I am pleased to report that I was selected as ”Global Guru #1” by an organization that selects “global gurus” in different fields. I am happy to see my friends Deborah Meier, Andy Hargreaves, and Pasi Sahlberg on the same list. I’m honored to be in the company of such distinguished educators. In case you read the bio, there are two updates. I retired from active service at New York University on September 1, 2020. And the blog has received more than 39 million page views (not 32) since it started in 2012.
Congratulations, Diane. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you for ALL that you do.
We’ll deserved!
since I know you and the 3 you mention, glad to see all of you recognized
When will we see a picture with a turban and a lotus position.
And levitating?
Any guru worth his or her salt can levitate.
Yup. That’s why I absolutely refuse to do it anymore.
Nice pic. I come to you for advice
I’m working on that turban thing.
I want to see that!!!
Roy, I got the guru look on Twitter by the creative “Coop Mike,” but no turban: https://t.co/dYvFvMGwiX
Kudos to you for your many accomplishments. Although it is not mentioned in the biography, you should be extolled, not just for your scholarship, but for your activism as well. Being a founding member of the Network for Public Education is an important accomplishment. With a network of state grassroots organizations, it is one of the most reliable ways supporters of public education can access facts, not misinformation, about public education. NPE is an important organization as it seeks to tell the truth about privatization and the campaign to dismantle public education.
A well-deserved honor, congratulations and thank you so much for all your advocacy for the real public schools!
Kudos to da Guru

Congrats, Diane! Well deserved!
Congratulations and thank you for writing this blog!
Reprising this post from my blog, written back in 2017, on the occasion of this award:
Our Boadicea, Our Jeanne d’Arc, Is a 79-year-old Grandmother, an Existence Proof of the Stupidity of Ageism
On this Labor Day, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the Herculean labors of Diane Ravitch. Dr. Ravitch has for many years now been the most significant force for sanity in all of U.S. K-12 education. Day in and day out, she indefatigably calls out the charlatans and grifters on the education carnival midway and fights to protect our most important institution, our public schools. In addition to being our foremost historian of education, she has also become our premier muckraker–the Ambrose Bierce, Ida B. Wells, Ida Tarbell, Lincoln Steffens, Nelly Bly, and Upton Sinclair of our age. God bless her. My admiration and respect for this brilliant, fierce, relentless fighter for justice and equity in U.S. education, for our Boadicea, our Jeanne d’Arc, knows no bounds.
I am disappointed that Master Bob did not make the cut.
A major oversight, for sure.
Enlightened Master Bob was voted sexiest guru by the Galactic Federation just this last Thors-daeg!
Thank you for being and doing. Doesn’t that sound guru like?
HAAA! Yes. Perfect.
Guru Ravitch

Thank you, Poet.
Off topic reminder that New York continues to require masking of toddlers in daycare while its elected leaders party like its 2019.
Gurus wear masks too, even when they are levitating.
A guru is a teacher. How apropos, Diane. You are in fact the highest guru teacher. You have levitated all the public schools in the country —from this living room. I’d say that’s pretty guruvy.
In closing, from the Bhavagad Gita, Diane,
“Delusion lost and wisdom gained
by your grace”.
Jaima!!!
Jai ma!
Yes, Flerp, there are people who stupidly put themselves and others at risk by gathering maskless in public places, like restaurants and classrooms.
Oddly I don’t hear much outrage about the restaurant part.
I don’t recall much outrage from anyone who wears a mask and doesn’t have a problem with a little piece of paper on his or her nose. Just sighs of disbelief. Well, hopefully we can all hang in there cautiously for just another few weeks and it will all be water under the bridge. Then we can go back to arguing about more serious matters such as the dangers of wearing baseball caps backwards and chewing gum.
ROFLMAO!!!
The mask mandate is also still in place for mass transit. Also in nursing homes. Also in hospitals!
Anyone but flerp see a pattern? Like there are some places with huge numbers of unvaccinated and vulnerable children MUST attend. Like there are some places that adults MUST use — they aren’t optional places where those who want to avoid exposure can avoid.
Manufactured outrage. People who don’t even have young children are angry but parents with kids in preschool aren’t nearly as angry.
Congrats!
Congratuations!!! And thank you for this blog.
🎉 CONGRATULATIONS!🎉
Felicidades
Congratulations, Diane, and thanks for all you do!
Such a well-deserved honor! Congratulations and thank you.
