Wednesday morning from 8 a.m. to 8:30, somewhere in that time slot, I will be on “Democracy Now” with Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez. We will be discussing the new Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.
I hope you can watch. We will be on Skype, so you can see my home office!
Terrific.
Looking forward to it!
“we went from $3.4 trillion, to $2.2 trillion, to $1.8 trillion from Trump and $1.1 trillion from Mitch McConnell to just $348 billion in new money—roughly 10% of what Democrats thought was originally needed and half of what Trump and McConnell offered in direct payments.”
“This is not good negotiating,” the senator said. “This is a collapse.”
— Bernie Sanders about the “brilliant” negotiating of Democratic “leaders” in Congress for coronavirus relief.
Such negotiating would make even Obama proud.
Democratic Negotiating
They give away the farm
And cows and pigs as well
You needn’t twist their arm
They twist it by themselves
They are not farmers.

“As pain and suffering is crescendoing across the country, Biden refrained from aggressively pushing the bipartisan initiative for $1,200 survival checks. Indeed, at a time when there was a legitimate chance to flip some Republicans — including Donald Trump! — against McConnell and push for a more robust stimulus, he demurred.
However, the New York Times reminds us today that Biden was “not an idle bystander in the negotiations.” On the contrary, the paper of record tells us that the president-elect played a decisive role in making sure the legislation was cut in half. Here is the key excerpt:
Biden wanted to see an aid package now, regardless of its size, because people are suffering. He promised more later, when he is in office.
Dems had lots of time before the election when they could have made a much better deal, but they did not want to for fear of giving Trump a win.
Bernie Sanders knows what he is taking about.
Are you quoting Bernie from weeks ago?
He signaled his support for the relief bill.
One of the problems was that neither Bernie nor most democrats was willing to give away the farm to Republicans to get $1,200 for individuals.
What good is it to give $1,200 checks if the people who don’t need it are getting billions?
What would you support the democrats giving away to people who don’t need it to get $1,200 to everyone?
I really want to know. Because there is always a trade off. Right now, getting a smaller check with the ability to have a BETTER negotiation in January might be better than giving away another $2 billion to people who don’t need it to get $1,200 to people who do right away. I don’t know. But I do know that without the Democrats controlling the House, Senate and Presidency, the only possibilities are to settle for something that rewards people who the Republicans want to help, or nothing, or a compromise.

Amy Goodman AND Diane Ravitch!!!! What a Christmas treat!!!!! xoxoxoxoxox
You handled the interview better than I would have done, Diane. I was pleased with some, but not all, of the questions. And like I said before, now that’s a bookshelf!
LCT,
Thanks for buying the 5-foot shelf and enabling me to have more space.
I love Juan but he used up a lot of time enthusing about Miguel being Puerto Rican.
I do, too, & wasn’t pleased about that. But, otherwise, it was a great interview & you sandwiched in so many vital points & facts in the time you were allotted (I think they should have given you the whole hour, given the importance & urgency of the topic). Thank you, & I hope 2021 will bring an entire hour. Would like to see you, Jitu Brown, Carol Burris Jesse Hagopian, Yong Zhao, others &, of course, Todd Farley!
We don’t have that position. And he isn’t born here or his and kamellas parents.Which makes both unqualified. Good.just confims my thoughts of u and site. Racistb and liars
