After learning that several regular commenters were unable to post comments, I contacted WordPress Support and told them of the problem. The two people I identified were, he told me, in the Spam folder. That was Ellen Lipubic and Artsegal. I realized I would have to review every item in the Spam folder to see if anyone else had been stranded there.
There were about 3,000 items in the Spam folder, and that was only the last 21 days! I scanned every single one and pulled out several regular contributors. Melissa Westbrook, Gitapik, Denis Ian, Jack Covey, Katie Osgood, Carolmalaysia, and several others.
I had to wade through hundreds of ads for Timberland boots, clock parts, contractors, sex ads, and ads in unfamiliar languages. Oh, and the ones that start by saying, “Hi, there, I love your blog. I want to start one too.”
Anyway, the lesson I learned was to check my Spam file regularly. After a few weeks, they are automatically deleted.
If you are one of those who were unable to post your comment in the past, try again. I’ll be watching.

It is sad that you really can’t go a week in Florida without hearing about some charter school scandal. This past week they involved a charter school repaying a loan it never took from its founder, I believe that is called money laundering and how Broward County may be on the hook for nearly two million dollars in debt that several failed charter schools accumulated by lying and cheating.

It’s odd, isn’t it, how these “agnostics” never “celebrate” public schools.
Another week in DC where public schools will either be denigrated or completely ignored, while they focus exclusively on charters and vouchers.
They take public school parents and students for granted. The assumption must be if they continue to allow our schools to exist we’ll thank them.
Public school kids deserve real advocates in government. Charters have them, and so do vouchers. This practice of brushing off public schools as some kind of disfavored default system that they’re “winding down” harms 90% of kids in the country.
I’m sick of having such lousy advocates. We can do better.

That’s nice. Maybe DC Democrats could explain to their voters what they’ve done for public schools- the vast majority of schools in the country.
It’s lovely that BOTH Republicans and Democrats spend all their time on charters and vouchers, but where does that leave public schools?
Can we get one person out of 500-some members of Congress who values our schools? One real advocate? That’s too much to ask?
Is it any wonder public schools fare so poorly under ed reform leadership? They’re never even mentioned on their own merits. They’re a throw-away line used to promote charters and vouchers.

Kentucky has been in pension denial for so long, that I think our Governor, Matt Bevin, is hoping Trump taps him for something in D.C. so he can duck the problem. Even the Governor says it is about $80 Billion. Yes, there WOULD be a multiplier effect!

“They must be wearing khaki pants and a gray polo shirt. It’s perhaps the strictest rule at Tulsa Honor Academy, which offers uniform scholarships to families who can’t afford them.
“Still, if a student has so much as a Nike swoosh on their socks, they can’t go to class and must wait in the office until someone brings them socks without a logo.”

You know, Ms. Urueta, if you didn’t ask kids to lift their pants legs up in the first place, you’d never see the damn Nike swoosh.
The same goes for asking kids to lift up their uniform polo shirts to check the the color of their belts. As you can see in the article’s photos, the students’ socks and belts are not visible otherwise. To verify the proper color of the kids’ socks and belts, the kids must submit to this indignity every damn day.
This is from this story of these two young TFA’s returning to Tulsa to save the city’s kids by opening a No Excuses charter school (and pull down six-figure salaries, no doubt).
The unwritten and underlying premise of the entire article, of course, is that Tulsa’s pre-existing public schools are beyond hope, so funding or supporting them in any way is a fool’s errand and a waste of taxpayer funds. No, instead, Tulsa students’ only hope is for ex-TFA’s will come in to town and open up a “No Excuses” charter school to poach away as many of those same students as possible. (All of this is orchestrated and funded by … wait till later in this post.) As for the students left behind — or later who return after being kicked out of the corporate charter — WELL, THAT’S NOT OUR PROBLEM, say the charterizers and privatizers.

I hate to go all-Jim-Horn on this particular issue, but there’s something sinister going on here. This morning check and the rest of it — being forced to walk down hallways on taped lines — has nothing — NUH-THING! — to do with educating kids, and more to do with an unhealthy desire to control as part of an insidious larger agenda.
If an administrator ordered me to check the socks and belts of my students, and punish the transgressors, I’d walk, and so would any other quality educator with a lick o’ sense.
Where did these charter founders learn this nonsense? Now the answer to this is also the key as to why kids have to walk on taped lines as they travel through the hallways, as well as the daily “sock-and-belt” check, and countless other peculiar and cult-like control mechanisms.
The article enlightens us:

Who runs and funds that group? Check out the disclaimer:
“The Walton Family Foundation provides funding to The 74 and to Building Excellent Schools.”
And there you have it folks. An offshoot of Walmart is behind all this.
And you know who else does a daily “sock-and-belt” check, this time for its employees, while also requiring matching polos and pants?
Walmart.
There you have it: the Walmart-ization of education, and its training the future workers into being compliant, controllable drones. (NOTE: THE 74 founder Campbell Brown sends her own children to Heschel, a private school THAT DOES THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF THE CONTROLLING CRAP THAT IS FOISTED ON “NO EXCUSES” CHARTER SCHOOL STUDENTS.)

Another way the Walton’s take from communities- law enforcement leaders in Tucson took a stand after they found the multitude of calls to Walmarts absorbed a disproportionate amount of their time. There are sites that tally crimes that occur at Walmarts- it’s shocking.
My “life and limb” are more valuable to me than low prices. I pity those who can’t say the same.

Now, at the same time there have been other times (within the last week) where the moderation thing comes up and doesn’t seem to be connected to any ranting at all. It seems to be random. Again, I can understand your wanting the discussion to be a certain way, but in the last month, I’d say that I’ve had an average of 3 times a week when my comments were “awaiting moderation”. Like I said, it seems quite random and arbitrary. But, then, again I know these sites don’t always work the way we want.

