The Washington Post reported that top Republicans refuse to acknowledge or accept Biden’s election victory. Trump has posted defiant tweets, attacking the election. They are still cowering before Trump, who tweeted at 4:54 pm:
“71,000,000 Legal Votes. The most EVER for a sitting President!” Does he not know that Biden has 279 electoral college votes as well as 74,300,000 legal votes? Does he want a prize for second place?
Top congressional Republicans declined to offer congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden, or even comment on his win, as the White House and its GOP allies remained defiant that the race isn’t over for President Trump.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) were silent with no plans to issue any statement Saturday about the race, according to GOP aides speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the leaders’ plans.
Meanwhile, Trump’s staunchest allies vowed to fight on, adopting the president’s baseless claims that voter fraud corrupted the results. Ronna McDaniel, the Republican National Committee chairwoman, made this the official position of the party, calling any results premature and saying that the election wasn’t over until “any investigations of irregularities or fraud play out.”

Reminds me of the time Goliath refused to congratulate David.

I think Trump’s lies/propaganda is designed for what’s coming next. The court cases are a three-ring circus, a diversion.
The Electoral College votes in mid December and that is when Trump will make his biggest move.
Trump is counting on his GOP loyalists to become Faithless Electors and cast their votes for him and not Biden in defiance of states’ laws.
All Trump needs is a little more than 30 Faithless Electors to cast their votes for him instead of Biden. Trump will claim victory.
Then it will be up to those states to correct the Faithless Electors, but if those GOP controlled states that Biden flipped do nothing and those votes stand, what will happen next?
There will be a Civil War as blue states protest and leave the union, and the voters that voted against Trump take to the streets. Trump will send in his AR-15 armed MAGA hats (brown shirts) to shoot the protestors and then all hell will break loose with cities burning.

This is reassuring to know. If Trump and Republicans refuse to follow the electoral process, they would be a rogue bunch of thugs.

I think Trump’s hope is not to appeal to faithless electors, but to try to persuade Republican legislatures that the election was so flawed that they should throw out the results and choose their own set of electors. The Leg. In PA is controlled by Republicans. I have no idea if that’s legally possible but that’s what he hopes for.

More likely to refuse to certify the election and send no electors, in Penn the elections commission will certify in about ten days … w/o active litigation, unlikely, of course 4 justices could force SCOTUS to hear appeals …

True, but the people will.
All these possibilities with the electors also indicate that the Electoral College needs to go, and we have to rely on popular vote.

Trump is all about the Trump brand. From this point forward it is “show” for his future TV fans. The circus metaphor and suckers born every minute is apt.
Something that I think has been overlooked in the joy of this day, is that with the COVID-19 crisis, this election (I suspect) saw a significant drop in the use of voting machines as voters flocked to stay away from the polling stations and instead voted by mail on paper ballots.
More paper ballots = fewer electonic ones = less opportunity to cheat.
Time for a national vote-by-mail referendum (among many other improvements!)

Are people not wearing masks there? I rarely see people in crowds unmasked where I am, but haven’t been to Times Square gatherings.

First , masks are nowhere near 100% effect in preventing transmission of the virus. That’s why when you go out in public , you are supposed to maintain a distance of 6 feet.
If you watch videos of some of the celebration rallies, you can see that many people not only do not keep the 6 foot distance, but some also do not wear a mask.
And it does not take many infected people without masks in very large crowds with people close together to spread the virus far and wide because (did I mention?) masks are nowhere near 100% protective.
Anyone who was paying any attention at all Would know that the virus is out of control in this country and that many places are now experiencing a second wave — and, in places that have not, large gatherings just increase the probability.
And by the way, I have no interest getting into a “debate” with someone who thinks large gatherings where people are one on top of another don’t spread the virus as long as most people are wearing a mask.
So you can save e your breath.

What worries me most is that these people who are celebrating carelessly all voted for Biden, so we may lose voters for 2024. The number could be significant, since these people go home and infect others who infect others…

He’ll even get closer to 80 million than 70 million: in CA he got 8 million so far, but 20+% of the votes are still uncounted, so Biden will get 2 million more minimum, that’s 76 million. Then in NY,he’ll get another million, etc, so he may end up with 78 million votes. Unless they stop the counting for whatever reason.

Yeah, in MD Biden will still get 400K votes. So the final count could be like 78 million vs 72 million.

And this 6 million difference would mean 4% difference in votes relative to the total votes. So the polls were not “that” bad. The vote appeared closer only because the mailin votes come in later, and the most of those are democrats.
All this with 60% voter turnout. Very impressive.

I fear that Republicans will offer a handsome bounty to any poll worker who concocts a voting story that might be of use in the lawsuits. So far the legal challenges from Trump lawyers have not produced the results he wants.
There are huge stakes in the Georgia runoff races for the Senate–literally control of the Senate with Kamila Harris the tiebreaker. The work Biden can do hinges on that race.

OK, so Fox found its voice, and they have started the propaganda which will convince their viewership that there was a massive voter fraud in multiple states and in multiple ways. The main thing they claim is that republican observers were not allowed to observe.
They are doing a very good job. They claim and claim in such a way that they hint, they have a huge pile of evidence. They get all the leading conservative politicians like Giuliani, Cruise, house minority leader state the same thing with conviction.

More voters than registered. Dead people voting. Law suits pending and recounts. You people are just evil! It took Gore 37 days to concede. Trump has every right to pursue every Avenue.
