Aaron Brink is the father of Anderson Andrews, who (allegedly) shot and killed five people and wounded nearly two dozen others at the gay bar Club Q in Colorado Springs recently.
Brink is a Mormon, a porn star and a former meth addict. When he heard that his son had been arrested for multiple murders, he was stunned to hear that his son was in a gay bar but relieved to think that he was not gay. He abandoned his son and his wife years ago. In his mind, being gay was far, far worse than being a mass murderer.
Look for this guy on video, probably YouTube. Abandoned his family. Hates gays. calls himself a “conservative Republican.”
Brink reflects the free-floating hatred that is regularly spouted by conservative Republicans.
I thought I was good at articulating myself but this one leaves me unable to do so. I try to be empathetic and practice discernment as opposed to judging outright, be a good person, and so forth. But have to ask: where the hell do these people come from?
Under a rock.
Under the Republican Circus tent.
Cirque de Soily
They come from American culture. Thank the wealthy and the media they control. Thank them for Jan. 6. Thank them for everything.
They come from Pandora’s Box, otherwise known as the Land of it45. The it45 legitimatized escape of the wildebeasts & thus the vile activities of the worst of the worst of America.
Reportedly, the suspected gunman’s grandfather is a member of the Calf. state House. The GOP Representative is a “family values” guy, non-denominational protestant and, member of the anti-abortion caucus, who praises Catholic clergy (and, posts pictures with them outside of his congressional office).
(1) Anti-gay (2) anti-woman (3) Republican (4) conservative Christian religion and (5) hate with a propensity toward forceful compliance to their views – it’s politically and socially unwise to treat the five as if they are separate.
There are plenty of people that do not handle the topic of homosexuality and same sex attraction with compassion, gentleness and care. It’s too bad that legitimate concerns in our culture has become twisted by so many into hate. I recommend this documentary, I think it does a good job of expressing how these issues should be dealt with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3YKpnrzmqc
Kudos for bringing up religion in a forum where the “issue” is often discussed with no connection to its origin.
Is there a parallel movie from the same producers that describes how we should “deal with” the issue of heterosexuality?
Should there be a disclaimer on movies from myth land –
one that says it may be painful to watch women and gays in 2nd class citizenship roles while straight, White men who are evangelical, conservative Catholic, etc. are assumed to be an exemplary standard by which all others should be measured?
ACjohnson-
Any idea why the “comments” to the movie were turned off by the YouTube moderator?
Personally, I prefer democracy to authoritarianism.
Blog readers who aren’t familiar with Bryan Fischer can read about him at the SPLC site. The sixth paragraph from the bottom of the entry explains Fischer’s connection to the American Family Association. It appears Johnson’s linked movie may be the creation of a division of AFA.
If readers are interested in a highly controversial view (perhaps unique to Fischer) about the origin of the Nazi party, the SPLC quotes Fischer about the subject.
The article introduced me to a new term- “masculine, muscular Christianity.” Christian myths are necessary to prop up men? It’s profoundly sad to think that there are men
who demand a playing field that’s not level because they’ve decided that they can’t compete economically, socially or politically otherwise?
I started to watch the linked movie and got a very bad feeling about where it was headed. I didn’t watch any more.
Pink News wrote a review of the first American Family Studios movie, “Summer Snow.” The review was very clever and funny in its panning of the film.
Bryan Fischer was Chaplain of the Idaho Senate.
Oh my G-d, I saw a video of the father and I could only take about 3 minutes of the 20 minute interview. The man sounds, acts and looks like someone on drugs or who may have some brain damage. His body and head movements are very strange and he’s constantly twisting and moving around as he’s being interviewed. He claimed that his ex-wife told him that his son was dead by suicide several years ago! Life is indeed stranger than fiction. The man appears to have taken too many hits to the head and he probably owns guns.
And then there’s granddad: California MAGA Republican Assemblyman Randy Voepel is the grandfather of Colorado Springs shooting suspect Anderson Lee Aldrich, according to media reports.
Absolutely agree re: brain damage.
