New Governor Ron DeSantis wants another voucher program that would take money directly from public school funding.
Current voucher programs drain $1 billion from public schools. Their teachers need not be certified. They are free to discriminate. They teach religious myths. They don’t take state tests.

DeSantis claims that the voucher program produces better results and that more of these students attend college. Where are the actual statistics on the program? It is also possible that the students that apply for vouchers have more savvy parents than the typical poor student in a public school. It seems to me that these ‘scholarships’ are a way to offer a cheap alternative to mostly poor, minority students.
The union already challenged these so-called scholarships and lost in court. Since a lot of the money is going to religious schools, we need some atheist to challenge the fact that his public money is going religious institutions. If Catholics can challenge paying for birth control in health plan, why can’t an atheist challenge the fact that public money going to religious institutions offends his religion, atheism?

Actually, the unions won in 2006 that state tax money cannot be directly given to private religious schools via vouchers. That is what DeSantis is proposing. He believes a new court challenge will go his way despite the precedent because of the three conservative FL supreme court justices he appointed. (What the courts did not strike down is the existing voucher program, where corporations donate to a non-profit and take a tax credit for their donation. Because the money does not pass through a state agency, it is not deemed public money.)

Middle class, public school educated kid grew up studying hard and playing sports, gets into Yale, gets a law degree….yet he has this bizarre idolization of Bush and Trump and sucks up to them whenever he’s given the opportunity. Why isn’t lobbying illegal?
I am not an American and I can hardly say that I understand all the fine details within the American politic system. Now, I grew up inside the American society ( with ética , exchanging on the best behalf to help others / no hurt ( Help and I’m not saying that the sistem is perfect; however to my knowledge bribery is not directly legal in usa .. however it seems that bribery is very deeply implemented in the American politic system.. am I getting that right?
A few questions in that direction:
1. What is the difference between lobbying and bribing?
2. Does one need something like a “lobbying license” or something like that do lobby?
3. The Money which lobbyists give to officials, is that documented somewhere or is it actually “under the table” without any official knowledge of it?
4. Why, even though everybody knows how lobbying affects American politics, does never anybody speak out against it? Why are there no major protests against lobbying?
In short: Why isn’t lobbying illegal?
Why I feel like post things like this cause as well people who fight for the constitution or for this country ( PTSD is part of it right ? I’m feeling very bad regarding what government did to my family

Correct, Putin’s Russia has a huge army but, and this is a very big BUT, the US and EU militaries are better equipped, better trained, and have much higher morale.
North America, the US and Canada, and the EU combined have a population that is several times that of Russia. That means in a long conventional war with Russia, Russia losses. Russia will run out of conscripted troops faster. Even if the Russian kill two of our troops to everyone of their deaths, they will run out of able bodied citizens to force into the military to fight.
Even in a nuclear war, Russia can’t win. Even though the entire world will be threatened due to what follows a nuclear war, there will be little or nothing left of Russia after the EU and US retaliate if Putin uses nuclear weapons.
Then there is the manufacturing sector where the trucks, tanks, jets, misses, bombs, bullets, et al, are made, Russia is ranked 12th in the world, The US is second, close behind China. Once we add in the combined manufacturing ablate of the EU, Russia is burnt toast ten times over. Russia does not have the ability to replace weapons that are destroyed in battle like the US, Japan, South Korea, Canada, and the EU does.

I agree. There isn’t much we can do but pray and hope Putin is taken out. Whoever does it will probably have to be someone close to him in the power structure in Russia. That’s usually what happens to monsters like Putin and Trump.
There’s an old saying “birds of a feather flock together” and that means Putin is not the only monster in his flock. Another monster might be thinking he or she deserves the power Putin holds and gets rid of Putin to take over.
Then as usual when that happens there will be a struggle at the top between all the power brokers and sometimes an unexpected leader comes out on top that isn’t as horrible as Putin and the one that takes him out.

