Betsy DeVos visits Omaha today.
She must be upset that Nebraska has no vouchers and no charters.
Nebraska has great public schools!

NEBRASKA LOVES PUBLIC SCHOOLS!!

Reblogged this on David R. Taylor-Thoughts on Education and commented:
Since my wife is from Omaha and will vouch for the quality of the public school I would love to move my family there. The main factor deterring us from moving back there is we have both gotten used to not shoveling snow and 6 months of gray skies.
As for DeVos I hope she is greeted with a chilly reception. He ideas are not needed or welcome in Nebraska

That is absolutely dreadful! Only 12 days into a school year and this was likely the child’s first experience in school. Prince George’s County, MD lost their HeadStart funding last year because of abuse to children. I don’t know if the Head Start programs were in Charter or Public schools because MD has a very strange partnership between the Charter and public sector….but PG county along with Baltimore City have the most charter schools in our state. To do harm to the elderly, disabled and children is just beyond imagination. What has our society become and where are all the good people who can make a difference?

A now retired teacher at Norman North High School offered a READING FOR PLEASURE class, which students could take over and over again as many times as they desired. This class made a HUGE difference for ALL the students. When I learned about this highschool course and what the students acquired from this course taught by Ms. Swisher, I was heartened. When Ms. Swisher retired, another teacher took over this course. I hope it is still being offered, because this Reading for Pleasure course totally rocks.
When Ms. Swisher taught this course, the students select the books they WANT TO READ and there were NO ridiculous requirements other than READ the self-selected book. Of course, Ms. Swisher introduced books to her students. I have more anecdotal data about how successful this READING for PLEASURE class is.
And, Lynn Stoddard, another educator in Oklahoma has been key in the PUSH BACK against the repressive DEFORMS in education for Oklahoma: https://www.deseretnews.com/article/765617691/Authentic-accountability-in-education.html
These two people have made a huge difference in Oklahoma … Ms. Swisher at the local level, and Mr. Stoddard at the state level.

Then they need to hold up RESISTANCE SIGNS. DeVoodoo is such a ditz, without protest signs she’ll turn it around and say that her lame ideas are supported.

Back in 1970 Nebraska voters defeated a school voucher proposal in a statewide referendum by 57% to 43%. Take that, Betsy DeVos. — Edd Doerr
