Is it a new day in California?
Too soon to know but there was one good sign today.
The State Board of Education, which in the past had approved charters that had been rejected by districts and then by counties, rejected the appeal by Thrive charter schools of San Diego for renewal. Superintendent Cindy Marten came with staff and data to show that Thrive was not doing well by children. In the past, the facts were not enough. Today, they were.
Today was Linda Darling-Hammond’s first meeting as chair of the state education board. She cares about facts, data, and students. Thrive lost.
This is what Tom Ultican wrote about Thrive last fall.

The charter sector is not going away
= we cannot eliminate any key organs or bodily functions, like the need of our anus to release our bowel movements.
but it should play by:
1) the same academic, ethical, professional, and financial rules as public schools
= we need a clear understanding to HAVE a safe, clean, and economically sound environment in a public human way of life.
2) and it should not drain resources away from the public schools.
= The public should not be paying to clean up private waste
3) Charters should be audited and monitored to the same extent as public schools.
&
4) Certification requirements for charter teachers and principals and superintendents should be no less than for public schools.
= Private washrooms operating in public space – and disposing waste in public sewage – must have the same sanitation standards as public washrooms.
5) Only educators, not entrepreneurs, should be allowed to operate charters.
= Only experts in sanitation should be allowed to operate DISPOSAL WASTE MANAGEMENT INFRASTRUCTURE.
6) Charters should open only in districts that approve them and need them, and when they close, their students and property should revert to the public schools.
= PRIVATE WASTE organizations should only develop where there is a sufficient density of population (and demand). As a public good, the built up waste management infrastructure should belong to the public once private management has ceased.
7) Charters should enroll the same demographic as the district in which they are located.
= Private waste should be LOCALLY managed.
8) If I had my druthers, charter chains would be banned, as would charters managed by foreign entities.
= If whole communities stood together, non-local actors would not be overseeing key public infrastructure.
Above all, I just want to emphasize the importance of having a national standard and a national certification system in education, with NATIONAL INPUT. Back2basic.
UNITE WE STAND, DIVIDE WE FALL
I do not see how corrupted government officials can overpower LOCAL VOTERS OF ALL UNITED EDUCATORS WITH NATIONAL CERTIFICATION IN USA who conscientiously EMPHASIZE TO ALL STUDENTS and THEIR PARENTS THE IMPORTANT and ESSENTIAL PUBLIC EDUCATION IN AMERICA.

I am sorry to miss my own introduction to my above writing.
I try to have my own articulation in my plain language which might suit to someone really understand me without any criticism. Here is my introduction that I hope my beloved greatest wise Historian will approve my common sense language. Back2basic
[start introduction]
I would like to speak on this issue as, despite being a sick and old lady, I am smart enough to stay away from private fraudsters – hustlers of public taxpayers funds – masquerading as public-private institutions.
Most of all, I would definitely avoid interacting with educators lacking a community-oriented conscience or even with such a conscience BUT being too arrogant to gather with people of all levels in or out of their own representative regions.
Last of all, to be neutral with all CA and LA parents, I am using my own plain language without in the name of my famous beloved greatest champion for public schools.

Hey: I saw this “protest” at the Capitol and attended interesting session on TFA. Got my taxes done and met with Great, G. Grandson of John Muir about new leadership for the John Muir center in Coulterville, CA. Took this photo in Alabama during travels. Represents Civil Rights Action, Rosie Carpenter, Dr. Brown others “PARAMOUNT” named to change from “training school” … names for Black County schools across Alabama through the 60’s-70’s – non-accredited. Dr. Brown saw to it this and all schools in Greene County became accredited. NCLB/RttT became a new iteration to -discredit- Black and poor people’s schools. It’s happening right now in Greeley Hill, CA. A. Duncan, Obama’s Sec. of Education spoke at this event in Sacramento to support Charter Schools. “I’ve been to the Mountain Top and I may not get there with you” MLK said. Thus, PARAMOUNT HIGH SCHOOL … action with BOD in Greene County at the time.