How only 10 years after Berlin Walls falls Moscow was the expensive capital of the world and as everyone knows ( Russia interference with the election who give the victory to little finger . Only a couples decades after and Russians are able to penetrate our intelligence with the most advanced technology . How many trillion went to Russian to help them from us ? How if Reagan did a great Job after signing the most important deal in the cool war era ( 60 years the world on panic and now the world in more panic, how Putin was able to get in and destroy what Reagan the CIA and Gorbachev agreed to stop and destroy the weapons of mass destruction. How was posible? No one protected the great Job that Reagan did ? To many questions looking for only one answer!

From what I have been reading and learning about Putin, he grew up hating the West. the US, UK and EU.
But in 1991, when the Soviet Union’s toxic Empire collapsed he was 39 years old and only a KGP agent. From what I’ve been told, Putin’s His father was Stalin’s cook, someone Stalin trusted, a Stalin loyalist for sure. No telling what Putin’s childhood must have been like with his father a loyal Stalinist.
It took time for Putin to build the power and become Russia’s leader. From Putin’s speeches and interviews, it’s apparent that his dream and goals were to bring back that Soviet Empire in all its glory and power, with him as its leader, maybe even another Stalin, a greater Stalin.
Putin wants to be one of the few most powerful world leaders, not the leader of a 3rd rate economic power with a lot of nuclear weapons left over from the Soviet era. Russia has a lot of military but they are second rate.
For Putin to achieve his goals to be stronger and more successful than Stalin, he has to destroy most if not all of the world’s democracies. And taht is what he’d been doing for the last 20 years or more, with all the attacks through the internet and the world’s democracies and their leader, the U.S. That ‘s also why he supported Trump for president in 2016 and again in 2020. Putin saw Trump for who he really is, the worst possible president for the United States and leader for any country, even the poorest one. Trump doesn’t know it but he was used because he had a history of failing and Trump became another nail in the coffin Putin was building to bury the United States in.

I thought it was sad he held a rally/marketing event to promote the private schools. The ed reform echo chamber, led by DeVos, were all celebrating.
Ed reformers don’t even see the extent they exclude public school students and families from these political campaigns. Our schools and students are SO devalued they don’t even merit a mention.
If you were reading the echo chamber last week you would think every family in this country attends a private school. It’s not even that they don’t add any value to public schools- although they don’t. It’s that they don’t address public school families AT ALL.
It’s deliberate. It’s intended to convey to the public schools and students are “lesser” and the public can’t count on politicians supporting public schools. Our schools simply no longer appear AT ALL at any of these political campaigns they’re conducting on our dime.

They simply no longer work on behalf of public schools. We’re paying thousands and thousands of federal and state employees who are actively opposed to the continued existence of our schools. At the federal level it’s complete capture. They’ve culled all the remaining dissenters from the ranks. 100% lock step. Announce a “choice” promotion, ANY choice promotion, and the entire echo chamber applauds.
Florida could announce tomorrow that the goal was to eradicate all the public schools by 2030 and ed reform would be discussing how to close the schools most efficiently.

The federal department of education has jurisdiction on education. Public, private, it does not matter.
There are many people all across the spectrum, who advocate abolishing the federal dept of education. I am one of them.
Education can and should be a state/municipal responsibility. Why should Washington bureaucrats, get involved in dictating education policy across this nation?

Outside the echo chamber there’s some cracks in the “Florida Miracle” – it looks to me like they’re cooking the books on graduation rates by not counting all the students who leave and go to the unregulated education services sector.
Ed reform scams all eventually implode. It takes a really long time because “the movement” is an echo chamber,. but outside actors eventually examine the claims.
By the time we get real information on Florida they’ll have privatized every school in the state.

“Money for the program would come out of the state’s main public-education funding program.” DeSantis may get stopped in his tracks by that little detail. Meanwhile the big FL voucher program is funded by ESA’s so it flies under voters’ [& probably some Rep legislators’] radar.
I’d like to see the figures on what ESA’s cost in corporate revenue lost to the state– added into pubsch & chartersch revenue for a true FL per-pupil spending figure… Then just for the heck of it, current FL NEAP stats compared to pre-charter/ voucher days, w/pre-& post-per-pupil spending figs. Anybody ever add any of that up for a closer look at the value of J Bush’s FL ed policies?
