Betsy DeVos appeared at the White House Halloween Party as the beloved fictional science teacher Ms. Frizzle, and the rest of the Cabinet came as themselves, which was frightening enough.
Twitter users were not happy to see her pretending to be a science teacher.
It is ironic that DeVos imagines herself as a beloved science teacher, since she is the most radioactive member of the Cabinet, and she is part of an administration that rejects the science of climate change. Her family foundations have donated to anti-science, creationist organizations.
My grandkids watched the Ms. Frizzle videos, and she is a teacher (in a public school) who exposes children to the wonders of science.
A good choice by DeVos, but not a good fit.

And I suppose Ms. Frizzle is a climate change denier, right? Perhaps she should have dressed up like Scott Pruitt. That would have been really scary!

Maybe she should have dressed as a Puritan with a Scarlet Letter around her neck. The choices for that “letter” could be are endless.
“V” for Queen of Vouchers
“P” for Private School Champion
“B” Billionaire without a clue
“I” Incompetent
“U” Unqualified
Please feel free to chime in and add to the list.

Scott Pruitt was dressed as Scott Pruitt. Terrifying!

Good one, Diane. Yes, TERRIFYING, indeed.

Yes, Ms. Frizzle is a climate change denier, as well as the wife and heiress to a pyramid scheme fortune, and the sibling of the leader of a private mercenary army.
The US Department of Education will soon be distributing science curricula to reflect the above…

DeVos says she was “undercoached” for her confirmation hearings. What an odd way to avoid accountability – to blame it on some nameless “coach”. Why didn’t she prepare? My God she could watch other confirmation hearings online if she needed a crash course in “public education”, which she obviously did.
I get that teachers are supposed to be “accountable” but I was never told they were responsible for hauling students over the finish line. What was her job in all this? She’s just a passive receptacle of coaching?

From the US Department of Education website:
DYK? Between fall 2000–2014, total enrollment in public schools increased by 7%, reaching 50.3M students.
They don’t let that bother them, though – they can ignore 50.3 million public school students just as easily as they currently ignore 50 million public school students!
How nuts is it that we have this whole federal agency seemingly devoted to pretending these families don’t exist and if they DO exist it’s only because they’re “trapped” in public schools.
The US Department of Private Education- working for 3% of families, nationwide.

Kind of fizzled, eh? She probably thinks the design of her dress is an accurate depiction of her Lord’s universe.

DeVos rejects systems; she only supports individuals. Yet, she’s wearing a dress of the solar system. She represents government, a system. She supports a religion, another system. Even Amway is a system, a pyramid scheme! Let’s face it. She’s a litany of prompts and sound bytes, without much substance.

Does that qualify her as a windbag, blows lots of hot air and accomplishes nothing.

Twitter is the closest public education advocates will get to the hallowed halls of DeVos’ ed department.
Public schools aren’t welcome there. Which wouldn’t be a problem, except for the fact that’s where 90% of the families they’re supposedly serving are.
I don’t know how they “reinvent” public schools without any input from public schools or public school families. Certainly more efficient, but I’m not sure they can exclude 90% of schools and claim a mandate.

Ms. Frizzle’s class has eight students (of diverse backgrounds) and everything is hands-on learning. I’m sure that’s what DeVos is proposing for America’s schools, right?
I’ll check back for replies when I’m done laughing. Give me a while.

Betsy DeVos has NOT A CLUE what it is to be a science teacher! How insulting to all the hard working science teachers in public schools in America! Said by a now retired high school science teacher of 37 years!

Thanks for you working with the students for those years!!

Science education is in trouble –and not just because Betsy rules. In our area, the Next Generation Science Standards have been interpreted to mean that teachers shouldn’t really teach. Kids are supposed to “explore, investigate, speculate” on their own. The result? The local high school is reporting that the kids who have had several years of this kind of teaching in middle school are far less prepared than their predecessors. “They don’t know anything”.
