I don’t know all the details of Trump’s executive order but then neither does he. This much is clear. There are no plans to reunite the 2,342 children with their parents who are now incarcerated. They have been sent to various cities. Do you want one? Apparently the administration plans to incarcerate entire families.
One thing is certain: the Trump policy is cruel, incoherent, and unplanned.
The babies in cages may never see their parents again.
We are an international pariah. We are led by a cruel sociopath.

You are exactly right. And we know what this sort of trauma does to children and their ability to learn and succeed. And these little ones no doubt already were experiencing trauma in their home countries–poverty and violence.
And yet this administration touts the high stock market and GDP as evidence of their success, all the while they unravel all (not exaggerating, I mean all) of the policies that protect the majority of Americans. If this keeps up, we’ll have no clean water, climate change will flood our cities, our wildlife will rapidly disappear, people will suffer without health care, our schools will crumble, people will be defrauded and will not stand a chance at reparations (the disappearance of consumer protections), and we will have no rational nation state allies.
But hey, our stock market will be roaring!

So, I did immigration casework for Senator Fritz Hollings, studied immigration law at law school under a former INS general counsel, and worked for a border Congressman in the district that included the Rio Grande Valley. So hear me out:
1. These people in detention have not committed a crime.
2. I don’t mean that in a moral or a figurative sense. I mean literally. It is NOT a crime to ask for asylum.
3. These people didn’t jump a fence, they didn’t sneak into the back yard. They are knocking on the front door and saying “People are trying to kill me in my home country, will you let me in?”
4. Now, I didn’t fall off the turnip truck. Some of these people are lying. That’s why you have a hearing. And because they might wander off, these people are held in detention until the hearing.
5. This hearing is NOT in a criminal court. It’s in an immigration court. Because these people have not committed a crime.
6. Immigration court is not like criminal court. You don’t have a right to an attorney.
7. So these people are waiting around, separated from their children, with no attorney, until they get a hearing.
8. In 2015, the median wait for an immigration hearing was 404 days.
9. Here’s where it gets even more twisted.
10. If people plead guilty to asylum fraud, they get their kids back and get deported.
11. So these people knock on the front door, which is perfectly legal, and we take their kids, and tell them the quickest way to get them back is to confess.
12. If someone committed a crime – shoplifting, armed robbery, murder – and you took their kids away to make them confess, that confession would be thrown out.
13. But these confessions are lawful, because this isn’t criminal court.
14. Because these people haven’t committed a crime.
15. Now some people think that if we make it so unpleasant for these people, they will stop trying to cross the border.
16. But the message this sends isn’t “Go Home.” The message it sends is “Sneak in.”
17. If they go home, they think they will be murdered. If they request asylum, they are separated from their children.
18. If they sneak in successfully, they’re safe. If they sneak in and get caught, they are no worse off than if they sought asylum legally.
19. And remember, these people haven’t committed a crime. https://www.facebook.com/wapofactchecker/videos/622209498159791/?t=0

Most of those arrested for misdemeanor border violations had been turned away from entry points because “we’re too busy.” They then cross elsewhere to avoid the violence they are fleeing, and are arrested. It’s like the police closing a crosswalk, arresting you for jaywalking when you cross next to it, and then throwing you in jail instead of giving you a ticket. That’s what America is doing.

Trump’s newest order does not end the “zero-tolerance” policy that criminally prosecutes all adults caught crossing the border illegally, but it aims to keep families together while they are in custody, expedite their cases and asks the U.S. Department of Defense to help house families. Under the Obama administration, such families were usually referred for civil deportation proceedings, not requiring separation.
“U.S. Department of Defense to help house families”…what nonsense is this?

“Statement from Montanans for Immigrant Justice and Missoula Rises re: Trump’s Pending Executive Order to Stop Separating Families
Trump has indicated that he will be signing an Executive Order today to stop separating families when they initially cross the border. While this is movement in the right direction, DO NOT BE FOOLED by what this Order does. Here are the facts thus far:
1. Families will not be immediately separated, but they will be held in detention together.
2. Crossing the border “illegally” will no longer be deemed a civil violation, it will be deemed a criminal violation.
3. Because it is a criminal violation the parents will be charged criminally. At that point, their children will be forcibly taken.
4. The Executive Order will provide a provision that families will be expedited through the criminal process. This means that the removal of their children will be expedited.
There is still a need for the Tent Cities. There will still be Tender Age Facilities. This serves as optics for Trump to claim he is not ripping families apart. He is. The GOP are. They are just hiding in in the fine print.
Understand this is a result of the pressure we and others have exerted. WE made this change. But this is not the solution. He anticipates this will temper our moral outrage. Do not let it. This is not close to enough. This is not a victory for those families crossing the border.”

All answers are wrong if the question is invalid. Nearly everyone stipulates to the idea that illegal immigration is a grave problem. Then we argue over the means.
It is propaganda. Immigration has trended down. The rhetoric about asylum seekers is false and manipulative. In the latest available data, there were a total of 5,727 immigrants granted asylum from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador. Yet Trump claims we are “overrun” or “infested.”
He claims MS-13 violence is rampant. In El Paso County, the epicenter of all this turmoil, there were 3 – 3! – MS-13 members charged with violent crime in the last few years – in a county with a population of nearly 1 million.
He claims the previous policy – “catch and release” – resulted in people not showing up for hearings. In fact, 99% showed up for hearings, even if they were headed for deportation.
Trump has manufactured a problem so as to impose a “solution.” In this manipulation, we miss that he is essentially moving to limit the number of brown people in America, in order to Make America as White as Possible.
We are all complicit by way of our falling for this propaganda campaign.

The Executive Order is all about normalizing the idea of indefinite “detention” (imprisonment) of entire families (i.e., concentration camps).
Imagine if, a couple months ago, Trump had announced, “we’re going to put every family that crosses our southern border into internment camps”. People would have gone wild. Reminders of the internment of Japanese-American families would have been flying.
But now, after a couple weeks of being flooded with stories, pictures and audio of very young children being forcefully separated from their parents and held in cages crying inconsolably, Trump announces (as if giving in to public pressure) that he’s ordering it to stop. From now on families will be detained together – no more separations.
Now the country breathes a sigh of relief – whew, glad that’s over!
Trump’s goal is and has always been the “need” to build entire new prison cities (oh, but call them something nicer like “detention centers”). That will require dozens of contracts worth hundreds of millions each for construction, supplies, agencies to run these facilities, companies to provide transportation, etc. Think of all the rich people that can get even richer!
Immigration of all them dirty brown ferriners? Solved! (Keeps the voting base happy) Need to make his cronies happy? Solved! (Keeps the donor base happy) See, it’s a win-win!
Please don’t ever fall into the trap of thinking that any of these people – Trump, DeVos, etc. are incompetent. We believed that about Dubya and got the Iraq War, the Patriot Act, endless war, indefinite detention without charges and warrantless spying. It can get a whole lot worse if we don’t keep our eyes on the ball.

