Yesterday, Governor Ron DeSantis was sworn in for a second term. He promised to continue battling WOKE ideas and people. This includes expunging any teaching or curriculum that suggests that racism persists today in American society. He will also stand strong against the dangerous possibility of recognizing that LGBT people exist or have the same rights as others. And he promises to drive drag queens out of Florida because they violate his sense of “normalcy.”
Gov. Ron DeSantis reiterated his pledge to combat the “woke mob” and touted his achievements over the last four years during his inauguration in Tallahassee on Tuesday. In front of the steps of the Old Capitol and before thousands of politicians, lobbyists, donors and the public, DeSantis gave a mostly boilerplate denunciation of “woke” ideology. “We seek normalcy, not philosophical lunacy,” he said. “We will never surrender to the woke mob. Florida is where woke goes to die.”
These are clearly the issues that are most important to the state of Florida. Expect him to present these as national issues when he throws his hat into the ring for 2024.

Ron DeSantis is a demagogue bully. He doesn’t lead. He misleads, blames and scapegoats to deflect from his own failures and shortcomings. DeSantis is the standard bearer for the aggrieved white male, conservative Christians, racists and greedy corporations. Like Trump he knows how to placate his base with contrived culture wars and misinformation. I cannot understand how more people in Florida cannot see him for the craven, manipulative, opportunist that he is.

I think everything DeSantis does is to win over the MAGA RINO vote when he runs for president in the GOP primaries for the 2024 election. If he gains their support, the odds are he will run against Biden in the general election or if Biden does not run again for some reason, whoever the Democratic candidate is for president in 2024.
Then, if DeSantis wins the White House in 2024, everything he does will be to end up in the White House for the rest of his life. DeSantis has no soul.

FINALLY! A great patriot is going to DO something to stop the drag queens! They kidnap and groom our children. They carry crowbars under their dresses to tear down the statues of our great Southern war heroes! And never forget that it was the drag queens who assaulted the Capitol on Jan. 6th with the help of the traitorous Capitol police, and our democracy was saved only by patriotic Americans who stood in the breech and stopped the destruction!

Why is this blog so obsessed with drag queens and transgender issues?

Because we don’t believe they (or anyone, for that matter) should be ostracized, marginalized or killed for who they are. People like you can’t claim to be familiar with that bit of human decency. Next question?

You should ask Ron DeSantis that question.
He’s the one obsessed with them.

When politicians and religious nuts are one in the same, e.g. DeSantis, obsessions like the one against drag queens serve a couple of purposes. They provide a talking point to rile up an ignorant voter base. And secondly, they make politicians feel superior.
White over Black, man over woman, straight over gay and conservative Christian over all others.

The question you should be asking is why 0.5% of the population is such a concern to a mass murderer like DeSantis. 40,000 more Floridians dead than NY residents of Covid, when for a whole lot of reasons that number should be lower.
.When 10% of Catholic priests were found to be pedophiles not to excuse the clergy of other denominations.
I would say the bigger problem for Floridians worried about their families young and old is the Clergy and DeSantis.

Interesting question. Drag queens have been around for many years. Parts of Fort Lauderdale are very gay and host drag queen shows. I have never heard of drag queen violence. What is Ron afraid of? Or does he see this as an issue that will stir up the base?

The Repugnican base is driven by fear. Fear of change. Fear of the other. Ronnie uses that. Fascists have always used that. It’s the Fascist playbook, tried and true.

“The governor’s inauguration festivities included a candlelight dinner Monday for donors who gave between $25,000 and $1 million. Unlike four years ago, when the inaugural committee released the list of donors, this year none of the donors or their donations have been disclosed. After Tuesday’s swearing-in ceremony, there was “A Toast to One Million Mamas” at the Governor’s Mansion at 2 p.m., and the inaugural ball was scheduled to begin at Florida State University at 6 p.m. Unlike the events four years ago, both were closed to reporters.”
