Michael Elliott, professional videographer and ally of every New York parent group that opposes high-stakes testing, filmed the events on March 16, when AOC joined a community discussion in Jackson Heights, Queens, about public education. With the help of Kemala Karmen, he has broken up the day into segments that you can watch at your leisure. Each of them is short–mostly 3-5 minutes.

¡Educación bilingüe para cada estudiante!
Bilingual education for every student!
The rich are threatened by Justice Democrats. The DCCC announced its going to blacklist any private political vendors who provide services to Democratic primary challengers. The fix is in for Booker, Hakeem Jeffries, and Susan Davis among other establishment Dems backed by Gates’ Center for American Progress.
These vids are just wonderful. What a treat! Thank you!
Will be my homework this weekend. I’ll be ready for the quiz on Monday morning. Also started reading Noliwe Rooks’s Cutting School. The opening sentence is perfect: “The road necessarily traveled to achieve freedom and equality in the United States leads directly through public education.”
Greg,
You will enjoy Rooks. You would also enjoy Eve Ewings’ “Ghosts in the Schoolyard.”
Thank you for the videos of the community meeting. I hope that AOC can encourage Latinx parents to stand up for their students. It is easy for school districts to ignore this population as they are often very accepting of what authoritarian figures tell them. The whole idea of being an advocate for their children is foreign concept that has to be learned over time.

A U.S. PR firm with a Spanish sounding name claimed at its site that it had high ideals. Evidently, the firm’s business plan positioned it as a paid spokesperson for those non-profits wanting to message to American Black and Latin communities. The PR site posted two interviews recently. One was with a manager from a charter school investment fund and, the other was with an executive at a billionaire-funded foundation, who had been part of the Duncan team at the U.S. Dept. of Education. She had the expected Broad and Gates affiliations.
