Roland Fryer Jr.s Education Innovation lab at Harvard was funded primarily by Eli Broad’s Foundation. Fryer received numerous prestigious awards for his work a san economist. He was the “chief equality officer” for the NYC Department of Education under Joel Klein.

Lots of people associated with “reform” seem to have a compromised set of ethics. Fryer is another example. The validity of his bias in police work study has also come into question from several scholars. Fryer is a stain on Harvard’s reputation, which, from where I stand, also seems compromised. Harvard took $2 or $2.5 million from the Kushners to ensure that Jared would get in to Harvard, a feat unlikely on his own merit.

Indeed, Harvard’s reputation has become so stained it’s almost hard to imagine Fryer being able to further stain it.

My guess is that Fryer left a grease stain.

Speaking of Harvard and Gates, there’s Bill’s favorite author, Harvard’s Stephen Pinker. A screen shot at Slate shows the following comment, “Stephen Pinker, Jeffrey Epstein and Lawrence Krauss have an odd relationship that provides insight into the relationship between institutions of science, the movement of capital, the profit motive and funding.”
Photos of Jeffrey Epstein wearing a Harvard sweat shirt are priceless…then, there’s former Harvard President Larry Summers.

“Can Jeffrey Epstein’s Harvard “power friends” get him out of trouble again?” (Observer, 7-9-2019)
The name of former harvard President, Larry Summers, crops up in reports about Jeffrey Epstein. Summers is a Distinguished Senior Fellow at CAP and, a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at the Stanford Institute for the Evisceration of People’s Retirement (SIEPRE). Summers is on the Boards of TFA and the Broad Foundation.
Another person who finds his name associated with Jeffrey Epstein is Leon Black, the founder of Apollo Global Management. (Media reported Betsy DeVos is invested in a subsidiary of Apollo). “Meet Apollo Global Management, the Biggest For-Profit Education Group in the World” (ElearningInside 2017)

Maybe the DOE should start hiring people with titles like “Director of First Impressions” like corporate entities do. (fyi, in the olden days that would have been a receptionist.)

I wish these people would be suspended because their work is biased and weak rather than getting the ax because they can’t keep it in their pants. These sexual peccadillos seems to be a particular failing of powerful men, which is why they were ignored for so long. I want them brought down for their professional failings. “Education reform” in all of its iterations has done more to destroy public education than I thought possible.

One can harass and even abuse children with impunity in our society because, like the elderly, children are second class citizens (at best).
That’s why 20% poverty among our children is allowed to persist.
That’s why pedophile priests and people like Jeffrey Epstein got away with their crimes for so long.
That’s also why deformers have been able to get away with their experiments on American school children for literally decades without so much as asking for permission.

I wish I had access to the Boston Globe article to get a better handle on this critter. But I agree w/SDP that it’s not a coincidence that someone willing to trample the rights of poor children to a free & decent ed is revealed as sexually predatory toward underlings. The two behaviors are congruent. Society is more primed to expose & sanction the latter– which is too bad for poor kids, but OK by me as a reason to dump this guy’s reputation, which hopefully will make it harder for him to hurt anybody.

Roland ‘Nobel-less Ed lab’ Fryer” (apologies to the late great Warren Zevon, RIP)
Roland was a warrior from the land of the Crimson sun
An econ man for hire, fighting to be done
The deal was made at Harvard on a dark and stormy day
So he set out for the White House to join the Edu-fray
Through merit pay and testing he fought the Edu-wars
With his finger on the figure, knee-deep in the scores
For days and nights he battled, the unions and their ties
He tried to earn his living, with some help from Condi Rice
Roland the Ed Lab Fryer
Roland the Ed Lab Fryer
His comrades fought beside him, Raj Chetty and the rest
But of all the Ed Lab hires, Roland was the best
But his merit-pay experiment went belly-up to hell
That son-of-a-gun experiment, blew up his Nobel
Roland “Nobel-less Ed Lab” Fryer, Harvard’s bravest hire
They can still see his Nobel-less body stalking through the night
In the brilliant flash of Roland’s Ed Lab fire
In the brilliant flash of Roland’s Ed Lab fire
Roland “Nobel-less Ed Lab” Fryer
Roland “Nobel-less Ed Lab” Fryer
Roland “Nobel-less Ed Lab” Fryer
Talkin’ about the man, Roland “Nobel-less Ed Lab” Fryer

Here in Massachusetts, we call him Two-Tier Fryer. He served for a time on the Walton connected MA state board of education and resigned contemporaneously with allegations of sexual misconduct. The “Two-Tier”comes from remarks he made in 2012, where he opined that there shouldn’t be much standardized testing for his own children in a wealthy Boston suburb, because they needed time for Shakespeare, but that kids in urban schools ought to be tested “every day”. Go to about 48:00 in.

Couldn’t read the article–seems to be behind a paywall.
That having been said, I must ask why he has only been suspended w/o pay for 2 years?
What, then, happens after 2 years? Does he pick up a nifty payout & go on his merry way, to become (what so many Broadies have) a participant in the “dance of the lemons?”

We can be sure of one thing. If he were a French fryer at McDonalds or a public school teacher, be would have been fired in a heartbeat.
But there are two standards when it comes to accountability: one for the elite and one for everyone else.

…which is kinda why I want him suspended for professional failings rather than for his sexual predilictions. Discredit a person professionally and it can impact a career and that individual’s future influence. Apparently sexual misdeeds are not enough to can him permanently.
