George T. Conway III is a lawyer. He happensto be married to Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s Close aide.
He writes in The Atlantic that Trump is unfit to serve.
It is no secret.
He writes:
No president in recent memory—and likely no president ever—has prompted more discussion about his mental stability and connection with reality. Trump’s former chief of staff John Kelly is said to have described him as “unhinged,” and “off the rails,” and to have called the White House “Crazytown” because of Trump’s unbalanced state. Trump’s former deputy attorney general, Rod Rosenstein, once reportedly discussed recruiting Cabinet members to invoke the Twenty-Fifth Amendment, the Constitution’s provision addressing presidential disability, including mental disability…
Rosenstein denies that claim, but it is not the only such account. A senior administration official, writing anonymously in The New York Times last September, described how, “given the instability many witnessed, there were early whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th Amendment”—but “no one wanted to precipitate a constitutional crisis.” And NBC News last week quoted someone familiar with current discussions in the White House warning that there is “increasing wariness that, as this impeachment inquiry drags out, the likelihood increases that the president could respond erratically and become ‘unmanageable.’” In September, a former White House official offered a similar assessment to a Business Insider reporter: “No one knows what to expect from him anymore,” because “his mood changes from one minute to the next based on some headline or tweet, and the next thing you know his entire schedule gets tossed out the window. He’s losing his shit….”
The president isn’t simply volatile and erratic, however—he’s also incapable of consistently telling the truth. Those who work closely with him, and who aren’t in denial, must deal with Trump’s lying about serious matters virtually every day. But as one former official put it, they “are used to the president saying things that aren’t true,” and have inured themselves to it. Trump’s own former communications director Anthony Scaramucci has on multiple occasions described Trump as a liar, once saying, “We … know he’s telling lies,” so “if you want me to say he’s a liar, I’m happy to say he’s a liar.” He went on to address Trump directly: “You should probably dial down the lying because you don’t need to … So dial that down, and you’ll be doing a lot better….”
Behavior like this is unusual, a point that journalists across the political spectrum have made. “This is not normal,” Megan McArdle wrote in late August. “And I don’t mean that as in, ‘Trump is violating the shibboleths of the Washington establishment.’ I mean that as in, ‘This is not normal for a functioning adult.’” James Fallows observed, also in August, that Trump is having “episodes of what would be called outright lunacy, if they occurred in any other setting,” and that if he “were in virtually any other position of responsibility, action would already be under way to remove him from that role.”
I remember the one of the main reactions I had to Obama that made me like and want to vote for him. He reminded me of the people I enjoyed working with most. And he reminded me of the kind of person I would like to work for. Calm, deliberate, not without a sense of humor, smart.
Imagine the living hell of working for Trump. An unstable, unlearned, uncontrollable and unaccountable coward who is also a pathological liar.
Just read Michael Wolff’s books Fire & Fury & Siege, as well as Bob Woodward’s book. Tells the tale, &, unfortunately, not a fairy tale.
More like what Grimm’s Fairy Tales really were…only real.
Trump’s “performance” with the Finnish president was jaw-dropping (the usual), despicable and a disgrace to the country. The Finnish president was tactful, diplomatic and he made sense, what a contrast.
This just in from the NYT: WASHINGTON — President Trump on Thursday publicly called on China to investigate a political rival, former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., in an extraordinary presidential request to a foreign country for help that could benefit him in the 2020 election.
“China should start an investigation into the Bidens,” Mr. Trump said Thursday as he left the White House to travel to Florida. end quote
Lock him up!
The problem I see is that the average voter around here will see this as business as usual. Instead of seeing this as a moment in history that has only happened four times, they will interpret it as an attempt to remove someone that they like. Some will remember that the republicians went after Bill Clinton and smirk that the shoe is now on the other foot. Neither supporters or partisan detractors seem aware of what a mistake they made when they elected this loose cannon. While some Obama supporters rejected his stance on education, and some W. Bush supporters rejected his internationalism, the supporters of Trump seem to accept even the most extreme policies of this president. Conway can write all he wants to, but Trump’s support will not wane. His 37% is intact. If the republicans do not offer alternatives, vote for impeachment, or at least speak up, he will be re-elected. The Democrats seem unable to present a unifying candidate at this time
“China should start an investigation into the Bidens,” Mr. Trump said.
