This morning, Trump retweeted a fabricated video of himself hitting a golf ball, which flies through the air and hits Hillary Clinton in the back, knocking her to the floor as she boards an airplane. This is simply appalling. He is boasting of his domination of her, boasting of his violent impulses, projecting his wish to harm her physically. His supporters think it is funny. They would think it was funny if he literally punched Clinton in the face. This man is not normal. Perhaps other men have fantasies about striking women. Perhaps they actually strike women. But they are not the President of the United States. This man is utterly lacking in impulse control or dignity. He’s got no class.
Since the 1964 campaign, most mental health professionals have avoided making judgments about the mental capacity of politicians. This pronciple–not diagnosing someone you have not personally evaluated–is known as the “Goldwater Rule,” because so many professionals offered long distance diagnoses of Republican candidate Barry Goldwater. Goldwater lost in a landslide to Lyndon B. Johnson.
Dr. Lance Dodes says that the Goldwater Rule is a violation of free speech and is obsolete. If, in fact, a psychiatrist had actually examined Donald Trump, he or she would not be permitted to speak because of ironclad rules about doctor-patient confidentiality.
There are two ways to judge a person’s mental health, he says: words and deeds.
In his opinion, Trump is a sociopath, a liar, and a malignant narcissist.
“Trump’s case of narcissism is particularly severe because he also is out of touch with reality whenever he becomes upset. When he says, “I had the largest crowd at an inauguration in history,” it does not matter that you can tell him that it is not true, he still insists on it. Well, that is very troublesome because what it means is that he needs to believe it. He is able to give up reality in exchange for his wished-for belief. Sometimes we call that a delusion. We have not used that word much with Donald Trump because that does get confused with people who think that they are Napoleon. But Trump has a fluid sense of reality, which is a sign of a very sick individual.
“Sociopathy itself is a sign of a very sick individual, someone with a lying, cheating and emotional disorder. The intersection of those two occurs in sociopathy. It is not just bad behavior that people have to lie and cheat the way he does, it is an incapacity to treat other people as full human beings. That is why his focus is on humiliating others to aggrandize himself, as he did in the Republican primaries when he was debating and calling people names. The same thing applies to Hispanic immigrants and separating the children from their parents. That is a very, very serious mental and emotional problem. Normal people have normal empathy. It is part of being a human being. Lying and cheating and humiliating others and grinding them into dust in order to triumph is not just bad behavior. It is a serious mental illness.”
When you recall how he belittled other candidates, both Republicans and Democrats, Dr. Dodes’ conclusion rings true.
An interesting interview. Worth reading in full.

I remember when people voted against Goldwater because they thought he was dangerous. Now, as back then, we don’t need a medical degree to determine if someone’s unfit to be president. All we need is a little common sense, apparently something that too few people have. trump: “Armed and dangerous” for sure.

Trump retweets video of him hitting Clinton with golf ball
US president Donald Trump on Sunday retweeted a doctored video of himself taking a golf swing and hitting former Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton, who then stumbles as she boards a plane.
Clinton had been back on the Republican president’s Twitter feed in recent days as she promoted What Happened, her new book about the 2016 presidential campaign, with Mr Trump resuming his campaign attack of “Crooked Hillary”.
The video, retweeted by several users, shows Mr Trump on a golf course hitting a ball before segueing to the doctored shot of a golf ball hitting then-secretary of state Clinton in the back as she is boarding a plane. The original video of Ms Clinton, from 2011, does not show a golf ball.

Trump’s video may very well be retaliation for Hillary being in the spotlight again doing press for her book. In discussing the stalking debate, Hillary stated she consdered saying,”Back off, creep!” Trump has perseveration issues as he has trouble letting things go. Joel, you make some good points, but you are also conveniently leaving out some others. You are correct that Hillary kept campaigning. However, when she stopped, she AND her supporters threw their support to Obama.
Were there pro-Hillary people booing in the convention hall saying that Obama was an illegitimate candidate because he got all the super delegates? Did they mutter that Obama had “stolen” the election?
Did the Hillary supporters spend the entire summer and fall right up to election day talking about how nasty and dishonest and corrupt Obama was? Did they repeat the right wing talking points ad nauseam — “superpredators”, “desplorables” to offer evidence about what a liar Obama was? Did they then deny that they were responsible for any loss of popularity by saying “but we kept telling voters we planned to hold our noses and vote for the guy we kept telling them was a corrupt liar so why blame us?”