AP exams begin again today. Most parents don’t know how ridiculously low the passing bar is set (as low as 36% in some subjects!) nor the serious problems the AP curriculum causes for students. AP is a huge scam. They really started selling it to the schools in the early 00s. I took a course for Spanish AP one summer for a week (got three graduate credit hours, what a joke-at least the district paid for it). The instructor basically showed us prior tests, explained each section and how it was graded. We took practice tests, we practiced grading the test. Test, test, test, it was all about the test. What a joke and scam. I was already against my students taking the AP test as no college accepted any grade less than 4 or 5/5 and due to the listening and speaking portions no non-native speaker would get more than a 3. Complete waste of a student’s money. I only had one student over the years who did take the test on their own initiative who scored a five (the rest-not many students scored mainly 2s and a few 3s), but he already spoke at least two languages-Chinese and English as native tongues, so he had quite the background with which to attack the test and score high.

There are so many comments for Diane’s many blog posts, that I only search for comments where my name is mentioned and read those and reply when a reply is called for. I don’t read most of the comments that do not mention my name because it would take most if not all of my awake hours to keep up. If my name isn’t in a comment, the odds are I’ll never see that comment. And my name has to be spelled correct, Lloyd, or my spell check won’t find it.

I called for a meeting to discuss the situation and I scaled the case to the public school sistem and a nasty lady her name is Nicki Bisson she is the one who was mad at me because i told the corruption and how they hired to many crimes against my sons where the assisted at the Charter schooll the investigation is open but they are very mad at me because I don’t shut my mouth I blogged nation wide since 3 years and now the hear is on top of miami Dade school sistem Florida has to do something and people’s should Stand up because is not only that mg Daughter life is in risk the whole school and hundred students who is going to stop this ? Since I’m free to think what I want, for now, I still think that any religions that recruit people using fear and/or advocating violence against anyone that doesn’t belong are false prophets.
My mother was a JW for more than half of her life. She converted when I was 12.
And she lived in fear because of what they taught her. She was miserable and depressed because of what the JW’s taught her. She was so depressed, she couldn’t stop thinking of suicide but the JW’s told her if she took her life, she would go to hell, so she just suffered from the demons the JW’s fed.
She was told because she wasn’t one of the original founders/members, she’d never get into heaven but would be allowed to live on a ledge outside of the pearly gates.
She was told that if her family didn’t join JW with her, then she would never see us again because we were all headed to hell. No one else in the family joined the JWs and every time I saw my mother for the last decade of her life, she burst into tears because she believed she would never see her husband, my dad, or her three children (me included) after she died.
For two years (age 12 to 14) I joined the JW indoctrination sessions with my mother and listened to the brainwashing taking place that my mother was accepting hook, line, and sinker. I asked questions and never heard an acceptable answer. Because I was there for the first two years hearing the JW’s false logic, I know what she was taught to think by them.
Then one day I stood up and refused to listen to that fear my mother was being fed by a false prophet religion and turned my back on all religions because if you dig deep enough, you find the same virus ready to eat away your flesh.
I have studied the Bible and forgotten more than most people ever learned. I even have several different translations in English that I refer to sometimes for research purposes.
I have learned that any religion that teaches you how you must think is a misleading, false prophet.

Some people are entitled by their parent’s wealth and status and have never had to struggle in school, find a job, or compete in the market place. What’s there to be grateful for if you never had to serve int he armed forces of your country, work like everyone else, or settle down with one partner at a time?
Of course all the good things are there on the table for private consumption and enjoyment. Entitlement means simply that you never have to say thank you or excuse me.
There are others who have been raised in abject poverty and see nothing they have to be grateful for. They are wrong, of course and are no different than those who feel entitled because of wealth and privilege.

I have been spending an hour a day in this fruitless effort to delete spam. I asked WordPress if I could blacklist the worst offenders, and their “Happiness Engineers” said yes.
So I blacklisted any comment that included the words Nike, Adidas, Timberland, clock parts, and various sexual references. It didn’t work! I still get the same garbage every day!
As of today, I am no longer reviewing the spam box, I’m deleting it en masse.

I experienced what I experienced, and I see those JW recruiters every week when I go to the farmers market. They have a fold up table and sit in two fold up lawn chairs. They have a display set up with lots of JW literature. In fact, even if I visit that park on days when there is no farmers market, they are there no matter what day it is. They treat it like it is a job.
My mother was told she had to go out and talk to people about her JW religion. She was a shy introvert and it wasn’t easy for her but she did it. For decades, once a week, she did as she was told because she was told if she didn’t, she would go to hell or some other horrible place with another name.
She dressed up and drove downtown and then stood with other JW’s on a busy corner holding her handful of Watchtowers where people walking by could see them.
That is no different than someone wearing a sign advertising cheese pizza on sale for a pizza parlor down the street. Except this is selling JW’s version of god.
I’ve talked to so many JW’s knocking on my door over the decades that I lost count. I don’t answer the door anymore when I see them. They are always dressed up nice and are always in a small group. They also come with JW literature and the JW version of the Bible. I still see them on the street once or twice a month walking from house to house.
When my mother died at 89, I was at her house one-day packing stuff up to take to Goodwill, and the Kingdom Hall she attended called and said they wanted to send someone over and pick up the JW Bible and other literature they had given to her so someone else could pass it out.
I told them to hurry because I’d be locking up and leaving for my 5-hour drive home. They came and left. When they wanted to talk to me about JW, I was rude and told them I wasn’t interested. They took the JW material they came for and left. They didn’t get mad at me. I’m sure they were well trained.
