A friend sharedthis article about Kamala Harris that shows her at ease. The first video is hilarious. She is at the 92nd Street Y, an institution of Jewish culture in Manhattan, which has a great lecture series. She tells a story about her first meeting with her Jewish mother-in-law that is priceless.
Another video in the article shows her cooking at home with her husband. She has a great laugh. She is interesting. She will bring dynamism to the campaign and fresh ideas.
And here is Kamala cooking Indian food. Watch her deftly cut an onion.
I’m struck by how comfortable she is in front of a camera, how heartily she laughs. She is charismatic. Trump has already attacked her as “radical left,” which is funny since he twice donated to her campaigns. Overnight he attacked the Biden-Harris ticket as racist. I wish I could have seen her laugh when she heard that.
I’m thrilled that Joe Biden picked Senator Harris as his running mate. She is a great addition to the ticket.
Can’t wait to see her debate Mike Pence, that is, if Mother (Pence’s wife) allows him to share the stage with a woman. Harris was a member of the debate team when she was a student at Howard University.

Thoughts and prayers for debater Mike Pence.

I must say that his skill as a dissembler is first-rate, which makes him a different kind of dangerous, of course, than is the delusional madman whom he follows with breathtakingly embarrassing sycophancy. Fortunately, Senator Harris took him in stride, and her facial expressions alone were sufficient to show how sane people thought about what they heard from Mikey.

But clearly, the Biden/Harris team decided that the wise thing was Senator Harris to leave her prosecutorial rapier at home for this contest so that she wouldn’t come off as one of those “aggressive women” of the antifeminist stereotypes still so prevalent in the U.S. I suppose that, alas, this was a smart move, for there are still far too many Americans who freak out when a woman takes a strong stand.

I hope they go after Sen Harris with all cylinders firing. She is the Affirmative Action hire—the token that Martin Luther King in part marched against–and some actually demanded it! She was hailed as an Indian American when she entered the Senate now, she is African American with 1/4 of her heritage coming from Jamaca. This is so sexist and racist! Sen. Harris is no affirmative action hire. That’s racist to say so. She’s articulate, brilliant, and highly accomplished. She’s a lot more intelligent than Trump or Pence. This is an interesting article. dienne77, I hope you are listening to this writer and also Shaun King who both have made it clear that anyone who isn’t a racist must vote for Biden/Harris.
By the way, the Guardian headline (intentionally?) misquotes the writer, Derecka Purnell, who clearly admires Kamala Harris and plans to vote for her. She says that Black women MIGHT be torn because they so admire Kamala Harris and Kamala is very qualified to be VP and the author is worried about how the right wing attacks on Kamala being too progressive will affect her.
Everyone who cares about racism, criminal justice, or any progressive idea would vote for Kamala Harris to insure racist, neofascists like Trump and Pence do not get re-elected.
It would take the twisted logic of a right wing Trump supporter to say “Pence says Kamala is too progressive, therefore I’m worried she will react by being less progressive, thus it is better that Pence and Trump win!”
That is certainly NOT what Derecka Purnell says in this article that praises Kamala Harris. I am certain that no true progressive except the ones who still wish they could enroll at Trump University to get rich would fall for what Pence and Trump want them to do and make sure to re-elect Trump/Pence to “save” Black women from the evil Kamala Harris.
Derecka Purnell clearly likes Kamala Harris and will vote for her. If a few misguided white progressives read only the misleading Guardian headline and use it to falsly claim their work to defeat Kamala Harris and empower Trump and Pence is really just doing a big favor for Black women, then those white folks are clearly quite racist themselves, even if they won’t admit it.
I believe Shaun King and Derecka Purnell about Kamala (which makes me like her more than I originally did) and not what a white person tells me about Kamala.
I also love how Kamala Harris has defended young progressives and legitimized their views instead of attacking them or undermining them. She will be a very good VP for progressives, and if some of them believe Pence or white democrat haters over Shaun King and think Kamala is as right wing as Barr, then their biases speak for themselves.

Look at the comments here as an example. The idea of falsely presenting Biden/Harris as right wingers who are no better than the neo-fascist Republicans serves one purpose only — to normalize a far right wing neo-Fascist Republican party. As we know, those lies about the democrats do absolutely nothing for the progressive movement but they did completelyt empower the far right Republican party to a degree that harms the chances of progressive legislation ever happening.

