At a campaign event, Trump went into a manic rant about his enemies. He blamed Nikki Haley for the January 6 insurrection!
On the blog Meidas Touch:
Here’s an excerpt of Trump’s bizarre statements:
Trump: You know, by the way, they never report the crowd on January 6th. You know, Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley Nikki Haley, you know, they did you know, they destroyed all of the information, all of the evidence, everything deleted it, destroyed all of it. All of it because of lots of things, like Nikki Haley is in charge of security. We offered her 10,000 people.
The crowd quieted in complete and utter confusion as Trump rambled on about Haley.
Trump was confusing Haley with then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi, repeating yet another debunked conspiracy theory.
This is the latest in a series of troubling mental lapses from the former president, adjudicated rapist, and current criminal defendant.
Donald Trump recently has repeatedly claimed he’s beating Barack Obama in the polls, insisted that you need voter IDto buy bread, said Jeb Bush sent American troops to the middle east, bragged that he calls corn ‘non-liquid gold,’ and said that Joe Biden started World War II, among other cognitive lapses.
And then there’s this tweet by Republicans Against Trump, showing the randy old guy signing the T-shirt of a pretty young woman, writing directly on her breasts. The caption is “Can you imagine how the media would react if Biden or any other candidate did this?” But Trump does it, no big deal.

Trump is one of the most vile people who ever lived. And now, on top of that, he is suffering from dementia. Too long on a diet of cheeseburgers and Coke and snorted Adderall?

It’s the cult of personality. There is no logic to the unwavering support of Trump loyalists. All of the vileness that Bob mentions rolls off his back like water off a duck’s. While any Biden boob signing would be splashed all over the media so would any single false statement on par with Trump’s unhinged rants. The media portrays Biden as “gaffe prone,” but he is not suffering from dementia. He is steady, unflappable, and he is focused on getting things done.

It is obvious to all fair-minded people that both Trump and Biden have experienced cognitive decline. Biden is three years older and his decline is more pronounced, but it is very likely that at the same age Trump will be in even worse shape. Polls show that around 70% of likely voters don’t want a Biden vs. Trump rematch, but as of now that seems likely.

As someone said on Twitter yesterday, would you rather have a man of 80 who acts like he’s 40 or a man of 80 who acts like he’s 2?

I prefer neither. Trump acts childishly all the time and should be nowhere near the Oval Office. That does not change the fact that Joe Biden has suffered serious cognitive decline. He does not act like he is 40. He rarely holds a press conference and he will not do interviews with anyone who might ask challenging questions. Many Democrats in private admit that Biden has seriously declined, and even before he was President he was not noted for being particularly smart, as Barack Obama once said.
That people here contort themselves every which way to rationalize Biden’s decline is a great example of how extreme partisanship and tribalism can warp thinking about political matters. One frequent commenter on this blog had noted many times before about how Biden looked frail physically and not sharp mentally. Yesterday he retracted those observations purely out of tribal loyalty. How did Biden’s physical and mental conditions suddenly change for the better? Yes, Trump is awful, but that fact does not change the reality of Biden’s medical condition.

@Diane — You beat me to it. Joe Biden speaks slowly because of his lifelong stutter. He is sincere. He is 81. Trump is 77. Trump is 6’3, 215 as well. BS. Biden rides his bike and remains active. Trump (and apparently has a family history of dementia) is really, as they say, “losing it.” He projects onto others all of his shortcomings. The media really hypes the age thing, but one can truly see the decline in 45. And the continued story telling (remember grandpa, you just told me that story). And, Diane, my granddaughter is 2, and she is much smarter and articulate than 45. I need to go rake more leaves because all of the insanity is driving me crazy. And, by the way, thank you for all of your information and allowing me to participate.

I don’t see Biden’s decline as more pronounced. His movements may be slower and so is his tongue. The mind and sense of duty seem intact. If I remember correctly, FDR did some amazing things for this country from his wheelchair. Trump in comparison is an incoherent, raving lunatic that is a threat to democracy.

I suspect that Trump’s is worse. He can’t figure out these days whether he is running against Joe Biden or Barack Obama, and he confuses Nancy Pelosi with Nikki Haley. Pretty extreme. It’s difficult to see, I know, because he was already of such a low level of cognitive functioning, but I encourage you to go listen to as much of a recent Trump rally speech as you can stand. The man is at the point where he is babbling incoherent, disjointed gibberish.

@Diane — On YouTube, someone profiled Trump from the 80s till present and his usage of word choice was higher. I just found this observation as well. I, too, noticed everything is “…very, very…” like a middle schooler or below would speak. His story never changes; a retell of the same ol’ crap. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phsU1vVHOQI

I watched the State of the Union, and every other public address I can find, I do not see cognitive decline. I see obvious physical decline. But I do not see Biden confused as to the facts on the ground, whether in Ukraine or Israel or here at home.
And frankly, I appreciate a man or a woman who understands history, something that seems vanishing rare these days. And I appreciate a man who honors our allies and the importance of sticking with what you believe.

Well said, jsrtheta. I agree!
Biden is experiencing physical decline, but not mental decline.

Trump has a defense against all evidence of gaffes and mental confusion:
“Ya, know, these clips of me saying things are all a bunch of IA or AI or E-I-E-I-O.”
His stable geniosity continues to unravel.

But his best defense is that he was shown pictures of a kangaroo, a camel and a whale and he correctly identified the whale.

Now that he’s introduced the idea of Nikki Haley as Jan. 6 instigator, Trump should go with it. Koch funds both Young Americans for Freedom and Nikki Haley. An offshoot of Young Americans for Liberty, Make Liberty Win PAC, endorsed for political office in Maine, Matthew Brackley. Two days ago Brackley pled guilty for his role in Jan. 6.

Oh, I think the DNC should make a few “Best of” reels of Trump when he’s like this. If nothing else, it would give the wavering voters a dose of reality.

Trump is in trouble:
When properly dissected, Trump’s “victory” in the Iowa caucuses is a big concern for his electability. For example, although the media made a Big Deal of the winter weather, the weather was well within what Iowans are used to at this time of year, and Iowa businesses reported no drop off in traffic at stores and restaurants — but, only 40% of Iowans bothered to votel, even though the caucuses were the topic of endless coverage in the media. That means that 60% of Iowans weren’t all the interested in any of the candidates.
BOTTOM LINE: Trump is a Serial Loser. The majority of genuine Republicans know this, and perhaps in the coming New Hampshire primary election they will send a strong message that serial loser Trump is not going to help the Party win the White House or anything else.