Now I have watched the ENTIRE video of Hillary Clinton on The View. When I posted earlier I had only watched the carefully edited propaganda piece in which you took great pains to attack Hillary Clinton’s CHARACTER. Your posting THIS edited piece of propaganda in order to mount a character attack on Hillary when Diane is posting about Trump’s truly frightening actions just demonstrates my point. You helped defeat her. You and the other Bernie bots got played for fools by the right wing and repeated every piece of propaganda they put out. And good job — voters believed you.
Anyone who could watch the ENTIRE video of Hillary Clinton’s appearance on The View and post as Joel did:
“What would a Psychologist say about the inability to own up to ones own failures . I believe that is comparable to the inability to accept not winning the popular vote or Obama packing the Mall while your small hands were only matched by the small crowd size.”
Look how Joel tries desperately to say that Trump’s actions are no different than Hillary’s? It’s exactly the same nastiness that voters heard throughout the campaign from self-identified Democrats like Joel. Sure Trump is bad, but look how nasty and psychologically disturbed Hillary is.
Watch the ENTIRE Hillary 30 minute appearance on The View instead of Joel’s carefully edited anti-Hillary propaganda designed to inflame Bernie bots to hate her. It could have been produced by the Russians. And mourn that there are still people who hate Hillary with such a passion that they want to turn the discussion about Trump’s failings into an attack on Hillary. As they did during the entire campaign because they wanted to make sure we knew that Trump is no worse than Hillary. And no, voting for her when you’ve worked so hard to promote this kind of propaganda piece doesn’t absolve you of your responsibility. “She’s just as bad as Trump” look at this edited video I’m posting to convince you to think about how terrible Hillary is. But I claim I voted for her so no one is allowed to criticize me.”
I only with THIS woman was our President. She spoke in the most sensible manner. You took a question out of context to smear her character. As the Bernie bots did throughout the campaign. And it was those kinds of attacks by people like you that brought us Trump.

No one is “blaming” Bernie for the entirety of Hillary’s loss – including Hillary herself. She — and I — absolutely agree she made mistakes. As ALL candidates make mistakes.
We Democrats love to blame all our losers and we keep losing and losing because whenever we lose we refuse to look at the entirety of the campaign. Blaming the candidate is the laziest excuse in the world. It’s like Trump. It goes for what is easy instead of nuance.
But Bernie’s supporters non-stop repeating of the right wing propaganda gave it far more power than it should have. There is a reason that Hillary Clinton went from being one of the most admired women in the country (as Sec. of State) to one of the least trusted candidates in American history. And if you don’t see how the constant attacks from people on the left — not legitimate criticisms where they had policy differences, but nasty attacks where the left repeated the worst propaganda of the right to mis-characterize Hillary as the most corrupt and dishonest candidate in history.
Hillary is correct. She NEVER did that to Obama. Neither did her supporters. I would have been appalled in 2008 if Hillary lovers had spent the entire summer and fall as Bernie supporters did telling the country what a lying corrupt nasty person Obama was. No one did. When the right wing tried it, the Hillary supporters SHUT IT DOWN. They didn’t say “yes you are right she is such a dishonest greedy liar”. And saying “I voted for the liar after I helped the right wing do their dirty work smearing her character as dishonest and untrustworthy so don’t blame me.”
Look at how Joel focused more on Hillary than Trump. He is typical of the disaffected Dems who voted for Hilary as they spent the entire fall telling the world that we shouldn’t trust her.
And no, Hillary supporters did not do that to Bernie. Please don’t re-write history. Maybe then we won’t be doomed to repeat it.

Bernie didn’t. I absolutely agree he gave Hillary a strong endorsement. But he decided that his supporters were right that Hillary was a corrupt and lying tool of the right wing who couldn’t wait to sell out America. Do you know why I know Bernie thought his supporters were correct in saying that? Because he never once told them in no uncertain terms that they should shut up because they were telling absolute lies.

