The world breathlessly watches as the Thai government’s seeks to rescue all of the 12 children and their coach trapped in a flooded cave, and cheer as each emerges, saved. At the same time, many people of the U.S. watch in horror at home as 3,000 children are lost, separated from their families at the border and dispersed to distant locations. The government was ordered by a federal court to reunite the children with their parents, at least those under the age of 5, now. UNDER THE AGE OF 5. The government says that’s too short a deadline. Where are the children? What about the children who are 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, etc. these are not adults. Where are they?

The juxtaposition of the rescue of the 12 boys and coach in Thailand with the detention of children in the U.S. is truly stunning. We know more about what is happening in a remote part of Thailand than we do about the children within our borders. What’s wrong with this picture?

We have to hold Republicans accountable who stand silent while 3000 children are shipped thousands of miles from their mothers. This is one of the meanest and most immoral acts of any administration in the last 100 years. To torture children as deterrent to parents seeking a better life in the USA displays the rotten core of Republican leaders.

Where are our representatives? I find it hard to believe that if all of the Democratic reps went to the detention centers and raised hell that they couldn’t stop this horrific situation of child abduction and abuse. If the kids in Thailand can be rescued in less than 2 weeks, why can’t ICE be shut down in a day? I know that the legal ngos like Raices could sort out this disaster faster than any of the uneducated and bigoted people working for ICE. Everyone complicit in this should be tried for crimes against humanity.
