When Leslie Stahl interviewed Betsy DeVos about her home state of Michigan, DeVos changed the subject to Florida.
Michigan’s scores on NAEP have been plummeting for the past decade, since DeVos and her money took charge of education.
The charter sector is not held accountable and it is not transparent.

It is clear that the frustrated parent in the beginning of the video understands that the system has been rigged against public schools and minorities. If you under fund and drain enough money from public education, parents will accept a better, safer, cleaner option for their children. The so called rigged choice is no magic bullet and comes with its own set of problems. Parents lose their voice, and the school is run like a business. If the school fails to turn a profit, it will close leaving students stranded.
It is no accident the DeVos family wanted to show off the cherry on the top of their privatized sundae. The aeronautic academy is is highly selective, and on top of this there is a lottery. It is a well funded, beautiful school for a very select few mostly white students. In the original Vice story, Dick DeVos made a big show that this year a black student has been selected for the pilot program for the first time. All I could think about was the Tuskegee Airmen, who once given a chance, kicked the Germany’s tail and earned a Distinguished Unit Citation.

Of course the aeronautics program is highly selective. The DeVos family wants only the best, most loyal pilots to fly their fleet of private jets. I would expect there will soon be a yacht captain program as well, for their ten superyachts. Betsy’s brother trains the private security mercenaries. I wonder where they develop the butlers.

All going according to plan. Don’t you get it? DeVos wants all schools to fail, and all is good so long as the $$$ ends up in the right hands. She and her ilk are engineering the total collapse of learning — on purpose.
