If the New York Times’ reporting about Trump tax evasion is accurate, the New York tax authorities will come after him. They are careful and relentless. According to the business paper Crain’s New York, Trump might owe $400 million in taxes.

N.Y. tax agency weighs Trump probe after report alleging his family used tax-avoidance schemes, fraud to build wealth
By David A. Fahrenthold Washington Post 6 hrs ago
New York state’s tax agency said it is considering an investigation into allegations detailed in a New York Times story that President Trump participated in “dubious tax schemes” that allowed his father to pass him more than $413 million while minimizing tax payments.
In some instances, these schemes amounted to “outright fraud,” the Times story said…
Highlights
A New York Times storyidentifies several avenues through which Fred Trump’s wealth was passed to his children. Among them:
● The family created a business, All County Building Supply & Maintenance, which was supposed to be a middleman between Fred Trump’s company and its vendors. Then, the story said, Fred Trump’s company overpaid All County for those services, based on phony, inflated invoices, and All County kept the difference.
● In December 1991, Fred Trump sold his 7.5 percent stake in the Trump Palace condominium building on Manhattan’s Upper East Side to his son. The stake was worth about $15.5 million, the Times said, but Donald Trump bought it for just $10,000 — allowing his father to dodge millions in tax liability.
● In the years before his father’s death, the Times said, Donald Trump participated in an effort to systematically lower the appraised values of Fred Trump’s buildings. That included dividing their ownership among a series of new companies to give the impression that Fred Trump did not control them.
The Times described these machinations as the “alchemy of turning real estate that would soon be valued at nearly $900 million into $41.4 million.”…

It sounds like Fred was ahead of his time. He would have been a great charter school fraudster. He could have bilked the public out of millions more. He already knew how to play the real estate cheat game.

Imagine the lies Trump will tell and tweet his deplorable base about that fine if it comes to pass.

Yes, and it will be Obama’s and Hillary’s fault not just the NYTimes and fake news.

To the GOP and Trump everything is always Hillary’s fault. If a big meteor hit Earth killing billions, it would be her fault.
When the next global epidemic hits and kills millions or even billions, it will be her fault.
If Trump is impeached, it will be her fault.
If in four years, the economy collapses, it will be her fault or Bill’s and Trump will boast he is the only president in US history that can save the US as he digs the hole deeper until he comes out on the other side of the planet and brags who a great hole digger he is, the greatest in history.
To Trump, nothing is ever Trump’s fault.
And nothing is ever the new, extremist GOP’s fault. The old GOP might have admitted some blame but not Trump’s GOP.

The key word in the title of the post is “could”. The question is will they? Two bits to a dollar says that they won’t collect anything.

Does a fine of $400 million really matter much to Trump? [Really, anything against him is a step in the right direction.] The fine he paid for Trump University didn’t make a dent on his thinking.
We have no idea of how much money he has but I want to see him spend some time in prison…with NO iPhone. That would give the whole world some peace. Actually, I’d want him to spend time in a for-profit prison. They don’t give decent food and don’t have money for decent healthcare. He wants to expand the for-profit prisons. He should get a taste of what he promotes.

An ironic twist perhpas: it is very likely that Trump’s current investment portfolio has much to do with for-profit prison and detention center stock rising, rising, rising…