Jersey Joe,
Yes, that is all probably true. Although lots of people suffer brain damage from too many hard hits to the head or too many drugs and it doesn’t turn them into folks spewing hateful, violent, racist rhetoric.
Gabby Giffords suffered significant brain damage, and she had every reason to turn into someone angry, but she didn’t.
So maybe this person was always full of hate and violence (which makes sense if he chose to do MMA) and the brain damage means he just no longer has the filter he had to know when spewing his hateful beliefs would get him into trouble.
“he man appears to have taken too many hits to the head and he probably owns guns.”
Don’t know about the former but the latter is bullshit.
The shooter’s dad has all the marks of a typical ammosexual
Cammosexual too.
(Different from camelsexual, usually)
Remember the ammo
The AR 15
Remember the cammo
The tan and the green
Frankly he seems like he’s suffered brain damage. He was a professional MMA fighter and got knocked out 11 times, so it’s plausible. Not to mention the drug use.
He talks like Herschel Walker.
I agree. While his remarks about his son are repulsive, he’s obviously not coherent or of clear mind. He does remind me of Walker, too.
It’s surprising to learn the names of 4 U.S. cities that were singled out in the reporters’ exposés of one conservative religious order’s, “cultivation of wealthy donors and fast expansion.” The four cities are St. Paul -Minneapolis, Richmond (Va.), Columbus (Oh) and Miami (Fl). IMO, the order’s work lives on, politically, in those cities.
Wikipedia summarizes the story in the entry, “Controversies surrounding the Legion of Christ.”
For depth, readers can review the information posted by the International Consortium of Investigative Reporters on 10-5-2021. The research was extracted from what is referred to as the Paradise and Pandora papers. The topics include the personal crimes/transgressions of the religious order’s members and secret trusts, American rental properties and evictions during the pandemic, etc. By clicking on the ICIJ article’s, “key findings” tab, readers can reduce the amount of reading.
Miami has, unfortunately, really gone south.
& I’m not just whistlin’ “Dixie.”
He’s been obviously scary for a while, apparently:
I’m glad he’s a “former” meth addict. People like him could give meth a bad name.
Especially Jesse from Breaking Bad, who might never get another job as a meth cook.
Aaron Brink, former porn star, and the father of a mass murderer, is the face of the MAGA RINO, theofascist, anarchist, extreme-right controlled Republican Party of today.
I’m pretty sure that every living and dead Republican President, before Traitor Trump, all the way back to Abraham Lincoln, must be horrified at what has happened to their party, that is if there is life after death for the dead ones.
Here is the video interview of Aaron Brink, the killer’s father (alleged killer).
His father is “relieved he’s not gay”, but this begs the question: how does he know that just from the fact that his son targeted gays?
This type of behavior has been associated with self loathing attempts to deny one’s own homosexuality.
J Edgar Hoover may be the most infamous example.
Hate to tell you that “porn star” and Mormon aren’t compatible. Just because this creep is in records for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does NOT mean he is a practicing member. The LDS Church came out with a statement against this murderer.
It only highlights that he’s a fake Christian.
Doesn’t matter what church he belongs to (or once belonged to).
That purported “connection” made me crack up. They might as well have called him a reasonable Republican! Another extinct. On another note, it is interesting how virtually all people will agree with TOW and LDS on this. Would they do the same for one characterized as Muslim?
I would certainly hope so, and the LDS church has made several public statements supporting immigrants and Muslims and refuting Trump in the last several years.
And yet Republicans:
1) Refuse to denounce a person like this and tell them don’t use the word “republican” in your rants – you are not one of us”
2) Would not pass a “red flag” law to keep a person like this from owning guns
Before his “15 minutes” are up, he’ll probably get to be a guest on FOX and a guest to a dinner at Mara Lago without being screened
A Morman and porn star. Should we call it cognitive dissonance or moral failure or perhaps both? It’s no wonder his son is messed up and violent.
It’s called “godnitive dissonance.”
Not that it really surprises me.
The only thing I wonder about is whether it included any gay porn.
Though I will leave that determination as an exorcise for the reader.
It appears that a man with the credentials listed below was given authority to spend in excess of $1 mil. to fund national ads against LGBTQ.
