Maybe you remember the off-year election in 2017 when Jon Ossoff ran for what was once Newt Gingrich’s seat. He raised millions of dollars but was beaten by Karen Handel.
This morning, Republican Karen Handel conceded to Democrat Lucy McBath in the same ruby-red district.
Lucy McBath, who is African-American, is a gun control activist, who says she was inspired to run by the activism of the students at the Majorie Stoneman Douglas high school after the massacre there last February. McBath’s son was killed in 2012 in a dispute, which was believed to be a hate crime. McBath became an outspoken advocate for gun control, and now she will be a member of Congress.

Jon Ossoff was so far to the “center” that he was pretty much a Republican. It’s worth noting again that Republicans masquerading as Democrats can’t defeat actual Republicans. Just a note to the DNC in case they’re thinking of running, say, Cory Booker (or any other neoliberal) in 2020.

Good news. And a lot of courage in taking up the challenges of running for office.

Now, lay on, McBath! And damned be him who first cries, Hold! Enough!