Trump apparently never learns. There is an impeachment investigation because of his seeking help from the Ukraine to investigate the Bidens.
How many other countries are involved in his self-centered talks with leaders to ensure that he wins the 2020 election?
Apparently he has never been held accountable for any of his misdeeds. He still believes he is above the law and can do whatever he wishes. His presidency is “all about Trump”.
The president is his usual victim-playing self, caterwauling that his “perfect” phone call with the Ukrainian president is being maligned (even though his own White House released notes confirming Schiff’s portrayal is accurate).
WATCH: Rep. Adam Schiff’s full opening statement on whistleblower complaint | DNI hearing
PBS NewsHour
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the chair of the House Intelligence Committee, questioned Director of National Intelligence Director Joseph Maguire’s handling of a whistleblower complaint involving a phone call between Donald Trump and Ukraine’s president. In his opening statement during a hearing featuring Maguire, Schiff emphasized the need for whistleblower complaints to be presented to Congress to prevent leaking, which Schiff said would threaten U.S. national security. Schiff later admitted that he included words in his opening statement that the president did not say, noting that his characterization was meant to be taken “at least, in part, in parody.”
Since the New York Times broke the story, we’ve been hearing a lot, lately, about the March immigration meeting in the Trump Whiter House that was supposed to last for 30 minutes but turned into an unhinged, two-hour rant in which, among other things, Trump suggested putting moats (spelled “moots” by Trump in a tweet) filled with snakes and alligators at the border. It’s understandable that this bit of craziness from Trump is getting a lot of airtime. It’s completely loony. But what is far, far more concerning is that according to the Times, Trump insisted that asylum seekers at the border should be shot, his advisors explained that they couldn’t legally do that, and Trump kept pressing on this, suggesting that they could be shot in the legs. (The man definitely watches too much television.)
He’s an utter nutcase.
The smarter Republicans are starting to figure out that Trump is going to lose big time in 2020 and take a lot of them with him. He is, quite literally, a crazy person, and a dangerous one, and he is also in severe cognitive decline. Can anyone imagine his carrying his own in a debate in his current condition? The smart thing would be for the Republicans to take the out the Democrats are offering them and fly with another candidate for the 2020 election.
Let me put it this way: What would happen to you if you held a meeting and told your staff to start shooting people? Exactly.
Someone would, quite rightly, call the police, and they would lock you up and have you examined for criminal psychosis.
cx: and have him examined for criminal intent and psychosis
And consider this: do the Republicans REALLY want the 2020 Democratic candidate asking Trump about that meeting (and thousands of other instances of utter lunacy) in the Presidential debates?
“no one wanted to precipitate a constitutional crisis.”
That thinking is a tragedy in the making because once we have no Constitution and the United States becomes Trumpistan, it will be too late to precipitate a constitutional crisis to save the U.S. Constitution and its republic.
And make no mistake, there is no guarantee that Trump won’t get what he wants, total power to do anything … ANYTHING!
What is an autocrat? Definition: a ruler having unlimited power
In other words:
A dictator
A despot
a fascist.
a tyrant
Hitler
Caesar
…
and Donald Trump
If the U.S. becomes Trumpistan, do not be surprised if he stocks the White House with teenage beauty queens running around naked all the time. Trump, as an all-powerful Emperor will have his harem and his concubines.
And the Always Trump supporters filling the ranks of his army and police state will cheer him on.
What I find most upsetting is that we absolutely knew Trump was like this. The man spent the better part of 6 years pushing “birther” conspiracies about Obama and then told America (numerous times) that Ted Cruz’ dad helped assassinate President Kennedy. Aside from all the reprehensible straightforward racist comments and tweets Trump made during the campaign, he has also shown absolutely no compunction about lying, cheating, and pushing conspiracy theories.
