Public education activists have pleaded with Governor Rick Scott to veto HB 7069, because it diverts public money to charters and religious schools.
All to no avail.
Scott will sign 7069 today in Orlando at Morning Star Catholic School.

They’re in the thrall of voucher mania, Diane. They don’t care what happens to public schools.
Onward to victory over government schools! They must be defeated! So what if they still have millions of kids in them.

Public school students and parents should hire themselves an advocate and send that person to the state capitol.
Surely they should have ONE, right? Hold a bake sale.

Scott Walker is the biggest piece of crap anyone would ever want to know. This guy is getting away with crap because he is backed up by the lowly Koch bros and somehow Scott Walker is kissing their ass.
Scott Walker is a union buster as well. So, the issue is who is this guy? He is not a rich man but acts like one busting unions, trying to destroy teachers lives, trying to destroy public education.
The fact of the matter is that this guy is getting away with deteriorating the lives of hard working people yet no one seems to push back on this midget of a man – literally I believe he is very short like 5′ 5″ or so. I am waiting for someone to push back on this guy and to really shove it where the sun don’t shine.

Florida voters, please stop being Flori-duh. Stop voting for charlatan’s like Scott. While you are at it, please get rid of the dead wood, heavily invested in charters, in the legislature. It is the only way for the state to move forward.

Florida Today in Melbourne says teachers are thrilled because of the expanded best and brightest bonus program.
I have left teaching after 27 years because of just these issues.

The public education monopoly is giving way to an invigorating age of innovation. While not perfect this age of innovation born of competition allows us to shake off the barnacles that developed after decades of self-preserving policies promoted. Y teachers unions.

I hope you are being sardonic because if you believe the swill in your comment, you are brain dead and are incapable of critical thinking and problem-solving. You are part of the problem – not the solution.
There is no education monopoly. To even say that, it is obvious that you have no idea what a monopoly is. In the United States, about 90-percent of the funding that supports the public schools comes from the communities where those schools are located. That’s why those communities elect their own school boards. That is what a democracy does, elects representatives to oversee the local school districts and make sure they are obeying the ed code of each state.
15,000 different school districts divided up by 50 states is not a monopoly.
And teachers unions are not responsible for the top-down legislation from Washington DC and state capitals that caused this crap.
Every country ranked in the top five list of the International PISA test has K-12 public education systems that DOES NOT compete with corporate charters, vouchers, and virtual schools for the same public dollars. They also have powerful teachers unions and teachers are supported and treated like professionals, even in China.
