media companies responsible for determining the truth of what is posted on their pages and allows citizens to sue them if they allow lies to be posted.
Get rid of Section 230 and the world of social media changes for the better

As someone wrote at this blog:
“the current state of play amounts to Facebook and Twitter having “no oversight and regulation”
Anyone here believe that Facebook and Twitter have sufficient oversight and regulation?
Having twitter police itself with no oversight or regulation (which means Elon Musk decides) is as dangerous as the Supreme Court enabling Trump to police himself with no oversight and regulation.

On tonight’s evening news. if elected, Trump will bring in Elon Musk to reign in the federal government’s spending. How does he have qualifications to do this? Let’s all trust the nutty super-billionaire. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-plugs-elon-musk-backed-plan-government-spending-speech-rcna169757

NYC: Nor does SCOTUS have oversight or regulation. I guess they were supposed to have Congressional oversight and be self-regulated. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! CBK

Some people believe if someone even SUGGESTS that the oversight of twitter/x needs to be addressed it is “censorship” (1st amendment violation!) It’s the same old right wing narrative that is used to block any gun regulations (2nd amendment violation!) Of course the rights of anyone who doesn’t agree with the right wing agenda can always be violated (“lock them up”) by neo-fascist Republicans who whine that Trump’s rights are being violated if there is any response to his illegal actions (and by neo-fascist Republicans I include the Supreme Court majority.) Orwellian.

NYC: The whole idea of democracy implicates self-regulation, rather than political control; self-regulation implicates a broad range of human developmental elements; and those elements implicate PUBLIC EDUCATION, as well as (of course) developmental influences from parents/family/ neighborhoods, group affiliations, etc. . . . where the moral/character development of children comes through the social/cultural order.
In brief, though I think many/most teachers tacitly, if not overtly, teach to personal responsibility, I have long-thought the emphasis on STEM and a capitalist-mindset culture (and the problematic ethos of the classroom these days) have set the development of personal responsibility, moral development, etc., on the back burner, if they make it to the stove at all. This comment infuriates me. I’d say that, “Anyone who gives Trump $45 million a month in campaign money, is not capable of critical thought.”

In case anyone here missed it, this from NPR note today: (all copied)
by Brittney Melton, September 6, 2024
Good morning. Here’s the other news we’re following today:
NPR identified two Trump campaign staffers involved in an altercation at Arlington National Cemetery last week. They, according to a source, are deputy campaign manager Justin Caporale and Michel Picard, a member of Trump’s advance team. Those staffers had a verbal and physical confrontation with a cemetery official who tried to stop them from taking photos and videos in Section 60, a restricted area where many casualties of Iraq and Afghanistan are buried. The Trump campaign and the US Army acknowledged the incident, but this week, Trump insisted it didn’t take place at all.
. . . Former President Donald Trump stated earlier this on Truth Social that there was no conflict or fighting at the cemetery and it was a made up story, NPR’s Stephen Fowler tells Up First. Trump then reiterated the false assertion that nothing happened on Sean Hannity’s radio show. This comes after his campaign accused the Arlington staffer of having a mental health episode when the story first broke. Lately, there’s been several examples of Trump saying something that contradicts the campaign’s official stance like Florida’s abortion access measure, which he seemed to support, then had no position, then opposed it.