VP pick Kamala Harris clashed with Biden on school desegregation, pushed for teacher pay hike
By Matt Barnum Aug 11, 2020, 5:11pm EDT
Former Vice President Joe Biden announced California Sen. Kamala Harris as his vice presidential pick on Tuesday. Harris’ own primary campaign was defined in part by education issues, including an extended clash with Biden on school segregation and a proposal to substantially raise teacher pay.
The choice could bring additional attention to those education policy issues, and her views on schools could have broader influence if Biden reaches the White House.
Perhaps the highest-profile moment of Harris’ presidential primary campaign came in a June 2019 debate clash with Biden. “There was a little girl in California who was a part of the second class to integrate her public schools and she was bused to school every day. That little girl was me,” Harris said, referring to Biden’s opposition to court-ordered busing for school desegregation.
The comments quickly thrust school segregation into the center of the national conversation. And in their next debate, Harris reiterated her criticism of Biden.
“Had I been in the United States Senate at that time, I would’ve been completely on the other side of the aisle, and let’s be clear about this: had those segregationists their way, I would not be a member of the United States Senate,” she said. “So on that issue, we could not be more apart.”
Notably, though, Harris herself did not detail or stake out an aggressive position on how to integrate America’s schools, which remain highly segregated by race and socioeconomic status. “Senator Harris supports federal measures to increase school diversity, including resources for busing,” her campaign told Chalkbeat at the time.
That mirrors Biden’s current platform, which promises that as president he would “provide grants to school districts to create plans and implement strategies to diversify their schools.”
Meanwhile, one of Harris’ signature proposals as a candidate was to pay teachers more. She issued a plan to make teachers salaries commensurate with similarly educated professionals, which would be an average of a $13,500 raise. The idea came with a hefty price tag, but many experts said it could help attract and retain high-quality teachers.
“It isn’t enough to just say our teachers shape the future of our country. We should pay them like it,” Harris said at the time. “It’s past time we value and respect their work, compassion, and dedication to our kids.”
Her then-campaign rivals, including Biden, would almost uniformly follow suit in calling for a greater investment in public schools, including by raising teacher salaries. Biden’s platform calls for tripling Title I funding and requiring some of those dollars to go to increasing teacher pay.
On the hot-button issue of charter schools, Harris largely steered clear, not staking out a clear position during the campaign. Biden has said that he will seek to ban for-profit charter schools, but has not said he will seek to stop all charter growth. The topic has divided Democratic voters and presidential candidates.
Harris has faced criticism for one education-related element of her record. When Harris was San Francisco District Attorney, she issued citations to parents of truant students, and she went on to back a law making a students’ chronic truancy a misdemeanor for their parents. On the presidential campaign trail, she said she regretted the consequences of the policy.
Claire Bryan contributed reporting.

Harris has advocated for increased school funding in her home state of California. As a prosecutor, Harris launched an initiative to prosecute parents of truant students. She initially defended the initiative against criticism that it disproportionately affected poor families, but later said she regretted the “unintended consequences” of the policy.
In 2016, Harris, then California attorney general, won a multi-million dollar settlement against the for-profit charter operator K12 Inc over “alleged violations of California’s false claims, false advertising and unfair competition laws.” An investigation launched by the attorney general’s office under Harris paved the way for a school desegregation order in a district just outside San Francisco.
In Congress, Harris cosponsored legislation that would offer money and incentives for states to expand access to preschool for 3- and 4-year-olds.
Harris dropped out of the race in December 2019 and endorsed Joe Biden.
College costs
Harris told the Washington Post she supports free community college and four years of debt-free public college.
Harris proposed a $50 billion fund for scholarships, research grants, and fellowships at HBCUs.
Education secretary
At the NEA forum in July 2019, Harris said she would appoint an education secretary with experience as a public school teacher, and that the NEA “will be at the table to help me make that decision.”
Funding
Harris supports increasing Title I funding, changing the Title I formula to be “more equitable,” and incentivizing states to increase spending on schools.
Harris said she would work to cut child poverty by 50% in her first term. Her proposed strategies include expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit and boosting food stamp benefits for children.
In November 2019, Harris proposed offering federal funds to encourage schools to add after-school programming to accommodate working families’ schedules.
School discipline
In her criminal justice plan, Harris said she would spend money to help states “hold schools accountable for discriminatory practices” related to school suspensions and expulsions. She also said she would reinstate the school discipline guidance rescinded by the Trump administration.
Segregation
At the first round of debates held in June 2019, Harris questioned Biden’s past opposition to school busing programs for desegregation. “There was a little girl in California who was a part of the second class to integrate her public schools and she was bused to school every day. That little girl was me,” she said.
After sparring with Biden, Harris gave a variety of answers to questions about whether she would support federally mandated busing for desegregation purposes today. She eventually said she would support it in situations where local districts were impeding integration efforts, but added: “Today it is very rare that we require the courts or the federal government to intervene.”
Supporters
Harris’ campaign drew support from prominent education reform funders Eli and Edythe Broad, as well as Laurene Powell Jobs.
Teacher diversity
Harris proposed investing $2.5 billion in teacher training programs at HBCUs as a strategy to produce more black teachers.
Teacher pay
Harris proposed using federal funding to boost American teachers’ salaries by an average of $13,500. Her campaign described the plan as “the largest federal investment in teacher pay in history.”
Teachers unions
In January 2019, Harris tweeted her support for striking teachers in Los Angeles.

