George Will is a conservative. As such, he can barely tolerate Trump, who makes a mockery of conservatism.
You might enjoy what he has to say about the race in Alabama that pits bombastic Roy Moore against Doug Jones, prosecutor of the Birmingham bombers, son of a steelworker.

Yes, Moore is a disgrace.

Lest we forget, George Will helped coach Ronald Reagan for his first debate with Jimmy Carter, knowing full well that Carter’s debate briefing/preparation book, which Will used to prep Reagan, had been stolen by the Reagan campaign.
That would also be the same Reagan campaign that conspired with the Iranian government to hold off on releasing the US embassy hostages until the literal moment Reagan was sworn in as President. I guess who’s a member, and when, of the “Axis of Evil” is a malleable concept for Republicans, and that the Democrats have a short and selective memory when it comers to foreign interference in our presidential campaigns.
Will’s politics may be “conservative,” whatever that means these days, but he is a dishonest political operative and propagandist, not a journalist. He should be shunned, not quoted.

Michael Fiorillo, you nailed it. Will & Reagan are the precursors to Roy Moore & Trump. These 2 didn’t rise to power in a vacuum. They are representative of the Republican Party.
A close friend in AL sent me this e-mail where he argues convincingly that Roy Moore & George Will come from the same family tree, so to speak.
“Roy Moore is deplorable, though not simply for the charges recently made that he had a sexual relationship with an underage girl when he was a thirty something. Roy Moore is deplorable because he is a Republican. Despite Moore’s history of defying Federal law, he won the Republican nomination for senator. Despite his divisive behaviors of separating the population among us and them, of injecting his hateful religious faith into politics, he had the endorsement of the Republican Senate. This is the problem of our nation, that the Republican Party will do anything to control our nation.
Did you hear that the Republicans in the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to approve a 36 year old Republican operative for a Federal Judgeship in Alabama, a lifetime appointment, despite the fact he has never participated in trials and the ABA’s complete disapproval of his nomination? This is just the latest and most egregious example of the Republican effort to pack the Federal Judiciary. Those suburban Republican women who voted for tRump because they disliked Clinton were just voting for the continued Republican push for control of our nation, not against Clinton. Republicans are not honest players. Where are the calls for Kusher (sic) and the Donnie (sic) to go to jail for their collusion with Russian operatives during the election? Where is the concern for the millions who would be denied access to medical care insurance if the Republicans could finally manage to repeal the Affordable Care Act? Where is the concern for the many Americans who need help if the Republicans manage to give a huge tax cut to the wealthier of our nation at the expense of social programs like SSI?
I have to admit that there are more than a few precedents for Moore in southern politics. Ben “Pitchfork” Tillman, James K Vardaman, Biblo, and Tom Watson are his “intellectual” predecessors as well as his “cultural” predecessors. No one should forget George Wallace in his heyday.
I won’t try to predict when the American people will awake to the malevolent machinations of the Republicans to run/ruin our nation. It is still amazing that so many people in the south, where so many white voters receive the benefits of Federal programs without contributing to their funding, voted for tRump and are likely to vote for Moore and others of his ilk. The outcry of the Republicans about Moore’s alleged statutory rape is just so much crocodile tears with the if, then qualifications. Where are the voices of McCarthy (sic) and Ryan?”

As much as Will deserves to be shunned for his intellectual and overall dishonesty, perhaps we can take some comfort in the fact that his opposition to Moore reflects the split within the Republican Party, which is something to be encouraged.

Michael,
Agreed.
I find it heartening that there are Republicans willing to admit that Trump is a fraud and a menace and a proto-fascist.

How perfect another reasonable conservative. So as Tom Friedman said about Trade Agreements. “I don’t have to know whats in them if it says Free Trade I love it. ”
I don’t give a $hit what a conservative says, if he calls himself a conservative I loath him .. It is policy that counts . It is a Tax reform proposal designed to create an oligarchy “to last a 1000 years “or at least decades. Court appointments designed to do the same. Every piece of legislation and every appointment approved by the “Reasonable Conservatives” an assault on the American people in service to those Oligarchs or Plutocrats seeking to make oligarchs out of their heirs . The Moore’s and Trumps just the ugly face of what has been there since Goldwater. Goldwater who could not vote for the Civil or Voting rights bills. The ugly face of the American right that saw no problem with fascism in the 30s. One that even contemplated a coup against Roosevelt. The ugly face of the right that never since Nixon saw a problem with TREASON . Yes costing the lives of thousands of American boys by scuttling the peace talks was TREASON.. As was telling Iran to hold onto the Hostages for a better deal by Reagan .
Moore is not the problem, he is the manifestation of a philosophy of hate and greed. There never has been anything moral about this ‘minority’ movement for over 50 years . The fact that they object to a rapist an easy out while they rape the American people and plunder the planet with policy.

Brett Talley has never tried a case, but Trump wants to make him judge for life
By Kristine Phillips | The Washington Post
·
…Brett Talley, a 36-year-old lawyer whom President Donald Trump nominated for a lifetime federal judgeship, has practiced law for only three years and has yet to try a case.
Talley had written political commentaries for CNN, including a 2016 article in which he said Clinton “has committed acts that would have resulted in the prosecution of ordinary citizens.” In the blog post in which he called on his readers to join the NRA, he criticized gun-control advocates, who, he said, “have exploited” the Newtown mass shooting to advance an agenda to strip people of their Second Amendment rights.
“These politicians either do not know or do not care that an armed, responsible citizenry is the last and greatest bulwark against tyranny that a nation can have,” Talley wrote in his blog, Government in Exile. “They certainly do not care about our right to bear arms, enshrined in the Constitution and reaffirmed by recent Supreme Court rulings.”…