I agree. But all that dark money NEEDS gullible and disaffected Democrats who are so angry their own candidate lost the primary that they help give that propaganda a resonance it would not have if it was ONLY coming from Breitbart.
Voters realize that Breitbart can’t be trusted. But why shouldn’t we trust someone like Joel, who is a Democrat and has been for 30 years and only wants what is best for our country. THAT is what gives all that dark money power. When he posts an edited piece of propaganda to convince us that Hillary Clinton is just as bad as Trump, it has power and the dark money NEEDS that.
There was just as much dark money during the Obama campaign. They tried to make the same nasty attacks on Obama that they did against Hillary. The only difference is that Hillary supporters weren’t giving their nasty propaganda credibility by saying that it was true!
It is not being a circular firing squad to point out this truth. Republicans want us to ignore this. Republicans want us to keep saying “if only we have a different candidate we will win.” We think that Bernie is immune. We think that Elizabeth Warren is immune. We think that Russ Feingold is immune. So we attack the losing candidates who point out how that propaganda works and say they should shut up and just admit they were terrible candidates. And we change nothing.
We have got to stop helping the right wing hit jobs do their dirty work. Hillary Clinton supporters did not do this to Obama. But we did that to Kerry and Gore. Read the kind of characterizations of Kerry and Gore that came from supposed “liberals” during the campaign. The exaggerator. The liar.
Hillary Clinton rightly pointed out that she made sure her supporters did not repeat the nasty right wing attacks on Obama when she lost to him. Or maybe her supporters just loved their country more than they loved having sour grapes.
Joel’s posting of this edited piece of propaganda “proving” that Hillary Clinton was just as deranged as Trump and riling up Bernie voters showing how awful and corrupt her character is — that is exactly what went on during the late summer and fall. Non-stop. Breitbart posts an attack and the Bernie bros lap it up and give it far more credibility as “progressives” or “democrats”. They did it every time to distract from Trump’s failings.
That is the circular firing squad. Not legitimate criticism but nasty character attacks from Breitbart that the self-described Democrats repeat non-stop and give a credibility that propaganda should not have.

It is naive that a viable third party will be immune to these kind of attacks if the disaffected supporters of the losing candidate post them over and over again. Even if the disaffected supporters DON’T help the right wing do their dirty work, it’s hard. Look what happened to Russ Feingold. The propaganda works.
The only reason you haven’t seen it working on Bernie is because it has not been used on him yet. When it does, the people who voted for Hillary Clinton won’t help by repeating it over and over again to convince voters that even progressive know that Bernie will sell us out to DFER or the NRA. See, it’s very possible to cherry-pick one nasty action that Bernie did and then shout non-stop what a hypocrite he is. It’s easy to make character attacks if you take something out of context.
Joel proved exactly how this works by posting this. He wanted everyone to know that lots of Democrats — not right wingers but Dems — knew that Hillary was as demented as Trump. Just as you believe she is as corrupt as Trump. No difference. And Joel had the video to prove it. Why shouldn’t we all believe him?
You help the Republicans defeat even the progressive democrats who run for office and then complain we need to destroy the entire Democratic party for some third party nirvana.
LISTEN to what Hillary Clinton said in that interview instead of Joel’s cherry picked propaganda designed to make her appear just as bad as Trump.
She said that we need to have a DEBATE about issues. Sometimes Republicans have POV that actually are worthwhile. You can’t just say “your viewpoint is because you are corrupt and doing what rich people tell you to do.” You need to listen and figure out why the person is saying that and decide if they have a point.
Just like Bernie and Warren support “public charters”. Instead of dismissing their support for them as the result of them trying to please billionaire masters and saying “we need to tell the country how corrupt and dishonest Bernie and Warren are”, we need to talk about the issues. We both know that voting them out of office because we are certain there is a better pro-public education politician who will replace the lying and dishonest Bernie and Warren is counter productive. And it is nonsense. It is a LIE. It is exactly what the right wing propaganda wants to convince the public is true. You seem to understand it when it comes to Bernie and Warren.
Although sometimes you scare me. I worry that the right wing propaganda will convince you next time that it is Elizabeth Warren who needs to be attacked — she is a nasty Democrat after all. And you will help Breitbart do their dirty work to smear her and repeat every one of their talking points as you did with Hillary. And Americans will believe it because it is coming from someone who is otherwise thoughtful and not just Breitbart.
dienne77, ask yourself why the right wing was so scared of Hillary. She WAS the progressive. They have known that for 30 years. She scared them more than any other politician and their hatred of her SHOULD have told you that there was something good about her instead of your believing the nastiest of propaganda.
You sided with the right wing billionaires who worked so hard to convince you that Hillary Clinton was immoral, corrupt and would sell you out. They were so scared of Clinton that they spent inordinate amounts of money investigating her, attacking her, undermining her. Dozens of Benghazi investigations. Shouldn’t that tell you something? The right knew she was dangerous. TO THEM. What a shame you bought their propaganda hook, line and sinker.
And I worry you will do the same with Elizabeth Warren once they get done with her.

