Those people who think that opting out of state tests is only for affluent white kids in the suburbs should watch this video.
It shows African American students at the Brooklyn Collaborative Middle School leading a protest against state testing and taking their Message to other schools in their neighborhood.
Students in New York City have no participated in the opt out movement because the city’s education leaders have warned them of dire consequences to them as individuals and to their school. They have never been informed that they have a right to refuse the tests.

This video is tremendous. Hallelujah!
New York City Mayor de Blasio thinks opting out is unwise. Since his election, he and his former chancellor have failed to tell parents they have the right to say, “No!”
Their disdain for informed parental involvement has thwarted local discussion of problems with the annual statewide exams and inhibited potential resistance within Black and Brown communities, whose children comprise 67% of the 440,000-strong citywide test population.
Proponents of testing misconstrue this to mean that minorities are in favor of the testing system, while dissent is limited to wealthier white areas of the city whose residents have the luxury to protest. This portrayal is false and divisive.

Knowledge is power. So “keep ’em dumb and to do as we please” is the MOTTO and ACTIONS. And if questioned, say, “It’s for YOUR OWN good. See, we really do care.”
With regards to minorities: their VIEW is so self-serving and fits the image the elite white have about minorities. They have to have this image or their world would fall apart. Thanks, Fred.

That was great. I know Diane posted about Lafer’s “1% Solution”. A few days back NYCPSP asked why I am here obviously it is not the pedagogy that attracts a radical trade unionist. . Facebook is not totally useless when you associate with lefties you find some pretty good posts on their walls. This pretty much describes the assault and why I am here. These kids bringing the resistance to the City combined with the revolt in working class suburbs and teachers strikes in right wing states gives me hope. 2008 should have been a Black Swan moment, it was managed well by a crafty charlatan (who I would vote for again if I had to) the next time, the oligarchy / plutocracy may not be so lucky.