……….
Migrants in Detention Are Suffering Widespread Abuse and Neglect..Vice
Donald Trump’s move to end family separations won’t solve the deeper problems plaguing the facilities housing adults and children.
…More recently, the civil liberties observation organization Human Rights First released a review of conditions in Texas titled Ailing Justice: Texas, compiled after researchers toured eight immigrant detention facilities in the state, seven of which were run by private companies. Even as the Trump administration ramps up its war on immigration, with a renewed focus on criminalizing all border crossings, these problems may be getting worse.
“We’re seeing a lot of unfortunate changes in the detention centers,” Eleni Bakst, the lead author of the report, told me. “The inhumane conditions for adults are a result of an administrative use of detention as punitive, deterrent measure.”…
Children are placed in facilities as far away as New York and can suffer treatment that sounds horrific and abusive. Recent reports describe children being forcibly injected with antipsychotic drugs and becoming suicidal from the trauma of separation. There are at least three “tender age” shelters where babies and very young children are held.
What Human Rights First found out about conditions in the eight Texas DHS facilities it reviewed was similarly disturbing: inhumane treatment, long waits for medical attention, “unnecessary, lengthy, and prolonged detention—sometimes for well over one year.”…
The trauma for parents separated from their children is compounded by the conditions they face in the detention centers, where detainees are subject to dire treatment. One thing that stuck out for Bakst in the facilities she visited was the lack of proper laundry or new clothing. Some detainees reported that they were not provided new undergarments upon arrival and that when clothes were taken to be washed they were both improperly cleaned and not returned to the right people.
“In Laredo, every single woman said this caused vaginal infections and UTI,” Bakst said, adding that she heard at other facilities about this practice leading to a number of rashes, infections, and communicable diseases….
Trump’s executive order may have been intended to address some of the objections many had to one of his most unpopular policies, but it’s hardly a panacea—on Wednesday, HHS said it was not planning on immediately reuniting families…

Another factor to be aware of here is the standard “Follow The Money” test. The prison industrial complex, aka private prisons are already making huge bank detaining those seeking entry or asylum, and with the indefinite detention of whole families, their profits will only become larger. The private prison industry also, to no ones surprise, makes large campaign contributions to those politicians who assist their industry in maintaining it’s infiltration of a basic government responsibility, law enforcement. I call those kickbacks, not contributions, legal though they might be.

ONE: jscheidell wrote, “I strongly object to my tax dollars paying for illegals rather than building the wall which would prevent family separation and having them enter this country” — you must not know that building that wall is impossible because of the terrain it would have to be built through.
“The wall comes with many costs, some obvious though hard to estimate, some unforeseen. The most obvious is the large financial outlay required to build it, in whatever form it eventually takes. Although during the election campaign candidate Trump claimed that the wall would cost only $12 billion, a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) internal report in February put the cost at $21.6 billion, but that may be a major underestimate.”
https://www.brookings.edu/essay/the-wall-the-real-costs-of-a-barrier-between-the-united-states-and-mexico/
Let’s compare the cost of building that wall to the $133.99 up to $200 a day it costs per adult to house illegal immigrants in ICE facilities.
“The DHS projects there will be an average of 51,379 people held in immigration detention centers each day in fiscal 2018, a sizable jump from the last few years, which have hovered near the low 30,000s.”
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/20/cost-us-immigrant-detention-trump-zero-tolerance-tents-cages.html
jscheidell, how long will it take to reach $21.6 billion if we don’t build Trump’s fantasy dream wall and keep locking up undocumented immigrants seeking asylum in the US?
Let’s see if I can come up with an answer.
$200 a day x 51,379 = 1,027,588 x 365 (one year) = almost $375 million annually.
I estimate that it would take more than 60 years to match that $21.6 billion dollars it would take to build Trump’s impossible, fantasy dream wall and with no guarantee, the wall would keep them out since the US has a border much longer than the one between the US and Mexico. The U.S. has 12,383 miles of coastline but the official shoreline is estimated at 95,471 miles. Then there is the border with Canada that is 1.538 miles long.
“”What Geology Has to Say about Building a 1,000-Mile Border Wall”
For instance, “The problem is, getting to bedrock can be a doozy. Great swaths of the border feature a hefty layer of loose sediments—dirt, soils, sand—laying atop the bedrock. In some regions the bedrock is hundreds if not thousands of feet down. “Some places the bedrock will be too deep—you’ll never be able to reach the bedrock in an affordable fashion,” says McKinnon.”

“Was the ‘Law to Separate Families’ Passed in 1997 or ‘by Democrats’?
There is no federal law mandating children and parents be separated at the border; a policy resulting in that outcome was enacted in May 2018.”

“The president and top administration officials say U.S. laws or court rulings are forcing them to separate families that are caught trying to cross the southern border. These claims are false. This “zero-tolerance policy” applies to all adults, regardless of whether they cross alone or with their children.”

I Googled and found this. In Canada mothers were normally allowed to stay with their children and fathers were allowed to visit for about an hour a day. Look at the numbers involved: in Canada in 2017, 151 immigrant kids were held with their parents. Eleven were in separate centers. We have over 2,000 with plans for thousands more. The Defense Department is looking for places to hold huge numbers of immigrants. Private prisons are drooling over the government money they’ll be collecting. Who wouldn’t want to stay in an abandoned Walmart? Why not withhold medical services since these are only desperate, starving brown people? Why be concerned about the dismal conditions in which these people are being housed?
Trump’s ideal plan is to put all immigrants in prisons and deport them as quickly as possible. He does not want more immigration judges to expedite this situation. His ideal plan is to get rid of all of these ‘animals’ who are ‘criminals.’
Jordan has an immigration camp that is currently housing 86,000 Muslim immigrants. They have been staying there for years because their home lands are not safe. We don’t allow Muslims into this country and put immigrants in prison. Great country.
…………………..
The U.S. has been under international scrutiny for family separations, but neighboring Canada says it does it too…Newsweek
The United States has been the subject of intense international scrutiny for its immigration practice that has resulted in immigrant families being separated at the border. But it appears that neighboring Canada has done the same, but on a much smaller scale.
In 2017, 151 immigrant children were held with their parents in Canadian detention centers. Eleven more kids were held in separate centers away from their parents or guardians, according to the Canada Border Sevices Agency.
The agency could not say why a minor would be unaccompanied by the adult they entered the country with, CBC News reported. But the action of detaining children is seen as a “last resort” and the border agency is ordered to take into consideration other possible solutions that would be in the “best interests of the child,” according to Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
In one report by McGill University, which talked to 20 families who were detained in immigration centers in Toronto and Laval about their experiences, it was found that half of the time children were separated from their parents at some point in the process of seeking asylum.
Mothers were normally allowed to stay with their children, the study said, while fathers were kept separate and were only allowed to visit their families for about an hour a day.