And I’m not including the fact that his so-called Trump “University” scammed foolish believers out of their money and his “Foundation” used the “charitable donations” to purchase a portrait of Trump for his hotel.
I don’t know which astonishes me more — that Trump’s followers are so driven by their hatred of “libs” that they will put up with the blatant lies and corruption by someone because he is going after their “enemies”, or that some people on the left were so blinded with hatred of HRC and the Democrats that they could not understand how dangerous Trump was (and would not acknowledge that he was any worse than typical “corrupt” Democrats).
“some people on the left were so blinded with hatred of HRC and the Democrats that they could not understand how dangerous Trump was (and would not acknowledge that he was any worse than typical “corrupt” Democrats).”
Ask Dienne77 about that since she fits the quoted comment above.
I seriously doubt that anything Trump does is to benefit anybody. Why does ONE person have so much power? We should worry if Trump says his version of Medicare will ‘improve fiscal sustainability’.
Trump said, “Today, I will sign a historic executive order that does exactly that: We are making your Medicare even better—and we are not letting anyone take it away.”, But most important, it will improve the fiscal sustainability of Medicare overall, ensuring that it will always be there for those who need it most.

President Trump is protecting Medicare for America’s seniors
Today, President Donald J. Trump traveled to The Villages, Florida, outlining how he will protect Medicare for our Nation’s seniors. In doing so, he offered a clear contrast to Congressional Democrats’ socialist takeover vision for the public.
A message to America’s seniors: “No one will lay a hand on your Medicare benefits.”
“I made you a sacred pledge that I would strengthen, protect, and defend Medicare for our senior citizens,” President Trump said. “Today, I will sign a historic executive order that does exactly that: We are making your Medicare even better—and we are not letting anyone take it away.”
The newly signed Executive Order will improve service to American seniors in many ways. First, it will empower patients by giving them more plan choices, more access to new therapies, and more time with providers. It will also maximize freedom for patients and providers by reducing regulatory burdens and eliminating unnecessary barriers.
But most important, it will improve the fiscal sustainability of Medicare overall, ensuring that it will always be there for those who need it most.
In the Sunshine State alone, more than 4.5 million people are currently enrolled in Medicare. Today’s announcement was just the latest bit of welcome news for Floridians as part of the President’s economic agenda for working Americans. More than 550,000 jobs have been added there since the election, and the state’s unemployment rate has been reduced from 4.7 percent to 3.3 percent.
“Medicare is under threat like never before. Almost every major Democrat in Washington has backed a massive government healthcare takeover that would obliterate Medicare.”
The left’s “Medicare-for-All” vision is a dangerous proposal, to put it lightly, threatening to end the Medicare program as we know it and eliminate choice for America’s seniors. If it is ever implemented, the end result would be Medicare-for-none.
Democrats lied about Obamacare then. They’re lying about Medicare-for-All now.
President Trump’s healthcare vision: Puts America’s seniors and patients first
Does Trump ever tell the truth. THis is another lie.
For instance, the White House has a VA hotline to help vets, according to Trump who says he cares about veterans. If Trump tweets or opens his mouth, expect smoke and mirrors to come out instead of facts and truth.
The truth was revealed by disabled Veterans.org.
… “I wrote about this in August, and the main consensus at the time was a major disappointment that the White House was not actually running the call center, but instead VA out of its Veteran Experience Office.
“Many veterans expect a Trump-style, hammer-down approach to resolving their issues within VA by using the White House. Instead, what they ended up with was a Trump-style rebranding of VA’s old and tired call centers. …
“It seems like a clear bait-and-switch to me.”
If Trump opens his mouth and talks, he lies and/or bullies/insults someone.
If Trump tweets, he lies and/or bullies/insults someone.
Back in the 1960s when LBJ was proposing Medicare and Medicaid, Reagan went all over the country propagandizing against Medicare and Medicaid, he said it would lead to socialism and a loss of freedom. The same old GOP garbage over and over and over and over again. Anything that helps the people equals socialism, communism, Stalinism, blah, blah, blah, according to the GOP/right wing nuts/libertarians.