He (1) founded a religious K-12 school (2) led a state rightwing public policy foundation ( linked to Koch?) and (3) was president of a small religious college which, reportedly, has fewer than 200 students enrolled.
In other news, Donald Trump had dinner with a couple bigots. Golly gee willikers. What a surprise.
My first thought when the shooter declared himself to be nonbinary is that he was being counseled to do this as a part of an insanity defense.
&–am I misunderstanding the definition of “non-binary?” “Wikipedia: “Non-binary or genderqueer is an umbrella term for gender identities that are not solely male or female–identities that are outside the gender binary.” So, being non-binary (shooter has requested to be referred to as they/them–non-binary–so wouldn’t the shooter be part of their target’s population? Knowing (just from the msm, mind you) what we know about them: a past of bullying, teasing on social media, during school years, it appears to me that the shooter is a self-loathing individual who totally lacked family support/love &, thus, finally imploded/exploded, much like all the other young shooters, purposely picking the LGBTQ nightclub.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind people to remind the msm to go to nonotorierty.com & urge the msm to STOP naming these shooters.
While there is NOTHING–not one damn thing–that ameliorates what happened in Uvalde, due to the escapades of the Keystone Kops there, Uvalde shooter’s name has not been mentioned repeatedly, if even several times. I cannot even remember it…can any of you?
(& he was one of those who’s said that people were going to remember him.)
Retired, your analysis is right on.
Nope. That’s what it means.
Moral laws like those DeSantis is attempting to create in Florida are hazards that will drive those trying to sort out gender issues underground. This has the potential for greater anger and perhaps more self-loathing among these vulnerable people. Nobody wins when a particular group is deemed a pariah. So-called freedom should be about “live and let live” instead of hate and violence.
I can’t remember any of these shooters names except the Colombine kids.
One thing to keep in mind is that we don’t actually know for sure whether this guy’s motivation was to kill people because they were gay. It would obviously not be a surprise in any way, given what we know so far. But the Pulse shooting in Florida initially seemed like it was obviously motivated by anti-gay animus, and it turned out that likely wasn’t the case.
Doesn’t matter for the people he killed or their families, of course.
Murder is murder, regardless of motivation. I personally believe that people should be punished for what they do, not what they think.
Since the killer says he is “non-binary” and wants to referred to as “they,” I assume he is a self-loathing homosexual. But it doesn’t matter. What matters is that he murdered five people.
Just watching the Chicago local news, & a shout-out to the suburb of Lincolnwood Library System–to the Board & the Library Director, all of whom made a statement against censorship, refusing a few patrons’ requests to remove books (one being “The Hips on the Drag Queens Go Swish, Swish, Swish”). Hence, the patron(s) repealed their censorship request & went home.
In a further example of how far off the ledge our society has become, Pray Away the Gay has been replaced for some by Slay Away the Gay. The ever-rising extremism among a significant minority of Americans will become more and more violent. Their goal is an actual, hot civil war to “sanitize” the population of “the other,” whether they be LGBT, the libs, “the Blacks”, on anyone who would dare stand up for them. Remember, one of the key goals of fascist rule is to make violence a legally sanctioned first-choice public policy. Diplomacy is only a tool to be used to consolidate power.
From Pray to Prey”
What would Jesus really say?
When gay become the prayer’s prey?
When efforts to pray away the gay
To acts to slay the gay give way?
The main reason that I mentioned the shooter identifies as non-binary was in answer to the extreme ignorance of his father’s statement.
The term “father,” here, meaning biological only. Pretty certain that this poor excuse for a human being has been watching World Soccer more closely (& w/greater interest) than he ever watched his offspring.
A friend of mine who writes volumes of letters to the editor (because, eventually, one is published, which happened today), included an article from The Philadelphia Inquirer in his email to us. Someone from a beleaguered part of town in PA, perhaps in Philly proper–Kensington (maybe a reader knows & can clarify?), had written a letter to The P.I., & included this short, sad quote from a neighborhood resident in the aftermath of a shooting:
“‘Everyone out here is just a moment away from completely losing it,’ one man told me.”