Lloyd,
Thanks for the math on building the wall – and all the environmental issues that have to be conquered to complete it.
And thank you for a repeat of you diagnosis of Trump and clarifying the difference of socio and psycho paths =-
But I don’t care what the cost is to build the wall – the Chinese conquered building over terrain worse than ours for thousand of miles – it ultimately will be cheaper than the separation of families, cheaper than having not to be able to eat supper at a restaurant, cheaper than listening to Dems call us Nazis and claiming we’re creating concentration camps, cheaper than getting spit on by Dems out of control and preventing one going to the movies – and watching the story of Mr. Rogers – the guy who told us about not bullying etc. <hope the men yelling inches from face to face didn’t have bad breath!
It will be cheaper than having another angry Dem eventually pulling the trigger – and it definitely will be cheaper than placing the kids in danger if they don’t continue to come.
But there’s nothing new under Trump, except an attempt to fix it by holding people accountable to the law. The only way circumstances like this can happen is if people are allowed to violate immigration law and not be punished.
For budget battle of 1995 – a montage of many Democrats, same Democrats, over this past weekend: sound like the same people today with the same issue:

REP. THOMAS BARRETT: Why do the Republicans want to take apples and milk away from six-year-olds?
REP. LYNN WOOLSEY: Starving children is not the solution …
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: It’s cruel to kids!
SEN. DICK DURBIN: Stop declaring war on our kids!
REP. LITTLE DICK GEPHARDT: The Republicans are taking food out of the mouths of millions of needy children.
REP. LUIS GUTIERREZ: We’re gonna let the kids go hungry again.
SEN. TED KENNEDY: War on their children! War on their children!
RUSH: Starving children? Republicans were starving children? These were phantom budget cuts, but just the fact they said it! Now, listen. This weekend and today we have a montage of some of the same Democrats talking about the separation of families issue.
REP. JOHN LEWIS: (outdoor noise) …sick and tired of (slams podium) what had happened to (slams podium) our children, (slams podium) to our babies, taken from their mothers (slams podium) from their fathers, separated. (slams podium) That’s not right! (slams podium) That’s not fair!

REP. JERRY NADLER: Babies being separated from their mothers. This administration is behaving like a bunch of thugs and gangsters.
SEN. CHRIS VAN HOLLEN
A cynical, evil policy to try to hold these kids hostage.
REP. LUIS GUTIERREZ: Children are being ripped from parents’ arms. I can’t think of anything more chilling, any more evil.
REP. JOE KENNEDY:

Lloyd I wonder why as some note – the sources and people used are not worth anything, yet one could same the same about the sources they use…I listen to CNN, MSNBC and I get called a Nazi etc – not helpful but it says a lot about the people they listen to and hold up for all to follow – histrionics plus….
Now, Bill Maher two Fridays ago comes out and says he hopes that we have a recession ’cause that’s the only way we’re gonna get rid of Trump – Bill Maher wants us to suffer. He wants this economy to go into a recession as a means of hurting and then getting rid of Trump. And not a word from the lame stream media –
Another example – Here is a piece – PBS – and Seymour Hersh who might be considered the dean of journalistas was on NPR two Saturdays ago.
In the interview he said to the media you better harp on what’s happening to kids at the border vis-a-vis Mexico, because that’s the only avenue left to getting Donald Trump. Now, that’s two Saturdays ago. “Nothing else is sticking to Trump. We haven’t found anything. Focus on the kids and what happens to ’em at the border….so this isn’t really about the kids – it is about bringing Trump down.
To continue: “Democratic Lawmaker: Obama Admin Kept Child Migrant Crisis ‘Very Quiet’ — Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) claimed in an interview Saturday that the Obama administration tried to cover up the number of unaccompanied minors crossing the United States’ southern border.” According to data from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency, nearly 70,000 unaccompanied minors crossed the southern border in fiscal year (FY) 2014 — the period between October 1, 2013, to September 30, 2014. …
“Cuellar suggested that some adults who are not legal guardians of the children they carry over the border take advantage of the separation policy. ‘Keep in mind that under the law, you can separate a child if that person, the adult, is not the real parent or the custodian because sometimes we see situations where they’ll bring a child because they know of the policy that we have over here with children,’ Cuellar said.”
Democrats don’t care any more about ’em today than they did during the Obama administration.
This from the WAPO prior to Trump – January 28, 2016, Washington Post. This is over two years ago. “Obama Administration placed Children with Human Traffickers, Report Says.” This story is literally devastating. Here’s the opening paragraph. “The Obama administration…”
“The Obama administration failed to protect thousands of Central American children who have flooded across the U.S. border since 2011, leaving them vulnerable to traffickers and to abuses at the hands of government-approved caretakers, a Senate investigation has found. … Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) initiated the six-month investigation after several Guatemalan teens were found in a dilapidated trailer park near Marion, Ohio, where they were being held captive by traffickers and forced to work at a local egg farm.
“The boys were among more than 125,000 unaccompanied minors who have surged into the United States since 2011, fleeing violence and unrest in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. ‘It is intolerable that human trafficking — modern-day slavery — could occur in our own backyard,’ Portman said…” Where were the howls of concern, I ask you, ladies and gentlemen? The Senate investigated it; found the Obama administration tried to hide it and pretend it wasn’t happening, didn’t want anybody to find out.