But when anyone calls you out on your actions, you pretend you were just giving an “honest” assessment of tjeir character. How can you help it than Diane Ravitch can’t think straight? Someone has to call it out and you are just being honest to do so!
And if the pro-charter folks take your quote and say “look, even the people who support public schools KNOW that Diane Ravitch can’t think straight so it must be true” and use it to destroy and undermine Diane and everything she stands for, you would say “how can I be responsible just because I correctly pointed out how she can’t think straight?”

When progressives call a liberal democrat corrupt and help the right wing candidate win, they are just doing it because they “love their country”. They are blameless for helping elect Nixon and making Humphrey look like a war-mongering right winger because Humphrey WAS a war-mongering right winger! He was exactly how they characterized him. They were absolutely right to attack his character and help so many young people understand that they should not trust Humphrey.
Just like you are working so hard to convince people not to trust any Democrat.

Trump Administration Refuses to Turn Over Mar-A-Lago Records
A watchdog group is threatening to renew a legal fight against the Trump administration following the White House’s decision Friday to withhold the names of thousands of people who have visited the president’s exclusive Florida club since January….
A recent investigation by USA Today showed that 50 executives who have companies with federal contracts and 21 lobbyists are members of at least one of Trump’s three private golf clubs that he has visited most often since becoming president—and two-thirds of them have played golf on days that Trump was there.

He is peeved today because the other protests had large crowd sized on the Ntl. Mall yesterday than his support rally. And he feels threatened by N. And he made stupid dorky twitter remarks about the London tube bombing and was rebuked by May for his tweets. He also didn’t get to jaunt to Maralago this weekend. So, what’s dorky crybabyman going to do when his bonnet is full of bees? He’s going to throw his toys electronically at the woman who was formidable (and still is) to his progress in reaching his goals. In spite of her defeat she once again is rising from the ashes. The woman whose husband could have shamed her (and most women could never have overcome what he did) stood up dusted herself off and ran for president, lost to a black man, went on to take a position in his cabinet, ran again and lost again. And she has the courage to write all about it for posterity and show up all over the place on tv, in bookstores, with confidence and courage. How could a man of such minimal fortitude as trump ever deal with the woman he beat not whimpering and melting? Whether he is mentally sick or not I cannot determine as I am not qualified. But I am qualified to exclaim that he it a pitiful pathetic sore winner. He reminds us every day 24/7 that he is not capable of the position to which he has been “elected”. His wife made the claim that she would fight cyberbullying but so far nothing from her but crickets on his lowdown dirtydog tweets.

“Liar” is not a clinical diagnosis. It’s simply a descriptive term for someone who lies. Sociopathy is not in the DSM (nor is psychopathy). The clinical term is “Antisocial Personality Disorder” and is somewhat different from either sociopathy or psychopathy. There is also no such thing as “malignant” narcissism. The clinical term is “Narcissistic Personality Disorder”.
People are certainly free to throw whatever adjectives they want at Trump and it’s hard to argue with most of them. But mental health diagnoses, like physical health diagnoses, are to be made solely by health professionals under proper clinical conditions (and, yes, are bound by confidentiality rules). It’s harmful and stigmatizing to throw around such diagnoses casually. If nothing else, it’s stigmatizing to people who suffer from mental health disorders. If you wouldn’t presume to diagnose Trump with cancer or diabetes, have the same respect for mental health diagnoses.
In any case, as mentioned above, we certainly don’t need a mental health diagnosis to know that Trump is not fit to serve as president. The trick is figuring out what to do about that. Even if we had a properly obtained diagnosis by a properly credentialed mental health professional, that would not make it any easier to get him out of office. Trump has already committed dozens of impeachable or potentially impeachable offenses. I don’t see Congress moving to act on any of them. Let me know when someone has a real solution to that problem that doesn’t involve further disgracing a profession that has done plenty to disgrace itself.

