Betsy DeVos says there is no such thing as “public money.”
This was one of the things she told the nation’s education writers.
Valerie Strauss reports on her appearance here.
What comes through in her answers is that she lives in an alternate reality.
She denies facts she doesn’t like.
She nimbly avoids answering difficult questions.
She lives in a rarefied billionaire bubble.

The idea that there is no public (anything) was pushed hot and heavy during the Reagan/Thatcher years (buttressed by the economic “wisdom” [sic] of Milton Friedman). It quickly became standard doctrine in the Republican Party and then, with the advent of the “Third Way” Democrats, became standard bipartisan policy. This is really nothing new or specific to DeVos, she’s just been the first to be so openly grotesque about it, for which we actually owe her some thanks for making it obvious enough that people are finally catching on.

No such thing as public money and quotes Maggie Thatcher. Here’s what right-thinking people think about Maggie Thatcher (and hopefully soon, Betsy DeVos and Individual-1):

Reblogged this on David R. Taylor-Thoughts on Education and commented:
The first thought that comes to mind: In order to evaluate a person performance, don’t they have to perform first?

That POS deserves a negative on her performance. A maggot would have done a better job.

Betsy has no concept of the common good and collectivism. Her speech is a way to try to work around paying for public schools and justifying sending federal funds into private pockets. If we all can direct our own tax dollars, would we have enough money for the police, fire departments or even the military? We would have anarchy! She is the worst person to represent the federal government as she does not want it to function. She would like to go back in time to the “Articles of Federation.” She has so much money she should buy her own private island where she and Dickie can live totally free from any government involvement instead of trying impose her impractical, radical, right wing agenda on everyone else. We need democratic solutions.

De Vos is doing an outstanding job of defunding public education. She is to be commended for her steadfast representation of the billionaire oligarchic class.

If there’s no such thing as public money and people can spend however they please, I refuse to pay taxes to support DeVapid’s several million dollars a year private security force, I refuse to support testing in grades 3-8, I refuse to support immigrant detention camps, I refuse to support military overthrows of foreign governments as in the Iraq War, and I refuse to support corporate bailouts during recessions, just to name a few things. They’re my dollars, I want them spent on comfortable shoes for teachers who go on strike to protest the privatization policies of DeVindictive.
And did DeVegetable call herself a “common sense conservative”? Common sense? Really? Uh, grizzlies?
