The U.S. Department of Education may pull this off its website.

Download it now. These are John King’s accountability regulations, based on FLORIDA accountability, including A-F ratings for every school!
The Senate voted to revoke them by 50-49.
Farewell and good riddance!
I think you are wise in saying that these need to be saved. Much has already vanished from the USDE website and I am not sure it can be captured by the Wayback machine.
I have saved this in a word document. Now we need a version of the final regulations on teacher evaluation. That is either in Title II or in the Higher Education Act.
Data Privacy is a big issue, present in multiple Departments. I think there will be efforts to lift regulatory constraints at the behest of the tech lobby.
Here is some of the discussion of the roll-back of the ESSA regulations, including references to those in Title II on teacher evaluation. https://www.congress.gov/congressional-record/2017/3/8/senate-section/article/s1666-2?r=30
Here is the final guidance for ESSA Title II. I recognize a lot of this… talk about teacher pipelines, even some of the visuals are straight from the New Teacher Project and from the Center for Reinventing Public Education. I had not looked at this souped up publication before. It is far more eleaborate and lengthy than the guidance for Title I.

Remember, the same people who brought Devos, revoked this regulation. Let this be a warning to us. Just saying.
Usually,
The Senate vote doesn’t mean that DeVos has any qualification for the job she bought
Does anyone know the vote breakdown? Did any Dems or independents vote to revoke?
All Dems supported John King-Jeb Bush accountability
They of course want to pave the way for requiring no accountability from schools using vouchers. Can we now expect that the more than a decade long year-end testing will stop?
Yes, but using SBAC/PARCC for accountability would do nothing to insure that voucher schools teach evolution or accurate history because they are agnostic about content. This repeal of King’s edict is all good: his accountability regime only insured that schools deform their curricula to teach test-prep and steer away from content toward Lumosity style brain training exercises. But, sadly, I doubt states will avail themselves of their new-found freedom to ditch these tests. Mind-forged manacles…
Ohio’s State School Board Chair submitted his resignation last week. He claimed A-F school grading, as one of his two identified accomplishments. The other was the imposition of “high standards”.
As a Kasich Republican appointee, he advocates policies that impoverish Ohioans but, illogically thinks that an unraveling society can be forced to meet whatever standards rich people can make up, accompanied by their unsupportable and detrimental measurements.
DeVos is speaking to school superintendents Monday.
I hope she tells them “government schools” are a “dead end”
That’s how she speaks about public schools when they’re not in the room. The least she could do is say the same thing when they’re sitting there.
The US Department of Education is opposed to US public schools, along with 3/4 of the US Congress and the President.
The majority of our national politicians oppose the public schools the vast majority of our children attend.
Ludicrous.
Which states have Congressmen who champion public schools?
Carol Burris is working on that at NPE Action.
NPE does outstanding work.
I saw the US Department of Education kicked off their annual spring “public schools suck” tour at the PTA convention this year.
They know PTA’s are in public schools, right?
Why would they give a speech promoting private school vouchers at a gathering of public school advocates? Nothing else to talk about?
DeVos will soon speak to National State School Boards assn
Relinquish, she says!
Perhaps the folks at DOE think PTA stands for Private Teaching Association.
“The King is gone. Long live the King”
The King is gone
And so’s his song
But Dems still dance
To John King’s rants
They’re dancing fools
‘Bout John King’s rules
And can’t be swayed
From plans he made
I can see the new school grading system:
Greatest ever
Really terrific
Very, very good
Very, very bad
Terrible disaster
Way down, dead, SAD!
And speaking of Herr Trumpus, here are grounds for impeachment. Robert Reich.

“Greatest ever

Total loser.
Yeah, I just imagined writing on a paper “Total loser”.
I think, once we’re out of this Trump mess, Michael Moore should do a documentary of the deformers that were in power. It’s fine if they still believe in all they did, the striking backdrop and constant counterpoint will be the stunning failure of their policies.
It will be a tearjerker.
At the taping of Moore’s Trumpland, he said the topic most requested for his next movie, is schools.
A few years back, I met Michael Moore at a Leonard Cohen concert in Brooklyn. I recognized him, introduced myself, and implored him to do a film about the corporate power grab of public schools. Moore was elected to the Flint, MI, school board when he was 18 or 19. How could he not care? He took my email but never contacted me.
Interesting. I perceived that Moore was unlikely to follow-through, too,
It’s puzzling, like Sanders’ avoidance of the topic.
For the Democratic Party (without CAP and Podesto), a fight against the oligarchs who are waging war on public schools would be a campaign promise that could lead to a win. I’m amazed the bi-partisan selling job for privatization, of America’s most important common good, has taken so long to take on the water that will sink it.
Thanks for keeping up the good fight. BTW, Laura Tyson (Shadow Cabinet) is a neoliberal. On the other hand, the Ravitch and Reich appointments are stellar.
I suspect that the reason Moore has been virtually silent about school deform is that it was a case where George W Bush’s policies were championed and actually put on steroids by Barack Obama.
Denial is a very powerful thing.
Also, he may be avoiding the subject as it is my understanding that his agent is Ari Emanuel, brother of the Chicago Mayor who closed 50 public schools. Could Moore interview Karen Lewis, tell truth to power & not have a conflict?
Probably not.
This is rather off-thread, but just had to comment (although one of you may have earlier, since Diane’s 2/18 post about Jason Chaffetz’s Utah Town Hall), because I just saw this on (I think it was a rerun—but recent, “cause Allison Williams was on to plug the movie “Get Out”–which, BTW, is brilliant & a must-see!) The Late Show w/Seth Meyers–a clip was run of the Town Hall (it was dated 2/9)–a retired teacher who I.D.’ed herself as such
gave a very clever commentary. Has anyone else seen this? &–if someone can find the clip & a link, please post it, because it, too, is a must-see–it would be great if, at future such town halls, a retired teacher would stand up & make the same comments at each one! (Sorta like a “mic check.”)