Incidentally, speaking of disgracing, you’d think Harvard would learn to STFU. dienne77,
I don’t think you understand what Diane is saying. She has always welcomed criticism and discussion.
That’s not what you did with Hillary Clinton. You made character attacks on her. Similar to how Joel posted a carefully edited video to make it seem as if Hillary was as psychologically demented as Trump was. It’s hard to “debate” a character attack. It’s hard to debate someone who insists that you can’t trust anything the person claims to stand for during the campaign. They are not to be trusted. How do you “debate” that?
Imagine if you tried to discuss Bernie’s policies with someone and they just kept repeating “he’s a liar and you can’t trust anything he says because he voted for pro-gun policies like the NRA wanted and his wife got a lot of money from rich people who knew she was lying about her college’s finances but they wanted to help her keep her large salary so they could get Bernie on their side.”
Imagine if you tried to discuss Bernie’s policies with someone and they just kept repeating over and over again the right wing character assassination attacks on Bernie as if they were the gospel truth.
Imagine if the person who had just attacked Bernie with right wing propaganda told you that the only reason you support him is because “you can’t think straight”.
How would you feel?
By the way, I have no problem working to support a third party. But I have no interest in working with people whose goal is to undermine every Democrat as a corrupt liar if they have a policy disagreement with them. Especially when they are hypocrites who look the other way when they have a policy disagreement with a politician they like.
I am an old third party hand. After all, I voted for the third party candidate because I wanted to defeat Jimmy Carter. I was just as certain that Jimmy Carter was a lying right wing war mongering sell-out to corporate and Wall Street billionaires as you are certain that Hillary Clinton is.
In 1980, I listened to people like you telling me how evil and corrupt Jimmy Carter was and how awful the Democratic party was and voted for the third party candidate. I made sure to repeat over and over again now nasty and corrupt Jimmy Carter was and how the Democrats were the most corrupt party ever. Not only did I help make sure Carter’s corrupt character was “revealed” to all voters, but I also helped to defeat lots of great Democrats who went down to defeat that year. Was that Jimmy Carter’s fault? He was so corrupt that he brought down a slew of good progressive Democrats?
Or was it people like me who were so certain of our own righteousness that we could not see how we were doing the dirty work of the right wing by attacking the entire Democratic Party, led by the most corrupt candidate ever — Jimmy Carter?

^^And something you should think about as you attack the Democrats:
Ted Kennedy’s “the dream will never die” speech was at the 1980 convention after he lost his challenge to Carter.
There were plenty of Ted Kennedy supporters who watched it and were absolutely certain of Jimmy Carter’s corrupt and dishonest nature. Just like Bernie’s fans could watch Bernie and just know that Hillary Clinton was just as corrupt as Jimmy Carter. No redeeming qualities at all. No different than Reagan.
Carter did NOT like that how he was characterized by Kennedy during that campaign. He even criticized it – decades later! He even said it hurt his campaign! How dare he! Carter must be as psychologically disturbed as Hillary Clinton and Trump to say something like that.
Wrong. Carter was a good man. He happened to be more conservative than Kennedy on some issues. That didn’t mean he was no different than Reagan. That didn’t mean he was a tool of right wing bankers or corporations.
And I think history has proven that I was wrong.

And, also incidentally, the Goldwater Rule cannot be a “violation of free speech” because it is not a law or other governmental order. It’s simply a professional standard. Most decent people, for instance, refrain from using the word “retard” (Rahm Emanuel not being in the category of “decent people”) out of respect and/or fear of social opprobrium. We wouldn’t claim that the social prohibition on that word is a violation of free speech.

Great response about our looney Orange “Leader” from David Letterman.
……………..
Via The Chicago Tribune, here is David Letterman’s full response after being asked if he missed late-night hosting, now that most of the current shows consist of Trump jokes and tirades.
“Do you miss not being part of that?”
“Here’s what I keep saying: We know there’s something wrong, but what I’m tired of is people ― daily, nightly, on all the cable news shows ― telling us there’s something wrong. I just think we ought to direct our resources and our energies to doing something about it. And other people have made this point: If the guy was running Dairy Queen, he’d be gone. This guy couldn’t work at The Gap. So why do we have to be victimized by his fecklessness, his ignorance? But it’s just the behavior is insulting to Americans, whether you voted for him or not ― and I feel bad for people who did vote for him because he promised them things that they really needed and one wonders if he’s really going to come through. I know there’s trouble in this country and we need a guy who can fix that trouble. I wish it was Trump, but it’s not, so let’s just stop whining about what a goon he is and figure out a way to take him aside and put him in a home.“

Even when we disagree, I also know that Joel and dienne77 also care passionately about public education and this country. If I didn’t respect them so much I wouldn’t even bother trying to convince them that they are wrong : ) (Only on the subject of Hillary, in my humble opinion.)
But as far as I can tell, you are the only person who will post a gratuitous reply like the one above — “People do like to talk about Hillary Clinton” — for no good reason except to remind us that you are around. You don’t actually seem to have an opinion one way or another — or at least one that you care to share.