Trump: “Medicare is under threat like never before. Almost every major Democrat in Washington has backed a massive government healthcare takeover that would obliterate Medicare.”
Talk about Orwellian double speak. Medicare is under threat from the GOP as always and forever.
What type of demented, uncompassionate mind comes up with such garbage?

RollingStone : Trump’s Border Fantasy Includes Stabbing and Shooting Migrants, Feeding Them to Reptiles
Trump also proposed digging a water-filled moat and stocking it with snakes and alligators. If he was kidding, his aides didn’t think so, as they sought a cost estimate for the cartoonishly ludicrous proposal. Trump also wanted the wall to be electrified, and topped with spikes that could “pierce human flesh.”…
This isn’t the first we’ve heard of Trump indulging his inner Wile E. Coyote when it comes to fortifying the border wall. During a trip to San Diego last month, the president regaled reporters with the specifications of “a wall the likes of which very few places have ever seen.” You won’t be able to cut through it with a blowtorch, he explained, and it will be so hot that you’ll be able to “fry an egg” on it. He also claimed that the government contracted 20 “champion” mountain climbers to test wall prototypes, although no one has been able to turn up any evidence this actually happened.
Earlier reports have noted that Trump has demanded the wall be as tall as possible, topped with spikes, and painted black, despite warnings about how much such cosmetic flourishes could drive up the cost.
In reality, the border is already plenty dangerous, as was recently detailed in Jason Motlagh’s piece for Rolling Stone, “The Deadliest Crossing,”about migrants crossing the border through a perilous stretch of Arizona desert. “In his wildest dreams, Donald Trump could not build a wall more effective than the Sonoran Desert — 100,000 square miles of rugged mountain ranges and wide, bone-dry valleys,” Motlagh writes before pointing out that close to 9,000 people are estimated to have died crossing the border there since 1990, and that the actual number is likely far higher…

From Bernie:
I want to thank you for all of the well wishes I’ve received over the past two days.
I am feeling good, and am fortunate to have good health care and great doctors and nurses helping me recover. And I am looking forward to sharing our vision for transforming this country at the next debate on October 15.
But the truth is, millions of Americans are not as lucky as I am right now.
Today in America, there are some 87 million Americans who are uninsured or underinsured.
That is unacceptable to me.
It is unacceptable to me that today in America, we end up spending almost twice as much as any other major country on health care, while our life expectancy continues to decline and our healthcare outcomes lag behind many other countries.
It is unacceptable to me that we give tax breaks to billionaires and large corporations while people are dying because they can’t afford to get to a doctor or buy the medicine they need.
It is unacceptable to me that at meeting after meeting our campaign holds, I hear from people who have lost loved ones because they could not afford the unbelievably high cost of prescription drugs or from others who are forced to cut their pills in half due to the cost.
It is unacceptable to me that working class families and small businesses pay far more for healthcare than they can afford, and more than half a million Americans declare bankruptcy each year because they cannot pay off the outrageous cost of a medical emergency or a hospital stay.
And in my view it is long past time that we end the international embarrassment of the United States being the only major country on Earth that does not guarantee health care to all its citizens.
So thank you again for your well wishes – they mean a lot to Jane and me. It means a lot to us that supporters like you made more than 100,000 calls on the dialer as part of our Call to Win program last night. It means a lot to us that so many are signing up for canvasses, organizing meetings and ballot access events across the country this week. It means a lot to us that almost 8,000 people made a contribution to our campaign yesterday without us even asking.
Thank you.
None of us know when a medical emergency might affect us. And no one should fear going bankrupt if it occurs.
It is time for Medicare for All.
In solidarity,
Bernie Sanders
This is very frightening. 1 in 6 Americans think it is good or very good for an army to rule. 49% think elites should make decisions rather than the government. It would be better to have a strong leader.
Are people really this stupid? They must be. It’s also part of why Trump got elected.

