A fitting ending to four years of the worst president in American history.
It felt as though it would never be over. Our long national nightmare has come to an end (to repeat a
But it did! Proving that all bad things must finally come to an end.
Now we await the trials and prosecutions. First, the Senate. Then the trials in New York City and New York State. Maybe one in Atlanta for election tampering.
Justice and accountability must be served.
My hunch: when the insider accounts are published, we will learn that he had no interest in governing or policy. He just liked the trappings of power. He liked winning. He liked being saluted. We will learn why he was obsequious to Putin. His tax returns will become public.
Now go watch the Inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris. They have a big task ahead cleaning up the mess that Trump left behind. Our nation will once again have a chance of living up to its lofty ideals, abandoned for four horrible years.
Congratulations to the new President and Vice-President!

The trappings of power were/are fascism for him. That is not to be minimized by his narcissism with grandiosity (as “diagnosed” by psychiatry). His broken mental state and terrible weaknesses led him to be an active leader and participant in a terrible, night-mare like system.

Randy Rainbow should be groveling at Trump’s feet. Trump has been his bread and butter for four years (and the reason anyone besides his mother knows who he is). What on earth is he going to sing about now? How many variations of “Kamala!” to the tune of “Camelot” can we bear?

We will leave that to you.
Randy Rainbow will never run out of material.
Trump was a rich lode for him because we have never had a president who was so vicious, selfish, indifferent, ignorant, and narcissistic.

The idea of governing was always a nuisance to him. His “put a band aid on it” approach demonstrated his laziness and disinterest in being presidential. When called out, and demanded to show signs of presidential ability, he became hostile and aggressive, perhaps a self-recognition of his ineptitude. He was the president only for the cameras and mirrors, for his family and friends, for everything began with Donald Trump and ended with him.
A human being with a conscience, with a duty, and with compassion for others would put the nation first. His cowardice and narcissism made him the “victim” every time he was asked to demonstrate qualities he simply did not have, nor did he ever have the interest to.
In just the past year, as the virus has had such a devastating toll on our nation, his passion was never to protect our lives, but was unfortunately highlighted by his cries of a false claim of a stolen election. As death rates toggled between hundreds and thousands each day, the only thing that really mattered to him was winning an election. His ability to manipulate social media, spreading anger among those who would listen to him, while dividing the people, were the only way for him to hold onto the office. Democracy was a burden for him, and the idea of rule was more appealing than the idea of governing.
For Trump, the buck never stopped with him, but with everyone else. A house divided was the only way to win an election. And ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your leader.

Trump never expressed sorrow for the 400,000 who died. He didn’t care when his own brother died. He is a heartless narcissist.

I liked Peter Greene’s send off of trump, “What Donald Trump Means To Me” on the Curmudgucation blog and I sincerely I hope reading it was the last time I will ever think about Donald Trump. Today is a new day and I have work to do. We have work to do.

Comic writers, satirists and performers were essential to keeping what little sanity we could keep over the past five years. Randy, Andy Borowitz, political cartoonists everywhere, Seth Meyers, Jordan Klepper, Jonathan Pie, Brett Terhune, Louis Black, Chris Rock, and SNL helped me a great deal. There are so many more. I thank them all.
I have a book of jokes that circulated among the people during the Third Reich, the tellers of some ended up in concentration camps. Thank goodness we avoided that scenario, however close we may have come.

Well, this is a very moving moment for me personally, as it doubtless is for you. For the past four years, I have been under a magic spell that required me to write denunciations and parodies of He Who Shall Not Be Named at least three times per day.
Oh! Sweet Freedom!

From my friend Paola: “One speech and that man [Biden] makes me, as a person of color, feel as though I am part of this country again. I’m feeling a relief from the weight of the last four years with the evil man.”
From my friend Krystal: “I am emotionally exhausted as well. Even if I wasn’t reading about it [him], I couldn’t stop thinking about it [him]. I think this is because our souls wanted so badly to fix things. I know I have assignments coming up [Krystal is a student], but I have time to breathe a bit, and I think I’ll do that today. I no longer feel like I’m in emergency mode, if that makes any sense.”

If you liked this one, another video worth watching is a clip of James Corden on last night’s “The Late, Late Show” doing a “One Day More” (from Les Misérables) parody.
I’ve seen many parodies of this song from Les Mis (there was a fine won done in 2008 with young Obama campaign workers), but the one from last night was quite clever, especially in the COVID era.
And, for those familiar with the Broadway musical (or at least the movie version), the portrayal of the husband and wife innkeepers (made famous in the “Master of the House” song) is spot on.
I can’t post links here, but easy to google — search “James Corden and One Day More.”

I wish the nightmare were over. Trump’s legacy lives on in so many people. Big task ahead is the understatement of the day. We will have to wait and see how many Republicans will become statesmen rather than politicians and work to save the country. Time will tell. Biden nor anyone else as president can do it by himself. 7 million people put him in office. Now they need to back him against the dark forces which face us.
