Emboldened by the victory of extremist Bible-thumper Roy Moore in Alabama, followers of Bannon and Breitbart are preparing to challenge Republicans they don’t like in the 2018 elections. They want to find Roy Moore types in other states to knock off Senators who have supported Mitch McConnell or Paul Ryan. Steve Bannon is now on the loose as the titular leader of this rebellion. He and Breitbard are funded by multibillionaire Robert Mercer and his daughter Rebekah. Bannon spoke to Moore supporters on election night:
“You are going to see, in state after state after state, people that follow the model of Judge Moore, that do not have to raise money from the elites, the crony capitalists, from the fat cats in Washington, D.C., New York City and Silicon Valley,” Bannon told Moore’s supporters on Tuesday.
What is the “model” of Judge Moore? Racist, homophobic, literal interpretation of the Bible, nationalist, xenophobic, gun-toting.
Who are the “crony capitalists” that Bannon abhors? Well, he might start with his own sponsor, Robert Mercer, who is a capitalist who lives in a mansion on the Gold Coast of Long Island. And where are Breitbart headquarters? D.C.
It is all so crazy.
Bannon said previously that he is a Leninist; that he wants to destroy the administrative state. He is all for getting rid of government health care and letting poor people die. This is not populism. It is anti-populism.

He is just picking the scab off of what has been the Republican Party since Goldwater.
It is refreshing to see the honesty. No more dog whistles to the base cloaked in BS by the likes of Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan . They have stunk for over 50 years. My only problem is while they turned into the lunatic fringe . The Democrats turned into neo-liberal
Republicans.

No need to remind me of the Dixiecrats who quickly found a new home in the Republican party, after LBJ freed the slaves.

Well said, Joel. The Demoplicans and Republicrats might as well just come clean (well, as clean as they are going to get) and adopt a single name. Repugnicans would do. It’s been one party–that of the New Feudal Order–for a very, very long time now.

They might as well let it all hang out. We knew what these @holes were about long ago.
The Dems should take a lesson from this. Although sadly, I don’t think they well. 😩

Roy Moore is just another facet of DeVos. Piece in paper today about Christian Nationalism probably on target. Neither of them are benign, and wouldn’t mistake Bannon’s push as anything other than this move towards what feels like an assassination of American religious freedom.

Russia and China will be more than happy to fill in as super powers after America is done commiting suicide. The short term thinking and attention span of the public at large combined with the unreliability of the ad revenue driven corporate media all but guarantees this. Politicians don’t have a long game, so that leaves us with the oligarchs who do. Moore is just a small part of the tool set that is keeping the nation divided, and I really didn’t believe that Dump didn’t want him to win.

The GOP had already gone off the rails into far right wing Tea Party [libertarian]/Ayn Randite crazy world. Now with Roy Moore they’ve entered a black hole of nuttiness beyond normal human words. There’s a video clip of Moore proudly riding his mighty steed. What the hell is it with these authoritarians and horses: Putin on horseback, Francisco Franco on horseback, Mussolini on horseback waving a huge sword. I really feel sorry for the horses. Now we have this tush hole from Alabama in his cowboy hat, waving a pistol like he’s some deranged Roy Rogers from the Twilight Zone.
I find that I must add this disclaimer: I am not now nor have I ever been a [libertarian].
