A reader sent this Wikipedia description of Senator Scott, who is apparently interested in winning the support of the far-right faction of the Republican Party in 2024, which has no scruples:
In 1987, after serving in the United States Navy and becoming a law firm partner, he co-founded Columbia Hospital Corporation. Columbia later merged with another corporation to form Columbia/HCA, which eventually became the nation’s largest private for-profit health care company.[6] Scott was pressured to resign as chief executive of Columbia/HCA in 1997. During his tenure as chief executive, the company defrauded Medicare, Medicaid and other federal programs. The Department of Justice ultimately fined the company $1.7 billion in what was at the time the largest health care fraud settlement in U.S. history.[7][8]
Little-known fact: His first language was Parseltongue.

Stellar qualifications for getting oneself elected a governor, then a U.S. senator. I rue having wasted my political potential by not fleecing my federal government out of more than a billion dollars.
Don’t feel bad, Bill, about this missed opportunity. Sure, having missed your shot at illicit billions, you won’t receive the Repugnican nomination of president of the United States, but you can still go into becoming a meretricious education shill for the Gates and Walton Foundations, which is also fairly lucrative. To learn how, just sent a 12-inch stack of hundred-dollar bills to my account in the Caymans, and I’ll send you my illustrated, step-by-step guide, Becoming an InstaEduPundit, and throw in a copy of Running a Charter School RICO absolutely free!
I guess he paid the fine to avoid jail time?
Failing up!…happens all the time to those with $$$$$.
It’s the American way. Just ask Don the Con, aka The Teflon Don 2.0, aka The Don, Cheeto “Littlefingers” Trumpbalone about how to avoid going to prison after systematically barring black people from rental units you own and running fake charities and universities.
Corporate Parseltongue.
A cunning linguist, he is also proficient in Newspeak and Jingoism.
During his terms as governor he refused to expand Medicaid under the ACA. It would have cost the state very little, and it would have saved many lives.
RT, please. What’s the big deal? These were lives of little people.
And all his elections were shady wins. From Ballotpedia: In the 2018 election, Scott defeated incumbent Bill Nelson (D) by about 0.2 percentage points. Nelson had served in the Senate since 2000.
am adding this: 10,033 votes out of more than 8.1 million cast statewide.
From Sun Sentinel: https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/politics/fl-ne-bill-nelson-rick-scott-broward-ballot-design-20190711-deqpxqouwrggtgps6jmqdoezw4-story.html
“Bad ballot design in Broward County cost Bill Nelson 9,658 votes in ultra-tight loss to Rick Scott”
Before his election to the Senate, Scott served as governor of Florida from 2011 to 2019. In 2010, Scott defeated Alex Sink (D) by 1.2 percentage points after winning a competitive Republican primary against Attorney General Bill McCollum by about 3 percentage points. In 2014, Scott was re-elected by 1 percentage point over former Gov. Charlie Crist, who switched to the Democratic Party even though he had been a Republican while in office.
Been living in Florida since 1979, coming from Chicago. With all of the mostly educated, mostly liberals who move here from northern states, I don’t know what it’s going to take to enlighten the majority of yahoos living in this state that Republicans like Rick Scott, Marco Rubio & Ron DeSantis, who care nothing for the average working stiff, are not good for the improvement of their lives. These phonies & con-men just put all their efforts into scaring moms & pops with social issues & keeping us divided & distracted over those issues, instead of truly beneficial things for us average folks, like healthcare, education & true equality. As a life-long HS educator, the widespread ignorance of the populace is mind-numbingly frustrating!!!
My cousins were raised in Florida long before you got there. Their view is that in-migration, not homegrown stagnation, is to blame for the lurch to the right.
I do not know. In-migration to Tennessee doomed Albert Gore, who saw the handwriting o the wall and took the VP job with Clinton back in 1992. At that time, in-migration had just begun in Tennessee. Florida, on the other hand, was the destination long before that.
Thank you, love2teach!
People, ordinary American taxpayers that Scott ripped off for $$ billions, voted for him? What is it with Republican voters that they love conmen?
It is apparent that Rick Scott is in bad company along with Abbot and DeSantis, all competing to step into Traitor Trump’s tiny little shoes.
Birds of a feather flock together and Abbot, DeSantis and Scott are nipping at the traitor’s heals and making deals with the devil to end up leading the fascist faction of the Republican Party.
I wonder how accurate “there is no honor among crooks” is.
In the world of Trumpist morality cheating and lying to make a buck is smart and admirable.
Well, yes, I recall Trump saying that dodging taxes was “smart.”
All the successful businessmen that I know say the same thing. One is considered a fool if one doesn’t cheat on taxes.