I didn’t read your entire biased rant. I stopped when I reached your flawed logic regarding the Chinese did it so the US can do it too.
Ah, it took the Chinese centuries to finish the Great Wall and then it failed horribly twice and both of those times China was conquored and ruled by first the Mongols under Kublai Khan for about 80 years or so and then the last dynasty was ruled by the Manchu minority for more than 200 years.
Also, the Chinese built that wall to keep violent nomads who raided into China pillaging villages, murdering people and carrying away slaves. The Mongols, for instance, conquered most of Asia all the way to Europe slaughtering hundreds of thousands and/or millions of people along the way. They were not immigrants. They had no intention of staying and working to earn money. They were bloodthirsty warriors from a warrior culture.
Most if not all if the undocumented immigrants to the US do not raid our town, murder people and carry away slaves. They get jobs that most Americans refuse to do and work hard for low pay and then send money home to help family members that remained behind. And most of them are devout Christians and/or Catholics.
There is absolutely no comparison between the Great Wall of China and the wall Trump wants to build.
The first Great Wall of China was constructed of rammed earth mixed with rice or wheat to help bind it together. Millions of Chinese peasants were forced to build it and hundreds of thousands died doing it. When they died, their bodies were tossed inside the wall as it was being built.
The Great Wall of China we are familiar with today was rebuilt by the Ming Dynasty more than 1,500 years later and that dynasty wanted to do what Trump and his ignorant followers are trying to do to the United States.
I know how that did NOT work out but you probably don’t know that. China was once the most technologically advanced country on the planet for about 1,500 years. No other country on earth had the weapons’ technology, wealth or power, to even dare to attack China. During the Ming Dynasty, China started to fall behind and during the last Dynasty, Europe surpassed China in weaponry and that was when France and England invaded China starting with the two Opium Wars and defeating them leading to more than a century of horror for almost everyone that lived in China. Tens of millions were killed in the long list of wars starting with the Opium Wars and eventually, Imperial China collapsed.
That Great Wall did nothing to protect China from what the western colonial powers did to China.

I agree separation is not the answer, your statement is a prime example as others have added before – over blown to tear the hankies out of pockets and weep –
“The babies in cages may never see their parents again. We are an international pariah. We are led by a cruel sociopath.”
Why is it that the bleeding heart Dems throw out the race card – Trump is against brown people and if this doesn’t work they go to child abuser, or as Joe and his wife from MSNBC yak on about the process connected to the likes of concentration camps and use the ultimate Nazi canard? The children are being used to promote an agenda.
This has little to do with the kids – and the Chucky Schumers and Pelosi proved it moments after the Exec Order was penned. Trump knows that the EO can’t superseded the Flores law of 1996 under Clinton.
It is Congress’ problems to solve. Since we don’t have the 60 votes the Dems need to assist –
but a little historical perspective –
“Obama Kept Them in Cages, Wrapped Them in Foil.
This was widely known to be happening. But of course with Obama, never was it reported. CNN interview..CABRERA: I don’t think people understand what’s actually happening down there. You have a lot of these kids come down here that are put through terrible, the terrible situations by their parents. And all this can be avoided if they just go through the port of entry. If you guys have seen some of the stuff that we’ve seen down here, you would understand just how important it is to have a tough stance to divert people from coming here. When you see a 12-year-old girl with a Plan B pill or their parents put her on birth control because they know that getting violated is part of the journey —
BALDWIN: Ugh!
CABRERA: — that’s just a terrible way to live. When you see a four-year-old girl traveling completely alone with just her parents’ phone number written across her shirt? I mean, come on, now. A 12-year-old girl with a Plan B pill! Her parents put her on birth control ’cause they know that getting violated is part of the journey, and they sent the girl anyway!

a little history for you. This Ninth Circuit decision, the Flores ruling that governs the separation of families and how long kids can be detained (maximum 20 days). That decision was forced by… It was a lawsuit from a liberal amnesty group, a bunch of activists, and they are now the ones who are forcing the separation of children! All of this happened with liberal activists demanding this kind of thing. It was all part of a giant scheme to create sympathy and angst so that we could just stop all of this at the border.
“Just let these people in,” which remains the objective of all of this. “Just stop the processing and stop the examinations! Just let ’em in.” That’s the Democrat Party policy. Now, the same leftist amnesty activists who brought us the Flores ruling from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, they’re not gonna let Trump detain whole families for longer than 20 days. so now the decision is, “Well, let’s send some additional judges down there, some administrative judges to process these cases faster.” There are any number of things suggestions here.
Making Trump cave on immigration separating… This not about separating illegal alien children from their parents. This is about separating Trump supporters from Trump.
TheHill.com has a story: Chuck “Schumer Rejects [Republican] Proposal to Address Border Crisis,” and I only wanted to use this to back up a point that I’ve been making all day that the Democrats really don’t want this solved.
They don’t want the law changed. They like the law as it is not being enforced. But they don’t want to change the law. The Democrats do not want the issue solved. They do not want a resolution. “Schumer Rejects GOP Proposal to Address Border Crisis — Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) on Tuesday dismissed a legislative proposal backed by Republican leaders to keep immigrant families together at the border, arguing that President Trump could fix the problem more easily with a flick of his pen.’”
The next story from The Federalist: “Democrats’ Border Separation Bill Would Let Nearly All Parents Who Commit Federal Crimes Get off Scot-Free.” That’s what they want to be the solution of this problem. They want these kids and whoever the adults are they’re with, family or whatever, just to be let into the country.

Trump voters have become a resilient force for the midterms. They leap to his defense, they say, because criticism has gotten out of control.

In interviews across the country over the last few days, dozens of Trump voters, as well as pollsters and strategists, described something like a bonding experience with the president that happens each time Republicans have to answer a now-familiar question: “How can you possibly still support this man?” Their resilience suggests a level of unity among Republicans that could help mitigate President Trump’s low overall approval ratings and aid his party’s chances of keeping control of the House of Representatives in November…

On the subject of mistreatment of children, or of low-income families of color, check this out from a former Success Academy teacher who quit mid-way through the year:
“- A death in the family is not considered a good reason to be absent from school for a length of time. Children who experience a death in the family are permitted ONE excused day off from school and this is if the OBITUARY is provided to the school. After that, every day absent from school is considered unexcused and add up to a suspension, even if a parent passes away and even if the child needs to travel to attend a funeral.
“- The financial situations of parents and families are not taken into consideration. Many of the neighborhoods that success is in are economically disadvantaged. A look at the New York State report card website states that some schools have economic disadvantage up to 85%. We were told during training, that if a parent says their child is wearing different shoes to school because their school shoes are ruined and they cannot afford new shoes to not empathize, to not offer to help the family, but to say “When will you have the shoes?”
“- Dismissal. Parents and guardians are given a ten minute window to pick up their child. Ten minutes. If they do not arrive on time to pick up their child, the child is punished and the parent is grilled on why they couldn’t make it. I know very few parents that are able to pick their children up at 3:45 every day because they’re working.
“- Again, take these as you want. But these were all observations I made JUST FROM TRAINING. I can’t imagine how it is in an actual classroom and school. If you’re a certified teacher, you’re too good for this place.

Well, honestly, now, think about it. Scholars who have experienced a death in the family might be emotionally distraught. And if a parent is involved, that could go on for quite some time, which would make it difficult for that scholar to concentrate. They have to find a way to get any so-called scholars who can’t suck it up to get out. Otherwise, this could result in that “scholar” (insert eyeroll here) getting a low test score, which would pull down the school’s test scores. Is that really what you want? Where are your priorities???