Here is what MICHAEL MOORE said:
“Kamala Harris! Biden could’ve swung right (Susan Rice), but he swung left. Kamala is one of the most progressive Senators in the US Senate and will, as Shaun King says, be the most progressive Vice President in the history of the United States. She is and remains one of the first co-sponsors of Bernie’s Medicare for All bill. In fact, go down the list — she checks nearly every box on Bernie’s platform: Living Wage, Choice, LGBTQ+ equality, peace, child care, etc. It says a lot about Biden that after she rightly confronted him about race in that first debate that he held no grudge, no animosity. In fact, he might say it gave him pause and a chance to consider how his friendship with segregationist Senators might have been hurtful to people of color and that, even at this age, he can change, he can do better. As progressives, isn’t that at the core of what we stand for? Isn’t that the change we are fighting for? Our belief that America can do better and that our fellow Americans will join us in this movement for a more just and equitable society? Kamala Harris is one more step in that direction. I’ve met her a few times and I can tell you (and you know I won’t BS you on this because I pretty much despise all politicians) she’s sincere, she has heart, she’s on our side. No, she’s not you or me. But we’re not on the ballot. WE are the movement, which in the long run is what is going to get us what we need. We keep building that movement, we will succeed. And one of our missions in 2020 is to crush Trump, reclaim the Senate and bring down the system of greed, racism, misogyny and white male dominance — because that, my friends, is what has thrown us into the mad, dark hole we’re in. Our movement is on fire now, tens and tens of millions of us in the streets, at the polling sites, at home, organizing online, young people at the forefront, Black America once again saving us and forcing us to be what we say we are but never were. This is our moment. And a daughter of two immigrants, born in the last ten weeks of the Baby Boom (but seemingly with the soul of a millennial) and the skill and smarts of a woman of color who could and did obliterate Bill Barr at a Senate hearing — we have a chance in 83 days to do something the entire world is desperately waiting for us to do. Good on you Joe Biden, congrats Kamala, onward!”

What do you think my agenda would be? To get African American voters to falsely believe that Bernie Sander is just as racist as Trump and Pence and therefore if you care about racism at all, don’t vote for racist Bernie? If you care about public schools at all, don’t vote for pro-Cuomo Bernie?
I would have only one agenda by posting over and over again the very worst things that Bernie has supported and the many, many compromises Bernie has made and telling people that they might as well vote for Trump and Pence because Bernie is no different. And that agenda would be to convince voters that Bernie is no better than Trump and Pence, to help Trump and Pence win.
You have only one agenda here. To defeat Biden and Harris, even if it means that Trump and Pence are re-elected. I think you want Trump and Pence to be re-elected. Just like you can be certain that if Bernie was the candidate and I posted nonstop negative things about Bernie’s worst actions, you would know I wanted Trump and Pence to win.
You posted similarly nasty and ugly things about Elizabeth Warren, so I think we all understand that you had your attacks ready against any VP candidate. You would have been linking to all the same negative articles about Elizabeth Warren you have already used to attack her.
What is your end game? To pretend your vote against Biden and Harris (or Biden and Warren) was justified?
Trump and Pence have not really affected the privilege of white people who send their kids to private schools, have they? Biden and Kamala Harris are far more likely to affect their privilege, so I imagine that another 4 years of Trump/Pence is not too bad.

