It’s a drizzly, dreary day here in NE Ohio, a perfect day for reading and music. This piece fits nicely into my day. Thanks for reminding me! I’ve also been rereading some of your posts, my favorites, on the creative process, as I’ve been listening today. One of my guilty pleasures is binge-watching OK Go videos because, whether you like their music or not, the visual artistry and acrobatics (not sure if that’s the right word) are addicting—as their videos about how they make each video.
I hope you’ll give some time watch their TED talk about the creative process because it echoes and provides concrete examples of what most of us who are here understand about the creative process. It resides in individuals and often in collaboration. It’s built on a diverse platform of education and experience.
And their only foray in politics is an adaptation of a song that fits nicely with many of our comments.
The most haunting choral composition ever. Was introduced to it over 50 years ago during a required choral music class at the U. of Michigan. Even though I was studying to be a band instructor, this requiem became part of me. When the movie “Amadeus” came out, I showed it to my students(fast forwarded a couple of scenes, of course). I cried every time I watched that movie especially when segments of the requiem was played. Every note of the piece seems to speak to Mozart’s exquisitely painful life. It is a reminder of the sacrifice many creative people make as they attempt to follow their dreams and provide the rest of us with the beauty of their artistic creations.
Thank you.

Yes… as did I. Conducted “Lacrimosa” for my final in Choral Conducting. Presented the “Requiem” scene in Introduction to Music courses.