It’s been nearly two months since the Trump administration announced its new “zero tolerance” policy regarding illegal immigration, which federal officials say has led to about 2,000 undocumented immigrant children in government custody being separated from their parents.
The first tent city that’ll house immigrant children opened in El Paso on Friday. Some families have been separated for months; some parents have been deported without their children.

The US doesn’t care about immigrant children and can’t even take care of its own. Great article describing just how cheap the US is in caring for our neediest. How sickening that some people think Trump is the answer to all their problems. In fact, the House just narrowly passed a farm bill that includes stricter work requirements for food stamps. Can’t afford to give tax breaks to the wealthy and have food for the greedy poor. Most people on welfare assistance are already working. They just don’t make enough to survive.
…………………………
Child poverty, homelessness, violence, obesity, illness: The United States is already an outlier.
This is a country that professes to care about children at their youngest and most fragile. But here, for every 100,000 live births, 28 women die in childbirth or shortly thereafter, compared with 11 in Canada…
But in the United States, the infant death rate is twice as high as in similarly wealthy countries…
This is a country that attempts to support low-income mothers with tax benefits, food stamps, health insurance, and the Women, Infants, and Children program. Still, it spends less of its gross domestic product on family benefits than all other OECD countries, save for Mexico and Turkey, which are far, far less wealthy. It spends less than half as much as Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Sweden. It is also a rarity in largely declining to give parents cash payments to prevent against poverty, as most other high-income countries do. In France, a dual-income household or a single parent earning less than $48,000 a year gets a cash payment of $1,100 for each birth. Lower-income parents also receive three years of monthly payments to help cover their kids’ bills. (There are several other programs for lower-income and all-income parents, too.) The United States, in contrast, does not guarantee impoverished parents welfare. Indeed, the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program now provides benefits to fewer than one in four poor families. In Louisiana, it is just one in 25.
As a result, the United States has a higher child poverty rate than nearly all other OECD countries, two, three, or even four times as high as in nations comparable in terms of per capita income….

Migrants in Detention Are Suffering Widespread Abuse and Neglect
Donald Trump’s move to end family separations won’t solve the deeper problems plaguing the facilities housing adults and children.
…As of Wednesday morning, the Trump administration seemed to be recalculating its cruel, widely criticized policy of separating migrant children from their parents at the border, with the president issuing an executive order that announced the administration would detain children and parents together from now on.
That does not mean that the crisis—which was manufactured by the administration from the beginning—is over, however. For one thing, thanks to a longstanding court ruling the government won’t be able to detain families for longer than 20 days. For another, it doesn’t appear Donald Trump will be doing anything to address the broader problem of inhumane conditions in detention facilities where border crossers are housed.
The Department of Homeland Security’s own inspector general criticized these conditions in a December report that documented the improper housing of detainees in facilities meant for people with criminal records, strip searches that violated standards, abusive behavior by guards, and frequent threats of segregation from the rest of the detainees.
“Staff did not always tell detainees why they were being segregated, nor did they always communicate detainees’ rights in writing or provide appeal forms for those put in punitive lock-down or placed in segregation,” the report found. “In multiple instances, detainees were disciplined, including being segregated or locked down in their cells, without adequate documentation in the detainee’s file to justify the disciplinary action.”..

A San Diego federal judge issued a preliminary injunction Tuesday at the request of the American Civil Liberties Union that calls for all children affected by the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy to be reunited with their parents within 30 days.
In a toughly worded opinion, U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw wrote “the facts set forth before the court portray reactive governance — responses to address a chaotic circumstance of the government’s own making. They belie measured and ordered governance, which is central to the concept of due process enshrined in our Constitution.
“The unfortunate reality is that under the present system migrant children are not accounted for with the same efficiency and accuracy as property. Certainly, that cannot satisfy the requirements of due process,” he added.
Under the order, children younger than 5 years old must be reunited with their parents within 14 days, while older children must be reunited with their parents within 30 days. Within 10 days, federal authorities must allow parents to call their children if they’re not already in contact with them…

“My heart was broken tonight when I was following one of the kids who landed about 8:45pm,” explained Cristina Jiménez, Executive Director of United We Dream, a national immigrant advocacy group. “He seemed disoriented, and he was really scared. jscheidell:” …it was upholding the powers of the Constitution ” The Supreme Court and all justices have a point of view. It is supposed to be neutral but often isn’t. Why was it legal to have slaves? A conservative court…Trump’s vision….will put civil liberties back. Janus was just a start. Next will come women’s rights, gay marriages, gerrymandering [already okay in N. Caroling and Texas] and voter suppression are coming. Are blacks still 3/5s human for purposes of representation in Congress? That was also part of the Constitution.
The Three-Fifths Clause of the United States Constitution (1787) | The Black Past: Remembered and Reclaimed
Often misinterpreted to mean that African Americans as individuals are considered three-fifths of a person or that they are three-fifths of a citizen of the U.S., the three-fifths clause (Article I, Section 2, of the U.S. Constitution of 1787) in fact declared that for purposes of representation in Congress, enslaved blacks in a state would be counted as three-fifths of the number of white inhabitants of that state.
The three-fifths clause was part of a series of compromises enacted by the Constitutional Convention of 1787. The most notable other clauses prohibited slavery in the Northwest Territories and ended U.S. participation in the international slave trade in 1807. These compromises reflected Virginia Constitutional Convention delegate (and future U.S. President) James Madison’s observation that “…the States were divided into different interests not by their…size…but principally from their having or not having slaves.”

The high court has a tradition, known by its Latin name stare decisis, of standing by its previous decisions. But the court has recently shown more of a willingness to break precedent. Just this week the court ruled it unconstitutional for public unions to force nonmembers to pay collective-bargaining fees. In her dissent, Justice Elena Kagan argued that decision undid a 1977 ruling.

