I posted earlier today that the ACLU was defending a school board member against intimidation tactics by a charter school leader, who threatened to sue her for doing her job and asking questions.
The board member, Claudia Rossi, posted this comment on the blog:
“I am a Latina who won a seat on the Santa Clara County Board of Education despite the over 200k the California Charter School Association spent against my campaign. I will continue to fight for our children using my vote and my voice to protect them from profiteering CMOS. Children are not commodities! This threat to sue me and other tactics only expose the true motives of the privatization jaugernaut. Mi voz y mi voto no se venden! My voice and my vote are not for sale! Nuestros hijos tampoco! Neither are our children!”

Outstanding! I might call Claudia Rossi a thing divine, for nothing natural I ever saw so noble.

I’m not surprised that Claudia Rossi is reading your Blog too.
I don’t know how many visitors your blog gets daily, Diane, but Sunday I went to a MeetUp luncheon and there was a young teacher there (with decades to go before he will be old enough to retire) that reads your Blog. When an investment banker talked about how great Bill Gates was, I joined the young teacher to educate the banker that Gates wasn’t so great and that teachers can’t stand him. It was a lively conversation and the banker was mute for most of it.
Thank you for all that you are doing.
Too bad we didn’t have Blogs back in 1983 when President Ray-Gun released the misleading “A Nation At Risk Report”.

Speaking of California, I am really having trouble controlling my anger. In two weeks high school seniors will be subjected to hours of testing to “field test” and “pilot” the new CAASPP math and science assessments. These tests of 12th graders have absolutely no legitimate educational purpose. The entire class of 2018 is being conscripted to provide free data so SBAC can improve their tests. I thought it was unethical to experiment on humans without their informed consent. My kid will definitely be opting out if this useless, immoral and unethical test.

I wish we had more board members like Claudia Rossi. Fight fight fight for our kids. The money the charter supporters are pouring into school board races, and the race for governor (Villaraigosa), show me that California is considered a make or break state for them.