Ronald Reagan launched an attack on the middle class. We must reverse it to save our democracy
Written by Thom Hartmann / Independent Media Institute October 2, 2019
The destruction of the middle class is destroying democracies and paving the way for authoritarian rule.In 2016, Roberto Stefan Foa and Yascha Mounk published a paper in the Journal of Democracy showing how, in the era since Reagan led America out of classical economic policy and into neoliberalism (aka “trickle-down” and “supply-side” economics), many Americans have ceased to value democracy.“
In the United States,” they write, “among all age cohorts, the share of citizens who believe that it would be better to have a ‘strong leader’ who does not have to ‘bother with parliament and elections’ has also risen over time: In 1995, 24 percent of respondents held this view; by 2011, that figure had increased to 32 percent.” By the time the paper came out in 2016, fully 49 percent of Americans thought elites should make decisions, rather than “government.”
And the growing disillusionment with democracy as a way to protect the interests of average voters doesn’t just push them toward solutions hatched by the Heritage Foundation or the Cato Institute; increasingly, Americans would even consider a military junta ruling America, something that would shock the founders.“In the past three decades,” Foa and Mounk write, “the share of U.S. citizens who think that it would be a ‘good’ or ‘very good’ thing for the ‘army to rule’—a patently undemocratic stance—has steadily risen. In 1995, just one in sixteen respondents agreed with that position; today, one in six agree.”…

As bad and corrupt as Trump is — and make no mistake he is very bad and incredibly corrupt — it isn’t JUST Trump.
It is Republicans in Congress who’ve aided and abetted him. It is the people who’ve served in his Cabinet, who’ve tolerated the intolerable, done his bidding, and when they’ve left, they’ve held their tongues.
It’s the people who voted for him, believing his lies and baseless accusations.
It’s Fox News and Fox hate mongers like Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson, and right-wing media bozos like Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin.
There’s a lot of blame to go around.
The House needs to get Trump’s taxes and his phone calls which have been moved to a secure server and we can be done with the Orange Buffoon. Let’s hope that people wise up to the destruction that the GOP is causing. Good grief, we now have a Supreme Court that won’t stop gerrymandering.

Trump Brought Up Biden, Warren In A Call With Chinese President: Report
President Donald Trump brought up two of his potential 2020 opponents ― former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) ― in a call with Chinese President Xi Jinping in June, sources familiar with the phone cal told CNN on Thursday.
The report comes hours after Trump suggested, while speaking to reporters, that China investigate Biden, appearing to openly ask another foreign government to influence an American election despite Congress investigating Trump for doing the same thing with Ukraine’s president.
According to CNN’s report on the June 18 call, Trump brought up the “political prospects” of Biden and Warren, the latter of who had recently started rising in the polls. In that same call, he promised not to speak out on the ongoing Hong Kong protests as China and the U.S. negotiate a trade deal.
A record of the call was moved to a highly secure server, CNN reported.
The alleged conversation — and how it was archived — bears significant similarity to a phone call Trump had around the same time with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which Trump pressed the leader to investigate Biden while also reminding him that the U.S. had provided Ukraine with a lot of foreign aid…

There is some hope!!!
But the Ukraine scandal has had a substantial effect. The share of people favoring impeachment has risen. A new poll came out yesterday, from USA Today, showing that “Americans by a 45%-38% plurality now support” impeachment and by a similar margin support the Senate convicting and removing Trump.
Recent polls on Trump’s approval rating — which are probably more meaningful than impeachment polls — have also been bad for him. As Nate Silver tweeted, “Trump approval down from ~43% to ~41% since the Ukraine story broke.” (Pay no attention to stories that ignore poll averages and cherry-pick outlier polls.)
A 41 percent approval rating is obviously not good. Morning Consult released a state-by-state poll yesterday showing Trump with net negative approval in Arizona, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, all of which he won in 2016. He is hovering around the break-even point in Florida and Georgia.
Talking Points Memo today posted , “Inside the Christian Legal Army Weakening the Church-State Divide”. From the article, “Adhering to this narrow definition (ADF’s) of
‘sex’ is underway at the Dept. of Ed., where officials took one of the first anti-trans steps
of the administration.” ADF is the Alliance Defending Freedom which has had 54 Supreme Court victories, which has 60 staff attorneys and a $55 mil. annual budget. Pence addressed the group in Aug. ADF wrote, with God’s help “…we can protect what we have…”
No mention in the article of the Napa Institute’s new offshoot with similar goals.