Really, under the Nazi’s, Germany had laws that made it illegal to harbor Jews and other targeted minorities. If a Christian white person offered sanctuary and hid them in their homes and they were caught, they were also sent to the death camps and lost everything.
Only time, decades, centuries, will reveal if the GOP and Trump’s Alt-Right dominated Supreme Court was rational, logical and just in its decisions.
And anyone that disagrees, has a right to protest and speak out and advocate reversals of those decisions.
Trump wants to strip Constitutional due process rights from undocumented aliens seeking sanctuary in the U.S.
If Trump gets what he wants, who, what group, will be targeted next — liberals, teachers, children that are citizens of the US?
The following poem didn’t happen without laws being passed first to make it happen.
“First, they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
If you think 5-4 decisions from the Supreme Court justifies that kind of brutal, dystopian autocratic world, then you are no better than Hitler’s Nazis. If Trump gets one or two more nominations, he’ll have 6-3 or 7-2 decisions supporting these draconian measures that are an exact match for what the Nazis did in Germany. Democrats have only themselves to look at for being in this unenviable Pew called it the “Meh Midterm,” and they were proven right: When the votes were counted, weeks later, turnout was 36.3 percent — the lowest it had been in 72 years. “Neither party gave voters an affirmative reason to show up at the polls,” complained the New York Times. Some commentators — like, well, me — argued that there was no such thing as a dull election when both the Senate and the Supreme Court were so closely divided, but such arguments fell on deaf ears.circumstance. McConnell was asked, by Kentucky Today, to name his most important achievement in public life. “The decision I made not to fill the Supreme Court vacancy when Justice Scalia died was the most consequential decision I’ve made in my entire public career,” he said. The calculation made by many conservatives in 2016 was a simple one: if you believe the representative bodies of government are thoroughly dysfunctional, and that we are now effectively governed by the administrative state and the judiciary to the exclusion of all others, the rationale for backing Donald Trump was clear. That’s how much the courts mattered.
It is an irony that a candidate feared by many – left and some on the right, who was thought to run roughshod over the Constitution would end up appointing so many figures to the courts who ensured its enduring strength – conservatives and originalists

the Constitution was an experiment in providing justice for all. It’s goal was to have everyone get ‘a piece of the pie’ and share. There is nothing about this in the Trump agenda. He is after ‘everything for himself’ and cares nothing about the ‘little people’. He degrades everyone who criticizes him and doesn’t have an ounce or respect for our allies. He admires tyrants and dictators who take away the freedoms of their people. He wants to be dictator for life and is working to destroy this country one small bit at a time.
Tell me exactly how this degradation of the US in the eyes of the world is helping. The strength of the Constitution is being eroded by far right conservatives who cannot provide for the common good. Janus is an example. Citizens United was also a goal of conservatives on the court. Both are destroying this country. Next will be Roe vs. Wade and the elimination of the right of gays to marry.
Is this really making everything better? What will come next since Congress is now filled with GOP sycophants? They are drooling at the thought of having enough power to get rid of ACA, Medicare, Medicaid and all funding for Social Security. Privatization of SS would provide more money for Wall street. Who cares if more people are starving on the streets. Put them all in jail and provide more money for the private prisons who are engulfing immigrants with their children.
There is no Constitutional strength in any of this. There is no humanity in any of this. It is a conservative dream.

If anything, I identify as a Teddy Roosevelt progressive. That means I’ll fight with the left-wing liberals. What’s interesting is that about 70 percent of the military’s officers do not like Trump and almost half of the enlisted men think like their officers.
and I’m actually hoping Trump and the GOP keep getting what they want so the Civil War between the extreme lying frauds from the Alt-Right and everyone else in the country arrives before I’m too old to fight. I think the country is moving fast in that direction.
But if I do get too old, all I need is my hands so I can load ammo clips for the front line troops fighting Trump’s fascist-racist army.
The United States does not belong to the GOP or Trump or ALEC or the Koch brothers or jscheidell.
It belongs to all the people. It took eleven years (1763 – 1975) for the colonists to get angry enough to fight and another seven years to defeat the British Empire.
The Founding Fathers and their army had help from France and Spain back then. This time I think, the people who despise Trump will have help from every country in the EU, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and Australia. Putin’s Russia will send troops to fight for Trump.

Headline: I was taken from the only family I’d ever known. I’m still haunted by that trauma..from the Idaho Daily Statesman..Opinion by Michael Satz
Michael Satz is a resident of Boise and an administrator and faculty member at the University of Idaho Boise. He served 10 years as an officer in the U.S. Navy and practiced law in Texas.
Imagine, being 2 and a half years old and sitting in your living room with your parents and siblings. A knock at the door, and then an adult you don’t know grabs you and starts dragging you out of the house. You fight with all your might, pulling against this stranger taking you away from your family. Your siblings even grab an arm and pull with you. You scream out for your mommy, but she just sits there, helplessly watching you lose the fight of your life to stay with her. And then your family is gone. You are all alone in a strange building with no one to console you as you cry uncontrollably.
This happened to me. You see, I was adopted and taken away from the Texas foster home where I had lived since birth…
I share this story because I want people to understand how damaging it is to have a child taken away forcibly from her parents. With no understanding of what is happening, a total feeling of abandonment and aloneness, and absolute sheer terror at being separated from the ones you love. It leaves a lasting, lifelong effect that is very difficult to overcome. And this from a lucky one: I went to a good home and have a fantastic mother who loves me now and loved me then. I got an education, joined the military, became an attorney and am now an educator. With all of that going for me, I still face the trauma of that day regularly.
Imagine, then, what a child with nothing more than the dream of a better life is going through, and will go through during her lifetime. Separating families is wrong. It hurts the adults, but more importantly and urgently, it causes lifelong damage to the children who are taken.
There are better ways to enforce our immigration and asylum laws that do not cause such lifelong traumatic injury to children. We should be demanding that our federal government seek better solutions in our name. A people that intentionally harms children is not who we, as Americans, are or should aspire to be.

To avoid and having to address each hyperbole – a simplification for some clarity:
an observation that works from Helen Raleigh 2018
I’m afraid the five justices who ruled in favor of the administration won’t be able to enjoy a quiet dinner in a public restaurant anymore, given the political reality we are in right now.
Some on the left have already called the court’s ruling an endorsement of discrimination – The HILL -Rep. Richard Neal (D-Mass.) said Tuesday that the Supreme Court “endorsed discrimination” by upholding President Trump’s travel ban.
But people who make such accusations clearly didn’t read either the original executive order or the court’s opinion. The original executive order (EO) sought to apply temporary visa suspension to nationals of certain countries that have weak vetting procedures and thus pose a public safety threat. Other than Syria, the first EO didn’t name any country specifically. Critics of President Trump labeled the original EO as an anti-Muslim measure mainly because seven predominately Muslim countries (Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen) were initially considered as the target for the temporary visa suspension.
But if you read the text of the EO, Trump didn’t single out any of these countries. Instead, the EO shows he merely followed an existing U.S. law established under President Obama, which limited the issuing of visas to these “countries of concern.” In addition, none of these seven counties are in the top 10 most populous Muslim countries in the world. If Trump truly intended to “ban Muslims” from the U.S., he would have applied his temporary visa ban to a very different list of countries.
Since January 2017, the EO was revised twice to make it more legally sound. After a 50-day worldwide review, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) identified eight countries, Chad, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen — that remained deficient in terms of their risk profile and willingness to provide requested information. These countries “were previously designated by Congress or prior administrations as posing national security risks.” The revised EO imposed different restrictions that were based on the “distinct circumstances” in each of the eight countries. For example, the Iranians are still allowed to seek a non-immigrant student visa or an exchange visitor’s visa.
Chad and Sudan that showed improvement in their vetting process and cooperation with the U.S. were removed from the visa restriction list. It seems the majority of the justices accept the government’s claim that the language of the EO and the process it lays out show that the goal is not about preventing Muslims from entering the U.S., but rather about national security.
Chief Justice John Roberts, acknowledged the existences of these statements, while emphasizing that the heart of the issue of this case “is not whether to denounce the President’s statements, but the significance of those statements in reviewing a Presidential directive, neutral on its face, addressing a matter within the core of executive responsibility. In doing so, the Court must consider not only the statements of a particular President, but also the authority of the Presidency itself.”
Roberts went on to say that “the admission and exclusion of foreign nationals is a ‘fundamental sovereign attribute exercised by the Government’s political departments largely immune from judicial control.’ … Congress has also delegated to the President authority to suspend or restrict the entry of aliens in certain circumstances. The principal source of that authority, §1182(f), enables the President to ‘suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens’ whenever he ‘finds’ that their entry ‘would be detrimental to the interests of the United States.”
Justice Thomas concurred by stating that “Section 1182(f) does not set forth any judicially enforceable limits that constrain the President. Nor could it, since the President has inherent authority to exclude aliens from the country.”