“At the ballot box, Americans will resoundingly reject the abysmal failures of Biden-Harris in favor of the America First strength of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.”
Team Trump Reveals Brutal Truth About Biden’s ‘Beloved’ VP Pick
By Breck Dumas
August 11th, 2020
‘Not long ago, Kamala Harris called Joe Biden a racist and asked for an apology she never received.’
President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and their 2020 Republican reelection campaign were all quick to weigh in on presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s announcement Tuesday that Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) would be his running mate.
What are the details?
The Trump-Pence Campaign issued a statement shortly after the news hit, dismissing Harris as Biden’s “political living will.”
“Not long ago, Kamala Harris called Joe Biden a racist and asked for an apology she never received,” senior adviser Katrina Pierson wrote. “Clearly, Phony Kamala will abandon her own morals, as well as try to bury her record as a prosecutor, in order to appease the anti-police extremists controlling the Democratic Party.”
Pierson continued, “Joe Biden is no moderate, and with Harris as his ‘political living will,’ he is surrendering control of our nation to the radical mob with promises to raise taxes, cut police funding, kill energy jobs, open our borders, and appease socialist dictators.”
She added, “At the ballot box, Americans will resoundingly reject the abysmal failures of Biden-Harris in favor of the America First strength of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.”
USA Today reported that Pence took “a jab” at Harris while speaking to a crowd in Arizona.
“I don’t know if you all heard the news, but on the way here I heard Joe Biden just named his running mate — California Senator Kamala Harris,” Pence began. “So let me take this opportunity to welcome her to the race.”
The crowd booed, before Pence continued, “As you all know, Joe Biden and the Democratic Party have been overtaken by the radical left. So given their promises of higher taxes, open borders, socialized medicine, and abortion on demand, it’s no surprise that he chose Senator Harris.”
He added, “The choice in this election is whether America remains America.”
Pence also mentioned that the vice presidential debate was set for Oct. 7 in Utah.
What did President Trump say?
President Trump addressed the selection during a White House briefing, saying he was “a little surprised” by the pick, noting that Harris “did very very poorly in primaries, she ended up right around 2 percent.”
According to Fox News, Trump pointed to a scathing attack Harris made against Biden last year during the Democratic presidential primary debates, saying, “She was very disrespectful to Biden. It’s hard to pick someone that was that disrespectful.”
Harris landed blows against Biden last summer when she confronted him on the debate stage for previously opposing federally-mandating busing to desegregate schools, saying she was personally impacted by the program as a child.

The Rest of the World Has Placed Us in Our Own Private Prison
By Michael Moore, Michael Moore’s Facebook Page
12 August 20
Planning a trip over the holidays? You do realize the rest of the world has placed us in our own private prison, right? We are now prohibited from traveling to and entering without restriction nearly every single nation on Earth. Only EIGHT countries will currently let anyone holding an American passport in without any restrictions (no quarantine, no pre-testing, no visa, no nothing). Here are the only nations you can freely travel to without question or a doctor’s note as an American:
North Macedonia
Kosovo
Tunisia
Turkey
Dominican Republic
Mexico
Maldives
Serbia
(there are 23 other countries that’ll let some of us in – but with restrictions and quarantines)
We are considered such a major health risk by the rest of the world, they would rather forgo any visits from American business people, bankers, tourists, students, scientists, Walmart executives, filmmakers(!), Coca-Cola salesmen, golfers, relatives – you name it. We’re all a threat (not that that’s anything new). They have witnessed our abysmal failure to treat this pandemic seriously. They have watched our ho-hum indifference of doing little while letting 165,000 of our people needlessly die (165,000 dead is the equivalent of fifty-five 9/11s, an incident which made us go nuts with anger, demanding an immediate goddamn response!). The rest of the world is aghast that we are being led during this crisis by an idiot and a sociopath. To the world we are a plague. We are dangerous. We are sick. So they’ve locked the gate, pulled up the drawbridge, slammed the door. Most of us have no idea that the world has put us under house arrest. That’s because the vast majority of us never leave the US our entire lives. Nearly 60% of us do NOT have a passport. We have little interest in the rest of the planet — and that’s just fine with them. They’d rather now we just stay home, chanting our national motto (“WE’RE #1!”), and celebrating our God-given right to not have to wear a face mask.

I watched the formal introduction of Kamela Harris this afternoon, August 12.
She and Biden both had tele-prompters. Harris was less dependent on that device than Biden was, no surprise. I found her address near pitch perfect for the campaign and to introduce herself to an audience on three networks.
I then flipped to Fox News to see responses. Geraldo Rivera was impressed. The usual attack dogs went back to Charleston and claimed Harris “lied” about what Trump said about the marchers who chanted “The Jews Will Not Replace Us.” About that event, Trump said that there were “nice people on both sides.” The Fox News attack dog had a list of other claims about “lies” in Harris’s address. It is clear that Fox news will be supplying Trump with fodder for his anti-Biden/Harris Tweets.

