During the 2016 campaign, Trump said he would release his tax returns when the IRS audit was finished. Apparently, that audit will never be completed. The New York Times says there is a reason that Trump is hiding his tax returns. The Times says that the Trump family engaged in fraudulent practices to avoid paying taxes. Also during the campaign, Trump asserted that smart people (like him) avoid taxes. If everyone were that smart, the government would not have enough revenue to provide any public services. No Social Security, no Medicare, no military, no foreign aid, no federal courts, no disease control, no environmental protection, no national parks, no government services without revenues.
Here is the Washington Post summary of the Times’ voluminous report, Plus news that New York’s Tax Agency will investigate whether it was cheated by the Trump family.
“New York state’s tax agency said it is considering an investigation into allegations detailed in a New York Times story that President Trump participated in “dubious tax schemes” that allowed his father to pass him more than $413 million while minimizing tax payments.
“In some instances, these schemes amounted to “outright fraud,” the Times story said.
The Times said it had unraveled a complex effort by Trump’s father, Fred, to build and then pass along his wealth by examining more than 100,000 pages of documents from the businesses of Fred Trump. It said that, starting in the 1990s, Donald Trump had helped his father lower his tax bills via a sham corporation that processed padded invoices, by using improper tax deductions and by systematically undervaluing his father’s real estate properties.
“The Tax Department is reviewing the allegations in the [Times] article and is vigorously pursuing all appropriate avenues of investigation,” said James Gazzale, a spokesman for the New York Department of Taxation and Finance.
“On Capitol Hill, some Democrats renewed calls for Trump to release his tax returns — which he has repeatedly declined to do, unlike his predecessors.”
If the Democrats win control of the House in November, they can hold hearings that compel the release of Trump’s financial records.
Tax evasion is a crime. Lock him up!

We need some laws that demand anyone seeking public office be required to release tax returns. Politicians can make any promises they want during a campaign. What they have done in the past is the best indicator of how they will act in the future. They say there is is no honor among thieves and apparently not much among a lot of politicians. The public should have access to this information.

Trump Engaged in Suspect Tax Schemes as He Reaped Riches From His Father – The New York Times
by David Lindsay Jr
“The most overt fraud was All County Building Supply & Maintenance, a company formed by the Trump family in 1992. All County’s ostensible purpose was to be the purchasing agent for Fred Trump’s buildings, buying everything from boilers to cleaning supplies. It did no such thing, records and interviews show. Instead All County siphoned millions of dollars from Fred Trump’s empire by simply marking up purchases already made by his employees. Those millions, effectively untaxed gifts, then flowed to All County’s owners — Donald Trump, his siblings and a cousin. Fred Trump then used the padded All County receipts to justify bigger rent increases for thousands of tenants.”

One can hear the same old argument: The elite (the poor never get a chance for those illegalities to get that far in the past) shouldn’t be held accountable for things sooo far in the past when they were young and naive and didn’t know any better. Been hearing a lot of that lately.

People can be naive, perhaps even somewhat reckless in their youth.
Everybody makes mistakes. However, when someone knowingly does something greatly dishonest or knowingly hurts another person or animal, these actions speak more to character or even mental instability, IMHO.

He, as stated above PROMISED to release his tax returns.
We are still waiting.
Why won’t he release them? My educated guess is for many reasons. He MAY have had dealings with the Russians which if known would blow him off the map. He, it would seem from the latest N Y. TIMES research show what a liar, scoundrel, and tax evader he really is.
This is of course conjecture except for what the latest research shows. There MAY be even more reasons. Who knows when he lies without pause and his tax returns are hidden..

If the NYT found this through investigation, you’ll have to excuse me for salivating at the thought of what Mueller’s team may have already found. Enquiring minds want to know.

If the Democrats take back control of one or both Houses of Congress, there will be no shortage of stuff to investigate when it comes to Donald Trump. There are so many alleged crimes by Trump and Co. that it could take a century or more to get through them all.

Trump is a con man.
Impeach. There’s so much dirt on him and it’s ALL right in front of us.
At best, he’s a treasonous liar.

The only reason Trump has not been impeached so far is because the equally corrupt GOP holds the majority in both Houses of Congress explaining why the Republicans are working so hard to see totally corrupt BK (the angry drunken serial rapist) on the US Supreme Court.

We can dream. I’m afraid that the Orange Hair Monster will not be ever put in prison. [Hopefully New York state will get him. We have a chance there.] He has too many in Congress who support him. Pence would certainly pardon him if it is possible. Pence is another disaster walking. If anything goes to the Supreme Court we know how the majority would rule. K is waiting to be confirmed by Friday, tomorrow.

If convicted on state charges, Trump cannot be pardoned by the president.

Anybody, who says such a thing should be immediately investigated. Like Lindsay Graham,
“It’s really American to avoid paying taxes, legally,” Graham said, adding, “As long as it was legal, I’m OK with it. I don’t blame anybody for using the tax code to their advantage.”

Trump’s mockery of Ford reveals nothing about her and everything about him
The Washington Post Published 8:12 pm EDT, Wednesday, October 3, 2018
…If you think the Democrats mishandled Ford’s allegations, fine. If you think K’s high school behavior is less relevant than his adult record, fine again. But a decent human being could hold those thoughts and make those arguments without besmirching Ford, and without casting doubt more generally on the memories and accounts of assault survivors….
K fanned Trump’s insidious line of attack when he charged last Thursday that “this whole two-week effort has been a calculated and orchestrated political hit, fueled with apparent pent-up anger about President Trump and the 2016 election” and an act of “revenge on behalf of the Clintons.” Whether K really believes this story or just said it to impress Trump, it was an unfounded smear. He, too, had an alternative; he could have proclaimed his innocence without resorting to such false accusations.
The judge’s conspiracy-mongering and Trump’s mockery both serve to set back the nation’s progress in understanding this kind of crime and will discourage victims from coming forward. Maybe Trump sees that as a plus. It certainly reveals more to the nation about his character than about Ford’s.

Trump Faces Probe Into Tax Fraud Following New York Times Exposé
Amy GoodmanDemocracy Now!
PUBLISHED
October 4, 2018
The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance has opened an investigation into President Trump for fraud and tax evasion following a major exposé by the New York Times revealing that Trump inherited nearly half a billion dollars of his family’s wealth through tax dodges and outright fraud. New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio has also called for a city probe, and Democratic Senator Ron Wyden has urged the IRS to investigate the president. The Times’ 13,000-word investigative report found the late Fred and Mary Trump transferred more than $1 billion in wealth to their children, paying less than 5 percent of the $550 million in taxes they should have paid under inheritance tax rates. Donald Trump also helped his parents undervalue real estate holdings by hundreds of millions of dollars on IRS tax returns in order to reduce taxes. We speak with David Barstow, three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter for The New York Times and the lead author on the new investigation, “Trump Engaged in Suspect Tax Schemes as He Reaped Riches From His Father.” Barstow shares a byline with Susanne Craig and Russ Buettner…
NERMEEN SHAIKH: And then there could be a criminal prosecution?
DAVID BARSTOW: Potentially, although let’s be real here — the IRS is a much-weakened agency. It has been quite devastated by budget cuts over the years. And certainly, the IRS — not talking about state authorities now; I’m talking about the federal IRS — has said absolutely nothing in response to this article. I think the more realistic accountability that’s there is this potential for civil fraud. There is no statute of limitations for civil tax fraud. And so both — in this case, the state tax authorities, that can be a very powerful weapon if they decide to actually use it, to go back and look at these transactions.
