Remember when Trump said he knew how to act “presidential”? Remember when he said he would be even more presidential than any president except “the late, Great Abraham Lincoln”?
As we say in Brooklyn, fuhgedaboutit! (Translation: forget about it.)
Last night in Alabama, he ranted and raved and led cheers of “lock her up.” Did the late, great Abraham Lincoln do that in the middle of the Civil War?
He was there to support the aptly named Senator Luther Strange, who was appointed by the disgraced ex-governor Robert Bentley to fill Jeff Sessions’ term in the Senate. His opponent, ahead in the polls, is the far-far-far right extremist Roy Moore, who was twice removed as Chef Judge of the Alabama Court for refusing to remove a plaque of the Ten Commandments from public grounds. Now he is running against homosexuality. Moore is supported by Steve Bannon, the deep thinker of the alt-right, and Sarah Palin, the paragon of morality.
But read what he said!
“The campaign has largely focused on McConnell. Moore has attacked the Senate majority leader as a creature of the “swamp” that Trump wishes to drain while Strange has tried to distance himself from the Kentucky Republican. Strange went as far as to assert in his brief introductory remarks on Friday night that Trump was backing him so that he could have the votes in the Senate to “stand up to Mitch McConnell.” The President later asserted that Strange “didn’t know” the Senate majority leader…
“Hours after John McCain torpedoed Republican hopes to repeal and replace Obamacare, Trump expressed his disappointment. He said McCain’s opposition was “totally unexpected and terrible”. He also chided the Arizona Republican for what he saw as hypocrisy. “Repeal and replace, John McCain if you look at his last campaign it’s all about repeal and replace and that’s fine, we still have a good chance [of repealing and replacing Obamacare.” He described his attempts to court senators on health care, saying “I’m on the phone screaming at people all day long for weeks”.
Trump also returned to some of his favourite topics. He talked at length about the wall he hopes to build on the Mexican border, insisting it needed to be see-through. Trump said this was because drug dealers are currently using catapults to send 100 pound bags of drugs over the existing concrete wall and they are landing on people’s heads in the United States. He also responded the familiar cheers of “lock her up” directed at Hillary Clinton by telling the crowd “you gotta speak to Jeff Sessions about that”.
“The president also dwelled on NFL players who take a knee during the National Anthem in peaceful protest. He asked the crowd, “Wouldn’t you love one of the NFL owners when someone disrespects our flag, ‘get that son of a bitch off the field right now.’” He told attendees, “If you see it, leave the stadium, I guarantee things will stop.”
Trump uses his platform not to appeal to “the better angels of our nature” or to educate, but to rant, pander, and vent.

“There were no Russians in Pennsylvania” D.T.
There were to many of them in trump tower to get down the elevator.

Jaw droppingly appalling! He is a monumental disgrace and an ever present danger to the nation.

I heard him plant and promote dangerous ideas, fundamentally endorsing monster tactics over any respect for the Constitution and Bill of Rights. He enjoys freedom of speech and the “bully pulpit” redefined as his pulpit to bully people. He likes to be perceived as a dictator. No wonder he he feels upstaged and threatened by his critics.

When is this ignoramus going to get over Hillary? He can’t stand a woman with power. He can’t stand anyone who doesn’t bow. He has to be mean and continues to put down McCain. Who is he to talk about disrespecting the flag at football games?
He wants a dictatorship like Saudi Arabia. He admired the total lack of protest in that country when he visited.
I agree with Joe: “He is a monumental disgrace and an ever present danger to the nation.”

What about ‘court jester’: A jester, court jester, or fool, was historically an entertainer during the medieval and Renaissance eras who was a member of the household of a nobleman or a monarch employed to entertain him and his guests. A jester was also an itinerant performer who entertained common folk at fairs and markets. Jesters are also modern-day entertainers who resemble their historical counterparts.

Trump is appealing to his fascistic base. Understand that I do not equate those who voted for Trump, and found no alternative in Clinton; mainly working class people who wanted to give the establishment the “finger”, with the fascistic flotsam stirred up from the bottom. If Trump does runs for President again, he will run as an “independent”, in reality, as head of a fascist party a la Mussolini.

I especially love the twitter responses from professional athletes calling out Trump’s disgusting attack on Kaepernick and then Steph Curry. Nothing like a pro athlete to out trash talk the trash talker in chief.

Finally, the truth, at least once in his lifetime. This is exactly how the Kremlin’s Agent Orange rules: by “screaming at people all day long for weeks”.
Since this Orange Ebola Virus doesn’t know how to make a deal through compromise, this is how he manages things: “he screams at people all day long for weeks.”
I’ver read that he screams at his staff all the time things don’t go his way and this explains the revolving door and deplorable, depressing state of morale.
This is similar to how he has become such a successful businessman through bankruptcy and court cases by the thousands with hundreds of out-of-court settlements.

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, out, he’s fired. He’s fired!’” Trump said. “You know, some owner is gonna do that. He’s gonna say, ‘That guy disrespects our flag, he’s fired.’ And that owner, they don’t know it. They don’t know it. They’re friends of mine, many of them. They don’t know it. They’ll be the most popular person, for a week. They’ll be the most popular person in this country.”
“If Luther doesn’t win, they’re not going to say we picked up 25 points in a very short period of time. They’re going to say, ‘Donald Trump, the president of the United States, was unable to pull his candidate across the line. It is a terrible, terrible moment for Trump. This is total embarrassment’.”

Most if not all of the NFL owners are in it for the money and/or the love of the game, and those players are under contract. I think it is a safe bet that if an owner throws one of those players off of his or her team, the payout to the player would be enormous.
Of course, Trump, the Kremlin’s Agent Orange, would throw them off his team if he had one and then refuse to honor the contract he signed and dare the player to take him to court where he would lose but settle out of court for less before the verdict.

Trump really stepped in deep doodoo this time.
Teams all over the country are #takeaknee in protest. The NFL teams are angry. The NBA teams are angry. Team owners are showing solidarity with their players. So are managers.
#takeaknee is trending on Twitter. Vets are speaking out. Lots of others. Trump of course doubles down, and his spineless Treasury Secretary Mnuchin says that players should protest “off the field.” Apparently First Amendment rights have limits for those who disagree with Trump.
There is a firestorm in the media, on the playing fields, and on Twitter (Trump’s favorite venue). It is no longer about Colin Kaepernick. It is Trump vs. all those players who protect racism.

Trump went too far in his Alabama speeches. By his demand that the owners fire anyone who protests the National Anthem, by withdrawing an invitation to the White House to a star basketball player, he has set off a firestorm of resistance among professional athletes. The football players are now going to their knee in tribute to Colin Kaepernick, the basketball players are furious. The red state Trump supporters are seeing real resistance.
You just don’t push these guys around. Not even Trump can get away with that.

His ‘lock her up” crowd is vile and together with #45, are an ugly ugly part of our country. #45 is not alone. He knows he could shoot someone on 5th Ave and his followers will follow. He said so. Not fake. It is tragically real.
I recall Jones and his “groupies” who drank the “kool-ade.

we can be humane?