Each of the 4 squad members won her primary. It should deliver a message to neoliberal CAP.

Yes! And also, this is what Kamala Harris said in January 2019, right after the squad took office. She was being goaded by Republican Meghan McCain to agree with the negative propaganda about the squad, the Kamala made it clear she would not play along:
“I wanted to ask you, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the new darling of the party,” began host Meghan McCain. “She’s on ’60 Minutes’ this weekend proudly calling herself a radical, and she’s promoting policies like saying that every single carbon emission in the country — every car — should be eliminated within the next 11 years, everything from a 70 to 80 percent tax rate. Do you agree that she could possibly, and this ideology of the socialist left, could splinter your party?”
“No,” replied Harris. “You know, I think that she is challenging the status quo. I think that’s fantastic.”
Harris went on to say her background in teaching left her with an appreciation of examining premises and questioning if they’re still relevant and meaningful.
“And I think that she is introducing bold ideas that should be discussed,” she went on. “I think it’s good for the party and I think it’s frankly good for the country. Let’s look at the bold ideas! And I’m eager that we have those discussions. And when we are able to defend the status quo let’s do it, and when there’s not merit to that, let’s explore new ideas.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Harris opted to avoid criticizing Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., for using an expletive to describe the president. She also said the country is ready for a female president of color.

Meghan McCain puts a pretty face on a morally bankrupt GOP. She pretends to care about the poor while propagandizing for the corrupt financial “conservatism” that denies the 99% economic opportunity.

In 1991, Bernie Sanders was the first chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus with Maxine Waters and four other congresspeople as members. In 2021, it will likely have a hundred congresspeople as members, including the original 2018 Squad plus Jamaal Bowman and Cori Bush. Six congresspeople in the Progressive Caucus grew to a hundred. In 2021, six congresspeople in the Progressive Squad…

Trump’s positions are well-known. He has been vocal about reopening schools this fall and keeping businesses open, arguing that the worst of the virus has been contained and that a vaccine is on the horizon. Here’s what we know about what Biden would do differently:
A Biden administration would centralize many aspects of the federal government response. Biden has said he would invoke the Defense Production Act to ramp up production of protective equipment and set up a Pandemic Testing Board to boost testing supplies. He would form a new federal public health corps with 100,000 contact tracers. Under Biden, OSHA would double its number of investigators and take on a more active role in making sure employers are following Covid protocols. And federal authorities would be more involved in deciding which school districts could open.
I asked the Biden campaign today how a Biden administration would handle a governor who lifts restrictions or orders students back to classrooms while virus cases and hospitalizations are surging. I was told that he would listen to science and work with state leaders. But there are many governors who might welcome a showdown with a Democratic president. Georgia’s Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, for example, sued the city of Atlanta over its Covid recommendations and mask requirement.
“The vice president will fully mobilize a national plan. He will call on governors to do what they can do within the borders of their state to fulfill the responsibilities of the plan and then use the bully pulpit in the White House to drive a national message telling people what the facts are,” said Kathleen Sebelius, health secretary from 2009 until 2014 and now a Biden surrogate.
Vaccine development might be slowed for safety concerns.Trump’s Operation Warp Speed has set an year-end deadline for developing a Covid vaccine. A Biden administration would be concerned about rushing out a vaccine that doesn’t go through the FDA’s approval process or that lacks transparent clinical trial data, a Biden staffer told me.
Some things won’t change. Tony Fauci will still be around. Biden has said one of his first calls would be to the infectious disease specialist, to ask him to stay. And don’t expect a national mask mandate. Biden has prominently worn masks when he’s ventured out in public, but his campaign suggested that his efforts to convince Americans to don masks would involve more a change in tone than in policy.

The highly political Bishop Tobin (Providence R.I.) isn’t happy with the ticket. Maybe, in his view, a black and female vp candidate cancels out Biden’s Catholicism. Tobin tweeted, “Biden-Harris, first time in awhile that the Democratic ticket hasn’t had a Catholic on it. Sad.” He followed the tweet with a sad emoji.
The children hoping a bishop would protect them from priest abuse. : – (

“This is going to be a knock-down, drag-out. And we’re ready.”
Kamala Harris, who also said the Trump campaign will “engage in lies” and “deception” during the presidential race. She made the comments in response to President Trump floating a new conspiracy theory last week about her eligibility to serve as vice president or president.