You know, many years ago, when the website DailyKos was fairly new, commenters who got tired of the squabbling and insults that occurred from time to time on different threads, used to post recipes as a way to try and perhaps get people’s minds off of those types of disagreements.
So in the interest of peace and harmony (or at least something good for your taste buds), here is a Greek recipe.
Moussaka
2 Tbs olive oil
1 1/2 lbs ground lamb or half lamb half ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
3 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 cup red wine
8 ounces tomato sauce
2 Tbs chopped Italian parsley
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
3 lbs eggplant
4 to 6 Tbs olive oil
1 recipe Béchamel sauce (see below)
1 cup bread crumbs
2 cups grated kefalotyri cheese, or use Parmesan or Romano
3 Tbs melted butter
Heat the 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over moderate heat. Add the chopped meat and onion and garlic and brown, stirring frequently to crumble the meat. Add the wine, parsley, cinnamon, salt, and pepper, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, partly covered, for 30 minutes, until most of the liquid has been reduced. Meanwhile, peel and cut the eggplant into slices 1/2 inch (1 cm) thick and arrange on baking sheets. Brush both sides with olive oil and bake in a preheated 350F (180C) oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until the eggplant is tender. Arrange half the eggplant slices in the bottom of a medium-sized baking dish. Sprinkle with half the bread crumbs and 1/2 cup of cheese. Spread the meat mixture over the eggplant, followed by another 1/2 cup of cheese. Add another layer of eggplant, followed by the béchamel. Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan and bread crumbs on top, add another grating of nutmeg on top, and drizzle with the melted butter. Bake in a preheated 350F (180C) oven for 30 to 40 minutes, until the top is lightly browned. Serves 6 to 8.
6 Tbs butter
8 Tbs flour
4 cups milk
Salt and white pepper to taste
A grating of fresh nutmeg
Two eggs
Melt the butter in a saucepan over moderate heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, until it has lost the floury aroma. Do not allow to brown. Add the milk and stir, making sure to dissolve any lumps that have formed. Heat, stirring frequently, until the sauce comes to a simmer and becomes thick. Add the salt, pepper, 1/2 cup cheese, and nutmeg. Beat the eggs. Let the sauce cool a bit, then add a little of it at a time to the eggs, beating all the while, until about two cups has been incorporated, then slowly pour this back into the pot, still beating the whole time. Makes 4 cups.

If you like eggplant (which we Greeks do), it is good.
(Not everybody does, but if they don’t, they can make this with zucchini, although it’s not nearly as good.)
And to tie it to education in a very vague way, if you saw “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” (the original) years ago, you may remember that the young woman protagonist, Tula, in a flashback, had taken some moussaka to school and when her schoolmates asked her “What’s that?” and when she answered, they laughed and said “Moose-kaka!”

Dear Susan, what about these differences in approach to N. Korea between Obama and Trump? One recognizes consequences and the other is blustering.
……….
“It’s not something that lends itself to an easy solution,” Mr. Obama said. “We could, obviously, destroy North Korea with our arsenals. But aside from the humanitarian costs of that, they are right next door to our vital ally, Republic of Korea.”
So, Obama was making a statement about why he couldn’t destroy North Korea.
………………….
Meanwhile what was it Trump said?
“If it is forced to defend itself or its allies,” Trump said, “We will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea. Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself, and for his regime.”
Obama: Why we can’t destroy. Trump: Why we have no choice but to destroy. Sanders: There’s no difference.

Why Trump’s U.N. Speech Was a Triumph
…One of the most refreshing things about Trump’s address—it is characteristic of his speeches—was his frankness. At the U.N., this had a positive as well as a critical side. On the positive side, I found it a breath of fresh air to hear an American president celebrate the achievements of America.
“The United States of America,” Trump said, “has been among the greatest forces for good in the history of the world, and the greatest defenders of sovereignty, security, and prosperity for all.” This is the simple truth, but I do not recall hearing such sentiments from the White House in recent years.
On the critical side, Trump was equally forthright. He affirmed his intention to battle threats to sovereignty from “the Ukraine to the South China Sea.”…