How does the country stay safe – do you desire no internal safety. The call might be better stated as reform rather than abolish
Some stats about the job done by ICE – Dickie Durbin described this as “incompetence” another democratic who needs to retire…..
First the exec order defining responsibilities and then the impact: from Homeland Security:
The EO and implementation memorandum expanded ICE’s enforcement focus to include removable aliens who (1) have been convicted of any criminal offense; (2) have been charged with any criminal offense that has not been resolved; (3) have committed acts which constitute a chargeable criminal offense; (4) have engaged in fraud or willful misrepresentation in connection with any official matter before a governmental agency; (5) have abused any program related to receipt of public benefits; (6) are subject to a final order of removal but have not complied with their legal obligation to depart the United States; or (7) in the judgment of an immigration officer, otherwise pose a risk to public safety or national security. The Department has directed that classes or categories of removable aliens are no longer exempted from potential enforcement.
After years of decline, the number of arrests made by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) climbed to a three-year high in fiscal 2017, according to data from the agency. The biggest percentage increases were in Florida, northern Texas and Oklahoma.

ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations made a total of 143,470 arrests in fiscal 2017, a 30% rise from fiscal 2016. The surge began after President Donald Trump took office in late January: From his Jan. 20 inauguration to the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30, ICE made 110,568 arrests, 42% more than in the same time period in 2016.
Trump signed an executive order on Jan. 25 that expanded ICE’s enforcement focus to most immigrants in the U.S. without authorization, regardless of whether they have a criminal record. Under President Barack Obama, by contrast, ICE focused its enforcement efforts more narrowly, such as by prioritizing the arrests of those convicted of serious crimes.
Despite the overall rise in arrests in 2017, ICE made about twice as many arrests in fiscal 2009, the year Obama came into office (297,898). This total generally declined in subsequent years.
ICE reports arrests geographically by “areas of responsibility.” Although they are named for field offices in major cities, these areas can encompass large regions of the U.S., with some covering four or more states. The Miami area of responsibility, which covers all of Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, saw the largest percentage increase in ICE arrests between 2016 and 2017 (76%). Next were the Dallas and St. Paul regions (up 71% and 67%, respectively). Arrests increased by more than 50% in the New Orleans, Atlanta, Boston and Detroit regions as well.
Impact
The FY2017 statistics clearly demonstrate ICE’s continued commitment to identifying, arresting, and removing aliens who are in violation of U.S. law, particularly those posing a public safety or national security threat, while restoring fidelity to the rule of law. In FY2017, ICE ERO conducted 143,470 overall administrative arrests, which is the highest number of administrative arrests over the past three fiscal years. Of these arrests, 92 percent had a criminal conviction, a pending criminal charge, were an ICE fugitive or were processed with a reinstated final order. In FY2017, ICE conducted 226,119 removals. While this is a slight overall decrease from the prior fiscal year, the proportion of removals resulting from ICE arrests increased from 65,332, or 27 percent of total removals in FY2016 to 81,603, or 36 percent of total removals, in FY2017. These results clearly demonstrate profound, positive impact of the EO. The 17 percent decrease in border removals shows the deterrent effect of strong interior enforcement, while the increase in interior removals restores the integrity of our nation’s immigration system and enhances the safety and security of the United States.

The issues – illegals, our laws, and our border – the issue is not homegrown terrorists – MCVEIGH – – change of issue? it is whether we follow the open borders crowd and those that call for more crime and murders and rape etc, by ridding themselves of ICE, from those who do not come here legally and do not follow our laws.
Don’t know where you live but if it is a sanctuary state, county or city hopefully you enjoy the reentry of illegal criminals – Over just three months this year, New York City, which acts as a “sanctuary city” for criminal illegal immigrants, released 440 “dangerous” offenders sought for deportation, and 10 percent went on to commit more crime, according to a new review. They have rights – create more crime
And, said ICE, “nearly 40 individuals who were released from custody, reoffended and were again arrested for crimes by local law enforcement officers.”
No border enforcement, no laws, no wall – physical or technologically created establishes no country.

Seriously, I know jscheidell is talking about the undocumented immigrants, many seeking asylum in the U.S. from all those Catholic, Christian nations south of the United States.
So, let’s look closer at those immigrants to the US.
“Characteristics of the U.S. foreign-born population: 2015
There were a record 43.2 million immigrants living in the U.S. in 2015, making up 13.4% of the nation’s population. This represents a fourfold increase since 1960, when only 9.7 million immigrants lived in the U.S., accounting for just 5.4% of the total U.S. population. Click on the expand buttons below the summary tables to see detailed tables for each.”
http://www.pewhispanic.org/2017/05/03/facts-on-u-s-immigrants-current-data/
61 percent of the immigrants are Christians, 10 percent are Muslim, 7 percent are Hindu (traditional enemies of Muslims — Hindus have been fighting Muslims for centuries), 6 percent are Buddhist and 3 percent are “other” religions.
Christians remain by far the largest religious group among legal U.S. immigrants, though their estimated share has decreased from 68% in 1992 to 61% in 2012. Over the past two decades, the U.S. has admitted an estimated 12.7 million Christian immigrants.
“The second-largest religious category among legal immigrants is the unaffiliated, which includes atheists, agnostics and people who do not identify with any particular religion. In recent years, the share of immigrants who have no religious affiliation has held fairly stable, at about 14%. Since 1992, the U.S. has admitted an estimated 2.8 million religiously unaffiliated immigrants.”

