The brilliant author Jane Mayer reviews the life and views of Vice President Pence here.
Mayer is the author of “Dark Money” and other exposes of the billionaires and zealots who imperil our democracy.
In this article, she interviews Pence’s mother and brother and visits his hometown to learn more about him.
He abandoned his Roman Catholic faith and became an evangelical Christian. His views on social issues are out of the mainstream.
President Trump “joked” the other day that Pence would like to “hang all the gays.”
Tolerance is not a term one associates with Mike Pence.

Excellent. Pence, though he differs from the moron in the WH, would be every bit as bad as president. As governor of Indiana he established a record of profound disdain for public schools, for women’s rights of conscience, and for religious liberty and our constitutional heritage of church-state separation.

Guess Pence thinks his god gave him this right. Pence’s god sure ain’t mine.

As awful as Donald Trump is, his incompetence, and his tendency to antagonize people who are his putative allies, may prevent him from damaging the country. Pence, on the other hand, is a dangerous theocrat who may have the savoir faire (so to speak) to build the kinds of coalitions with his ideological allies in Congress that could move the nation in a very scary direction.

Choose between Mussolini or Francisco Franco. Trump and Pence are monsters of right wing nuttery/libertarianism and Ayn Rand toxic waste sludge.

Pence tells lieslies. He is an ultra right wing ideologue.
He claimed to have founded a think tank. The think tank was a money laundering operation and resume-builder for the person who ran it–Pence–who got most of the money available. See this report

Pence like DeVos believes he is on a mission from God. There is no compromising with fanatics. There is no middle ground on which to build consensus. He would use the office as a pulpit to set the clocks back a hundred years.

What a choice!
On the one hand, I cannot help appreciating Trump in contrast to Pence: he is a will o’the wisp, w/ [faux] fiscally conservative instincts married to liberal social instincts– & above all an opportunist [as opposed to an ideologue], which causes him to pause mid-argument & adopt the opposite viewpoint for at least as long as it takes to activate the other side & bring them to the table, however fleetingly. In our present witheringly conservative govtl moment, this lets a little light & flexibility into the debates. Most hopefully, he’s a currier of favor– he wants to be liked & seen as a success– which causes him to keep an ear to the ground on the feedback of the 50% which didn’t vote for him, throwing them the occasional bone.
If these were the only considerations, I’d back keeping Trump around for another 3 yrs, as opposed to impeaching/ forcing him to resign in favor of sleaze-bag-ideologue Pence, who cares not a damn for electorate will, cares only for power as evidenced by bending rigid ideology when it pleases Koch Bros, & answers only to the big$ backers of ideological & commercial right-wingnuts.
But. There is that dangerous, unrestrainably impetuous side of Trump, which– given our Constitution’s unfortunate wide latitude to presidential power– makes him a serious liability to international peace. He has shown himself to be entirely capable of starting wars based on spite or hubris, & there is nothing in our laws to stop him. That reason alone, IMHO, is enough to support impeaching him & putting up with the execrable Pence, whose obsessions, though beyond the pale, seem to be constrained to national social & economic issues.
