I want to extend my sincere regrets for the trauma you have been through this past week. I hope emerged safely and with minimal damage to your homes. I have a brother in South Florida, who missed the worst of it, and a sister in North Florida who luckily had a long-planned trip to California to see a new grandson.
It’s not much consolation, but at times like this you have to be grateful to have gotten through this ordeal. Things can be replaced, not lives.
People across the country are watching and wishing only the best for you. When disaster strikes, we come together as neighbors and friends to extend a helping hand. This spirit of friendship, compassion, and good will should always be with us.
Politics divides us. Tragedy brings us together, and we remember the better angels of our nature.

Agree. We are one, one of many. E pluribus unum. We are together. I am with you, Diane. I am with you, Florida.

My wish would be that the patience and compassion with each other, the sense of urgency to solve real problems, and empathy that tragedies like this create could be translated into politics, policy, and everyday life.

On Tuesday morning I read the 11:16 NOAA report. It had the eye of the hurricane coming right over me and my son (I am in St. Petersburg) and an 8-ft storm surge here. Wind was supposed to be 135 mph. The consequences for my area were described as potentially “devastating and catastrophic.” I had already done some prep. I grabbed artwork and instruments and fled to higher ground. Returned today to find the siding ripped off my building and a bunch of palm fronds down but no water damage or destruction to my place or belongings. Can’t say the same for my unfortunate neighbors down in Fort Myers or Cuba, who took direct hits. The storm veered South before striking land in Florida. I was lucky. These others were not. If you can assist them in any way, please do.

Glad you found a safe place to weather the storm.

Bob,
I’m so relieved that you were spared. And so sad for those who were not. I know that FEMA and President Biden will rush emergency aid, and DeSantis will take credit for whatever Biden does.

LOL. Yes. Inevitable. Ron looked like a deer in the headlights at the beginning of this. It’s a time when people can easily make missteps that are completely derailing.

Off topic. The political hurricane surrounding three proposed Hillsdale Classical Charters just led Hillsdale to withdraw.