A study out of MIT says asks and answers, “Are Muslims born or
living in the United States increasingly inclined to engage in terrorist attacks
within the country’s borders?”
ANSWER” For much of the post–September 11 era, the answer to that question was largely NO!

“A look at the data on domestic terrorism and who’s behind it.
“A recent government report shows that from Sept. 12, 2001, to Dec. 31, 2016, there were 85 deadly attacks in the United States by violent extremists.
“Most of the attacks were carried out by far-right violent extremists.”
Conclusion: If jscheidell is a Trumpist from the far-right, then jscheidell and people that think like him/her is more of a threat to our safety and our freedom in the U.S. than an Islamic jihadist extremist.

Troll much? Your pre-packaged propaganda is absurd and offensive in light of the utter incompetence, lack of fitness and sociopathy of this president. And how can you respond with such sterile rationalization to the agony of small children and their heartbroken parents? You should be ashamed and shamed.

Carolmalaysia,
Defunding ICE may not be the most intelligent sign – considering Diane is suggesting NYC and its theaters and dinner restaurants on her birthday – you should be thanking them for cleaning up the place from illegal criminals -the sanctuary city is a tad bit safer for the tourists visitors and residents –
just saying….
More than 180 of those arrested in “Operation Keep Safe” were convicted criminals or had criminal charges pending, including violent offenses such as assault and child sex crimes, per ICE. More than 80 arrestees failed to leave the United States after being issued a final order of removal or illegally returning to the country.
Among the arrestees in Brooklyn were a 31-year-old Mexican national with a rape conviction; a 39-year-old Jamaican national who is a registered sex offender convicted of weapons and attempted rape charges; and a 39-year-old registered sex offender from Ghana with a rap sheet that includes sex abuse and forcible touching convictions, according to ICE.
A 58-year-old Trinidadian who was arrested in the Bronx had previously been removed from the country twice and has more than seven nonviolent criminal convictions.
The arrests took place over the course of six days, between April 9 and April 14, in all five boroughs as well as Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Orange, Dutchess and Rockland counties.
The highest number of arrests — 163 — took place in the city, with 46 in the Bronx, 44 in Brooklyn, 40 in Queens, 25 in Manhattan and eight on Staten Island, according to ICE.
“ICE continues to face significant obstacles with policies created by local officials which hinder cooperation between ICE and local law enforcement. Yet, with the tireless efforts of the men and women of ICE, this operation was a great success,” said Thomas R. Decker, field office director for Enforcement and Removal Operations New York.

ICE is a fascist organization. The NYC police do an excellent job of keeping our city safe.

Subject: Sign the petition! All Members of Congress: TAKE ACTION: Stop Trump’s “Tax Scam Round 2” for the rich and powerful
Friend,
I signed a petition on Action Network telling All Members of Congress to TAKE ACTION: Stop Trump’s “Tax Scam Round 2” for the rich and powerful.
Six months ago, Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans passed a tax scam that will cost the American people $1.9 trillion. Now, in an Election Year ploy, they are preparing “Tax Scam Round 2.” But six months after passage of Tax Scam Round 1, here is what we know: 83% of the tax cuts are still going to the richest 1%. Just 4% of workers have gotten a pay hike due to the tax cuts—a one-time bonus or wage hike. The cost of the tax cuts has ballooned from $1.5 trillion to $1.9 trillion, emboldening GOP lawmakers to demand even more cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, education and more. Trump proposed a budget that would cut funding for these critical services by $1.7 trillion to pay for his tax scam. Prescription drug companies, health insurers, Wall Street banks and other major industries are getting huge tax breaks and not sharing the wealth with consumers or their employees. Despite these outrageous results — ripping off the American people — Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans are planning to double down before the November Election. They want to pass a Tax Scam Round 2 that could cost another $1 trillion and would mostly benefit the wealthy at the expense of working families, seniors, people with disabilities and hungry children. Tax Scam Round 2 is just another giveaway to Republican donors, wealthy business owners and real estate developers like Donald Trump who game the system at our expense.
Can you join me and take action? Click here: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/take-action-stop-trumps-tax-scam-round-2-for-the-rich-and-powerful?source=email&

Obama and Bush extensively used ankle bracelets so that families could be together. 90% of these people did show up in court when necessary.
This certainly is a better procedure than locking up parents permanently until they can be deported while putting their children in foster care. Putting whole families in prison until they can all be deported is inhumane. Only Trump could create such a blatant crime and smile. Only the ignorant would call all of these people ‘racists’, ‘criminals’ and ‘drug dealers’. They mostly are people trying to get a better life and are running from governments that are violent or from gangs that threaten to kill. Whatever happened to our caring about the needy? We are supposed to be a true Christian nation, not one that is cruel to those who are struggling to survive.

It’s the Democrats fault once again. Trump has shown, “leadership and compassion”. This was just posted from the WH:
“The closer President Trump’s wall comes to completion, the closer we get to end the humanitarian crisis caused by our porous southern border. The Democrats’ dream of open borders and their unrelenting opposition to securing our border hurts the people they claim to care about the most,” writes Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, in Fox News.
In The Detroit News, former Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer writes that President Trump “has shown leadership and compassion while remaining resolute on enforcing the law at our border. Now that he has acted, Congress must follow his lead, stop the outrage and solve this problem with real action.”

“The immediate cause of rising support for authoritarian, xenophobic populist movements [in Europe] is a reaction against immigration.”
…
A reaction against immigration is a lack of caring for humans who are suffering. Our war efforts to ‘create a democracy in the Middle East’ has failed miserably. It has caused destruction and loss of lives. These people are leaving their homes because years of war have caused this situation to escalate.
It is a sad day when people don’t realize that too many are leaving their homes because of unjust governments. Too often it is the US with its bombs that has caused death and destruction. Immigrants DO NOT want to leave their homes. What are they supposed to do when there is no way to exist in their previous countries?
This problem is not only in Europe but is in the hands of whose who live south of our borders. People everywhere are migrating because of injustices and blatant crime caused by years of governments that care nothing about their people.
The US is turning into a country that cares only about white males or whites in general. We are loosing our capacity to care. You believe in that? Love has no boundaries but hatred is spreading also. You care about Trump and his blatant bigotry and lies to spread fear and hatred. Of course all of those immigrants are ‘rapists’, ‘criminals’, ‘drug dealers’ and probably ‘prostitutes’. How unlikely are they hard working people who do jobs that Americans don’t want to do?
