Teach for America is advertising for a lobbyist. They want someone with real experience, not like the five weeks of training they think is enough for teachers. I got an email today from a friend who found out why Kansas paid TFA $270,000 to get three TFA recruits: the TFA lobbyist in Kansas sold a legislator on the idea. The legislator is embarrassed by all the publicity and is not likely to offer that bill again.
Mercedes Schneider writes anout TFA ad for a lobbyist. You can bet the lobbyist will be paid more than a TFA teacher.

TFA is looking to hire a new prostitute, with experience.

What’s in a name?
A lobbyist for TFA
In other words, a whore
Does whatever things they say
Sometimes, even more!

A lobbyist for TFA is a LOT worse than a prostitute.
And what is worse than a prostitute? Donald Trump, Eva Moskowitz, and a lot more names we could add.

It’s really time to cut off public funding for these charter lobbyists. Let Gates or Broad or Hastings pay them- I don’t want to.
They return no value to public schools, and since public schools constitute the vast majority of schools I am tired of paying people to lobby against the VAST majority of students and families.
I want an effective advocate in the federal government and ed reformers are lousy advocates. I want new people. Twenty years of public schools losing under ed reform advocacy is enough. Find better advocates.

As an alumnus, my husband receives the Wharton magazine. Their “30 under 30 Disruptors” is a perfect example. Most of what these young people are doing is figuring out a way for them to make money by undercutting the customary way in which a good or service is delivered. Thus, we have Uber or Lyft undercutting traditional cab service, and taxi drivers that worked hard for a medallion are shooting themselves in the head because they can no longer make a living. Frankly, these people are being trained to blow up the status quo without any regard for the consequences or collateral damage. As far as public education dollars go, the key to domination is to buy the power that pulls the pulls the purse strings. This is the main reason they are spending so heavily on lobbyists.
The only way to stop the corporate incursion is to mobilize and vote for representatives that will defend public education as a democratic value. These lobbyists represent the interests of the 1%, not the public. We need the power of the people to defend our right to a free public education.

I’d bet that the job is already going to one of their alums who works on Capitol Hill. I’d also bet they are posting this job in order to create a false picture of transparency.

Very glad to hear that the Kansas legislator was called out for such foolishness. More lessons exist to be learned.
