CNN reports on Trump’s speech in Phoenix. He is now campaigning for his 2020 re-election. He revived his take-no-prisoners rhetorical style, attacked the two Republican senators from Arizona, and even threatened to shut down the government unless Congress appropriates the money to build The Wall. His claim that “they” are taking away “our culture” and “our history” sounded like the white supremacists in Charlottesville.
Can he govern while attacking McConnell, McCain, Flake, Heller, and other Republicans? Can he bully them into acquiescence? He has offered support to Senator Flake’s primary opponent, a conspiracy theorist.
Today, he speaks in Nevada, where he will probably attack Senator Dean Heller.

Did the presidential Trump ever arrive?

He said war stuff a couple days ago and it sounded like something the President might say.

I always watch but what I will not do is listen to the media who have been corrupted by special interests and thus report only what they are told to report on. The media today is owned by a handful of individuals. As few as fifty years ago, the media was owned by over one hundred individuals. The message has been bought and thus it is compromised. I will pass on CNN, FOX, MSNBC, and the likes.

I watched part of Trump’s speech. I was turned off by his animus and bile. I later saw clips in which he insulted Senator John McCain and Senator Jeff Flake, the two Republican Senators from Arizona. And another clip where he threatened to shut down the government if Congress didn’t fund the Wall. I thought that Mexico was going to pay for the Wall. Now, we learn that Trump expects hard-working taxpayers to fund his Wall. Why didn’t he say so during the campaign?

For those who can stomach the speech, here’s a good counterpoint:

I could only take a couple of minutes of his Phoenix speech when I switched the channel in total disgust. The man is demented and without merit.

While I couls only stomach watching about 20 minutes, I am even more alarmed at his repeated attackes on almost all news outlets. He did praise Fox News. His hateful rhetoric about the news is frightening to me because seems to be laying the groundwork for his supporters to disbelieve everything in the news except for his annointed outlet. Not only will this drive the country further apart, it could also lead to a trump-state sanctioned media outlet.

Scary isn’t it. I do not understand why this man is still in office in this country. The demonstrations we are seeing remind me of what went on in Egypt and other Arab countries when we were talking about the Arab Spring.

I can’t watch the man. I will read about the latest effluvia that spews from his mouth or tune in to a trusted media source after the fact, but watching him speak, especially live, is too ugly. He is campaigning for office, not leading. I have these crazy fears–paranoia I guess–that he will try to cancel the next presidential election on some pretext of imminent danger. Less paranoid is my concern that he will encourage his forces of evil to really crack down on dissent. So we might anticipate seeing more injuries and even deaths as the anti-Trump forces protest at his public events. I just spent some time supporting a woman who was keeping a vigil at a roadside site with a memorial display for Heather Heyer on a busy corner in Bedminster, NJ. She stayed there for five days until Trump and his cohort left. I was taken aback by some of the behavior of motorists. Many indicated support through peace signs and fists up and horn blowing. Many truckers blew their air horns and gave peace signs. However, we saw plenty of motorists raise their middle fingers in the NJ Salute. One interesting individual stopped by to argue that there is plenty of racism in the Black community because they hold a Black Miss America Pageant and don’t let Caucasian women compete, and he assured us that he was not racist because he had an Asian girlfriend. Sometimes it is best just not to engage. The most disturbing incident I witnessed was a young girl, maybe 7 or 8 years old, hanging out of the back window of a minivan and yelling, “Make America great again.”

Possibly the most true thing anyone on this blog has ever posted about Trump. It’s hard to see, but I’m glad you said it. He deserves pity more than anything else. It’s not worth the energy to hate him.

It kind of amazes me that people still have anything left to say about Trump. I mean, really, what more could he do that would surprise you? News flash: Trump is odious. In fact, he enjoys being odious. And more to the point, he enjoys the reaction he gets from being odious. Stop giving him that reaction.

Trump would have to read Diane’s blog to be aware of my comments. Doubtful.

I just don’t get why you let him have the power of getting a reaction out of you at all. Doesn’t seem worth it to me.

I was getting worried that they had him under control . What worries me as much as his behavior, is the damage he could accomplish if he were normal . The last thing we need is for them to accomplish anything. Tax reform the nation desperately needs tax reform . For whom ? Infrastructure, we need Wall Street vultures to privatize our infrastructure? Short of what I can not have , a redo of the last election. There are no good alternatives . Fascists or Christo-Fascists some choice.
Go Donald go .

Let’s hope he keeps insulting Mitch McConnell, McCain, Flake, and other Republican senators. It is time for him to attack Corker of Tennessee, who questioned his stability.
Our best hope for survival is that nothing he wants gets done. Tax reform means lowering corporate taxes, which are already too low. Infrastructure means privatization of bridges, tunnels, highways, etc. Nothing on his agenda is good for the average American.

I cherish this nation. I have lived in an Islamic kingdom, where a woman who is raped, can be stoned to death for adultery (She had intercourse outside of marriage, when she was raped). I have lived in a communist dictatorship, where you can be brought to the public square and be publicly spanked for selling beer at 5c above the government-mandated price.
I have lived in Germany (1976-1978), and I have stood in a gas chamber, at an extermination camp.
The USA is NOT going down the road of these nations.
Nevertheless, all of us, on all sides of the political spectrum must remain vigilant.
This nation is not above criticism. Not only is it our right, it is our duty to speak up, when the government is going wrong.

Fake President Trump is insane and that makes him dangerous because he is the fake president.
I would have never thought the day would come that I’d welcome Reagan or G. W. Bush back to the White House. I couldn’t stand Reagan or G. W. but compared to Trump, they are at least sane and would not deliberately destroy their own country.

Trump can faithfully depend on militarism and belligerence being called “Presidential” by liberal and conservative pundits alike.
One-time Obama staffer and current CNN talking head Van Jones actually said that Trump “became President” when he bombed a Syrian military installation a few months ago.