Corporations may have seen opportunity to create Republican votes by separating the population along lines of traditional values vs. progressive values. Corporate ad campaigns and t.v. programming featuring gay people may not have had noble intent. It may have had the strategic goal of creating a wedge to get more votes for business friendly politicians.
Linda,
The new GOP Attack line is that all Dems are “socialists.”
Saw this yesterday in Staten Island. Max Rose, a vet, was elected in 2018 in this conservative borough of NYC that supported Trump in 2016. Rose was the only member of the NYC Democratic delegation who had not supported impeachment. When he finally came out for impeachment, his Republican opponent declared he was a socialist.
The self-serving are selective in their support for socialism. It’s good if it benefits corporations. It’s good if it has exclusionary benefit. Joy Behar is the poster child for the selfish person protecting her Medicare but, opposing Medicare for all.
Fox spreads the propaganda about churches/religion being under attack to piggy back the corporate ads and tv programming that show gay people. It’s a diabolical plan. The corporations get praise for being progressive while Fox herds “traditional values” voters to Koch-ALEC pro- richest 0.1% politicians. The media play the assigned role as liberal boogey man.
Conway has a great understanding of Trump his marriage, however, must be a little strange. Another great source for understanding Trump is studying Roy Cohn, like Trump “He got away with it-until he didn’t”.. Trump was Cohn’s most insatiable student, through the 70’s and 80’s Cohn became more than his attorney, he provided the M O that launched his career.. Trump mirrored Cohn’s maneuvers and fine tuned his deceptions like : Deflect and distract, never give-in, never admit fault, lie and attack,, win no matter what. All in the name of chaos and fear.
We don’t know whether he’ll get his comeuppance by impeachment. What we do know is he faces a tsunami of legal difficulties that will put an end to the game he has played so effectively
Comedians are having a great time with this Orange Bozo.

The President hasn’t formulated much of a plan to defend himself against impeachment, unless you count freaking out on Twitter as a plan.
The hurt Trump puts on people never ends. Why does he get away with proclamations and executive orders? He is playing dictator, or king. Millions of Americans can’t afford healthcare and Trump doesn’t care about them either.

Immigrants will be denied visas if they cannot prove they have health insurance or the ability to pay for medical care, the Trump administration said.
Friday, October 4, 2019 9:05 PM EST
President Trump issued a proclamation, effective Nov. 3, ordering consular officers to deny visas to immigrants seeking to live in the United States unless they “will be covered by approved health insurance” or can prove that they have “the financial resources to pay for reasonably foreseeable medical costs.”
My grandparents would have been turned away under these rules.
So would Trump’s wife, mother, and grandfather. Irony is lost on that creep.
Diane: My grandfather left Sweden at age 14 and went to Minnesota by himself to meet other relatives. He left because life was so hard in Sweden that he didn’t want to stay.
He was extremely poor and I’m sure didn’t have the money to pay for health insurance. BUT he was white. Trump wanted more immigrants from Finland. It’s these brown people who are starving and are fearful of being killed, raped or maimed in their homelands that he can’t stand.
Trump is totally vile. Why not dig ‘moots’ all along the southern wall that he wants to paint black and have flesh tearing spikes on top. Put snakes and alligators in these ‘moots’. Shoot the immigrants in the legs and then let them die in the desert with no health insurance. Good grief. People who are providing emergency food and water are being jailed.
My total hatred for him increases each day. I simply don’t understand someone who thinks the wealthy deserve everything and the rest of us can be satisfied with his disgusting Tweets.
Make America Great Again.
When you watch what this idiot says and does, you can understand the Rise of Hitler.
In addition, Trump wants to solve the homeless problem by having them all rounded up by ICE or other law enforcement agencies and moved into isolated “camps” as if they are all criminals.
