Andrew Tobias writes about personal finances and whatever else interests him. I subscribe to his blog. We disagree about Eva (he is mad about her, I am not), but not much else.
You don’t bring a bone saw to a fist fight. Our president is the only person in the world, other than some Saudis, who pretends to believe otherwise. It’s ludicrous.
And evil. Murder is proscribed in the Bible. Freedom of the press is enshrined in the Constitution. Murdering journalists — whom the founders saw as agents, not enemies, of the people — is a mortal sin that erodes democracy. Trump pals Putin and Duterte and Erdogan and Mohammed Bin Salman murder journalists.
Denying native Americans their right to vote is so Republican. As you’ve probably heard, Republicans have devised a way to block long-time voters from voting this time, by adding a new requirement: their ID must include a street address. But Indian reservations don’t have streets. Republicans couldn’t come up with a proposal for the “replace” part of repealing Obamacare, but boy can they make things happen when it comes to suppressing the vote. I mean, in fairness, what right do Native Americans have to vote? Why are they here, anyway? They don’t look like us. As the old saying goes, “go back to . . .” Oh, wait.
It’s the economy, stupid:
President Obama took the Bush Collapse and got the unemployment rate down by five percentage points — despite unprecedented obstruction from the Republican Congress — even as he got the National Debt back to shrinking relative to the economy as a whole (as Clinton had also done).
Trump has managed to keep the Obama Recovery going, trimming the unemployment rate by yet another percentage point — even as he has exploded the deficit, growing the National Debt faster than the economy ((as Bush and Reagan did).
See the difference?
You don’t think this is going to come back and bite us?
You don’t think the Republican tax cut for corporations and their wealthiest shareholders won’t cut into the programs so many normal Americans rely on?
Mitch McConnell says it out loud! Republicans are gunning for Social Security, Medicare and Obamacare!

It’s hard to take seriously anyone who supports Eva Moskowitz. Andrew Tobias has a lot of chutzpah criticizing anyone who buys into the Republican rhetoric given that he obviously buys into all the Eva Moskowitz rhetoric.
No doubt Andrew Tobias agrees with Eva Moskowitz when she demanded that Betsy DeVos be confirmed for the good of students everywhere. And if you believe that, why not believe the propaganda put out by the Republicans?
My own criticism of Trump and the Republicans ultimately is about people who refuse to tell the truth or have an honest discussion about the issues because their ultimate goal is power and promoting themselves and they don’t care how they achieve it.
And that is my criticism of Eva Moskowitz. To embrace her propaganda and dishonesty while criticizing Trump and the Republicans for doing the same thing just makes Tobias look like a hypocrite.
Tobias certainly seems to embrace dishonesty and propaganda when it suits his purposes. I suggest he look inward to help him understand why other people are willing to overlook the dishonesty when it comes to Republicans.

Yep. I can’t even begin to recall all of the things that have distracted us (I include myself in that royal “us”) in the 11 or so months since the Republicans rammed that tax bill through. The ramifications of Trump’s fiscal policy are going to be much more damaging to working Americans (which means most Americans) than any of the other issues that have been dominating headlines this year. Including, I dare say, Elizabeth Warren’s DNA test results.

With the exception of Putin, all of those are not just “pals” of Trump, they (and the countries they represent) are bedrock allies of the U.S. and have been for decades through both Republican and Democratic establishments. Time did not start in January of 2017, but I guess it’s okay when it’s a Democratic administration that is, say, supporting the Saudi destruction and genocide of Yemen.

You are welcome, speduktr. Here is a less entertaining article about the growing Georgia election scandal.
Title: “In Leaked Audio, Brian Kemp Expresses Concern Over Georgians Exercising Their Right to Vote”
Reminder: Kemp is both a candidate for governor and is the current secretary of state and
Kemp’s recent decision to suspend more than 53,000 voter applications, 70 percent of which were filed by black residents, for violating the state’s “exact match” verification standard has drawn attention to his penchant for restrictive voter laws and purging of voter rolls. American Public Media reported last week that Kemp purged an estimated 107,000 voters last year simply because they didn’t vote in the prior election. He is also being sued for leaving more than 6 million Georgia voting records open to hacking.
